General Discussion / Re: Cobra Kai Season 6

Loved it despite the cheesy teenie drama.

I'm thrilled they're still expanding upon the Karate Kid universe (odd typing that out loud, guess anything can be made into a universe) - Karate Kid Legends was a fun watch as well.

Let me know how JellyFin works out for you. I've been looking for a similar solution and would love to hear about it.

I'll have to look and see if I finally ended up with it.

Advance Wars did get a lot of play but my kids didn't get into it so as far as playtime wise something Mario won out.

It's number one on most peoples list, I just found it at the wrong time.

it's impossible if you play it like a normal tactics game. Somehow they've managed to incorporate run and gun into tactics, a mix I didn't ask for and haven't had much success with.

Loaded question - there's a lot

Sirius XM - I usually bounce between Liquid Metal, Octane, Turbo, Lithium, and to a lesser extent Ozzy's boneyard, Classis Rewind and Classic Vinyl.

Stand outs - the resurgence in NUmetal (not sure how I feel about that label) had me dust off stuff like Korn, Static X, Adema, etc. as well as Limp Bizkit. newer bands like Starset, Sleep Token, Spiritbox, DED

Metal wise I still really like Lamb of God and play them often and have recently been turned on to Slaughter to Prevail.

Christmas gets me nostalgic so a lot of 80s hair bands as well as the synthy poppy stuff gets mixed in, especially during retro gaming sessions.

And I'm almost a year late but I just found this outlaw country / rock banger by Dorothy called Tombstone town... its got Slash on guitar, kinda awesome.

When I got into comics in the early 90s the Silver Surfer was one of the titles I collected heavily. I've got most of the first two runs of it (3 if you count the one shot that happened in the late 80s), so Norrin is the Surfer I grew up with. The Shalla surfer happened in 2000 and by then I'd moved on from comics. I collected FF as well and have a lot of the first run stuff, and the call backs were appreciated. Liberties were taken (which is fine) and the movie seemed to cram things in from the first five years or so of the comic run.

What it'd take to blow me - pick a direction - things seemed a little scattered, fix Galactus's scale - hard to elaborate, it just felt off, and OG Silver Surfer.

all said, it's probably my favorite FF movie so far, and they can absolutely improve things with a hyper focused Dr. Doom arc. FF4 v Dr. Doom or a Dr. Doom origin. I fear they'll instead jump the shark and the FF movies will yet again be shelved.

It went back up a day or two later, and is currently cheap again, don't miss out!

I bought two of these on black Friday two years ago, one for the fam one for the brother's fam. It was same price then as well. Solid Sonic experience for anyone looking for that sort of thing.

I've not paid attention to Kemco in generations, and really my favorites (North v South and Rescue - the embassy mission) were developed by Infogramers.

I didn't know they made RPGs, may have to look into this further.

I did get to check it out and wasn't let down, just not blown away either.

I love the world they created for this movie, it was reminiscent of the 60s comics, a little sci fi, and yet modern feeling. Thing's representation was truer to the comics than in any previous movie or cartoon. The homage to Fantastic Four 1 comic cover was a nice touch as well.

The movie gets a B from me. Norrin Radd, nuff said.

Hard to tell, but probably something with Mario in the title

Wasn't one of the Metroid releases for the switch difficult to get, at least maybe at first? I vaguely remember not preordering a Metroid, strolling into a best buy, then a gamestop, then a walmart looking for it, only to be disappointed. Now I can't even remember which Metroid it was and if I ever wound up with it.

I'd be slightly afraid of that, on the other hand, a holiday release should have plenty, unless its a Halo themed Xbox...

@CreepinDeth

I think you're on to something. Online gaming isn't nearly as fun as I once found it to be. For me, It's the combination of sweats and trolls that's the turn off. At my age video games are something I do in my ever-shrinking leisure time to turn the noise from the adult world off. It's my choice of escapism. I'll still play a sports game or coop something with some friends but its typically private to keep the rando riff raff out.

at this point its stuck in the back log. Its likely I wont get to a fraction of what I'm holding on to.

Side scroller beat em ups!

These started hard in the 80s and really peaked in the 90s. I could ramble off dozens of titles I played through on the NES, SNES, Genny, and in the arcade. Back then it was my favorite genre. Technology got better, and devs shifted towards making 3d games and the genre just stalled out. Occasionally games like Viewtiful Joe showed up as a reminder of their glory days but going back just didn't hit the same.

There's been a small resurgence with some decent game (Streets of Rage 4 comes to mind) and some good compilations but I just don't get the mileage out of them I used to.

WOW, it's been five year since 3d all stars was released, where's the time gone. Just put this together after griping about the poor showing for the 40th anniversary realizing this came on the 35th anniversary

General Discussion / Re: Game Subscriptions
November 01, 2025, 04:15:23 PM
So far I've been getting my monies worth out of GamePass. I meet up with some people 2 - 3 fridays a month and there's usually something on there we all play. Recently its saved me from buying The Outer Worlds 2 (loved the first one, would have bought this game otherwise) and Monster Train 2. There's at least a new game a month I would have purchased and probably not played that game pass has saved me from.

I build my PCs with tons of disk space so I opt for the PC version of gamepass. Everything seems to work without issue outside of some of the EA offerings and of course when theres a game preview (Smite 2).

They did just increase the price, but still not horrible unless you've got ultimate then it's a bit much.

waiting for it to hit Disney +. Marvel's first family has never been done well outside of comics, The jessica alba movies were OK, the other one was OK, I'm sure this one will be OK too. Tired of going to movies for OK.

General Discussion / Re: 40 years of Super Mario Bros
October 21, 2025, 09:34:12 PM
I got super Mario Bros with the NES in 1986 or 87, for a birthday or Christmas. I was 5 or 6 years old. I've played every main line SMB game as they've come out and a ton of the offshoots; always favorites at time of release. Top 10 franchise in my opinion. Very likely my gateway drug into video games, and why I'm still a junkie.

Arcade / Re: What was your 1st Arcade Experience?
October 08, 2025, 11:46:28 PM
Showbiz Pizza was my first and most favorite arcade experience. Mid 80's birthday paradise. Ball pits, bubble hockey, air hockey, skee ball, and all the Ms. Pacman, Qbert, Pole Position, etc. you could play. The animatronics were an afterthought, just something you got to watch while scarfing down pizza too quick so you could get back at running around like a crazy person playing everything.

Pinball was prevalent as well and I probably enjoyed it a little more than most my age. It was always cool when your favorite movie was made into a machine but Pinbot stood out over most others.

There was also the Williams Slugfest. It was a pinball like machine set up like a baseball field. It was a quarter an inning and it pitched a pinball and where you hit it determined the results of that at bat. The coolest part was when it was released it dispensed baseball cards. later they were converted to dispensing arcade tickets, but the freaking baseball cards were the draw.

Arcade / Re: Is Golden Tee still a thing?

I played Golden Tee heavily from the time PBR was $1.00 until it was $3.00, so early 2000's maybe? Lots of fun with friends and beers. Arcade 1up has several different versions for the low low price of 500 bucks. There are new machines in bars and arcades that have huge screens and cup holders. It's still going strong

I couldn't wait for a physical release and bought it on Steam when it came out. I was excited for it but wound up lukewarm on the game. It 100% didn't get the time it deserved but I couldn't get good at the run and gun melded into a tactics game and lost interest before I figured it out. I also didn't appreciate the roguelike aspect of the game despite generally liking roguelike games.

This game would absolutely hit different if I was looking for what it offered. It's a fresh take on a tactics game incorporating the Metal Slug essence unexpectedly well.

I don't recall enjoying this game.

I found it at a time where I'd just trudged through Shining Force 3, Dragon Force, Disgaea 2, and tactics ogre so in fairness I may have just been burned out on the genre.

People who enjoy tactics games have raved about it and IGN usually has it at the top of its lists so it's probably a great game and I'm sure I'll get around to playing it one day, although now I really want to break out Shinning Force.

I've really dialed back the spending on game nostalgia, but this is a must have for me. It'll likely get encased in acrylic and never be used but it'll look pretty on a shelf.

how many lego games does that bring you up to?

I get your point but why wouldn't Nintendo come out and say that? If they straight out blamed tariffs or just raised their prices in the US I'd wholly agree. With half the US blaming tariffs for everything, Nintendo could say tariff and would get no push back what so ever. Why be coy only citing market conditions? Even if it was BS it'd be completely believable. Why lump in Canada if it's US Tariffs that's causing the spike?

I've not seen Nintendo come out and say it, I've only seen sites like CNBC and Gamespot, and of course the youtubers citing said sites.
