Title: Sharp Famicom Twin
Post by: targetrasp on May 22, 2021, 08:37:07 PM
I've had chances to pick up these before but just didn't have a desire. Now theyve rose in price a little and the disks look difficult to find. Anyone have any experience with the Sharp famicom twin specifically or a famicom disk system at all?

I have heard of it. Read about it and saw videos. I think it was the only licensed Nintendo console that was not made by Nintendo. It is a collector's item. The disk system for the Famicom was Japan only. But I think the games were finally put on cartridges. Seemingly there was a big difference in the audio quality on the carts, music was better on the disks. I think the Sharp Famicom was in limited quantities.

Every played any of the disk games, whether it be on the twin or just the disk system?

No. I have never seen one. I have never been anywhere that would have anything close to something like that. The town I live in just barely has video games.  :)) There have been occasions in my early years of gaming that I had to drive out of state just to purchase something that was gaming related.

I can say... I don't ever remember this coming up.  I am pretty sure I never saw one come across the store many years.  I had everything, including the Nintendo 64DD (Disk Drive).

Sounds like we need a bit more information, @targetrasp  ;D  Maybe additional topics!

@BLUEVOODU this console was able to play both the famicom discs and the carts.

@retro junkie interesting... I've never seen that system before.

So all of the games were compatible?

Nintendo and sharp teamed up at least twice that I'm aware of, once for the game television and once for the sharp famicom twin. Well, i think last year they were working together to assemble switches but those weren't new consoles...

@targetrasp For Whatever reason, I am not familiar with either of those systems.  Game Television?  I felt like I once knew most of gaming.   I just googled it... looks like we need a Game Television topic at some point.
