It was not really that hard for me to pick up on the Mac OS, I am thinking it is because I went from Linux to the Mac OS. There was a lot of things in the Mac OS that I felt at home with. It might have been the Distro that I was using at the time. I like the Mac OS and I like the hardware. They feel short lived due to the lifespan of the OS, but I guess that would be true for Windows hardware too. I just can't keep purchasing their hardware every cycle. And I get it. A place like Apple builds their business model around selling new hardware.
The thing about these old Mac Book Pros is that they are a solid, tough, rugged, reliable computer if you get a good one. The bad is that technology changes so fast that it leaves a good thing behind eating dust. As long as you are settled, like I am, and don't need anything more powerful to run some new program, why toss and change? Security is really the only issue if you are at all on the net. (I am sure a lot of people use phones for what I do, banking, bill pay, etc.)
I am so glad that Linux is an option for this Mac Book. I am not sure but I think blue tooth is a little glitchy, if I remember, I just don't use it. That is the only thing I found an issue using MX Linux. I know using Sonoma on my Mac Mini I can't use blue tooth at all, very buggy. I can't use my Apple touch pad or the Apple keyboard.
As long as they keep making Linux for old hardware I will keep using it. It is the only thing that lasts.

General Discussion / Captain America: Brave New Wor...
Last post by BLUEVOODU - March 29, 2025, 09:46:26 PM
The next in the Marvel series was released earlier this year.  Captain America: Brave New World was the next installment of not only Captain America... but also Marvel.

This movie is well done - in my opinion.  It somewhat follows after Captain America and the Winter Soldier.   Ross is now played by Harrison Ford.. and appears to be trying to change the way he's been in the past.   It seems he's trying to make things right.

Obviously (from trailers) ... you know the Red Hulk is involved.  Anthony Mackie is now Captain America (as you know from Captain America and the Winter Solider).  There are other comments and tie-ins from some of the older movies like The Hulk from 2008.

This is a well done Movie - in my opinion.   Has anyone else checked it out?  What do you think?

Thoughts, Comments... post it up!

General Discussion / Picard - Is An Awesome Series
Last post by BLUEVOODU - March 29, 2025, 09:14:24 PM
Late to the party?  Sure.  We got a really good deal on the complete series of Picard Blu-Ray!

The series is really really good.  Ratings were not favorable for the 1st 2 seasons.  Honestly... I really liked them.  Outside a couple oddities, I don't see what the fuss was.  The 3rd season is so far really awesome as well.

We had an older Topic a few years back:
Star Trek Picard - is it good?
There were a couple good comments at the time.

How many have seen this?  Have you gone back and re-watched?

Thoughts? Comments?  Post it up!!

I feel a little crazy... I know we are talking about your machine here in another post, but I thought I replied to this thread as well  ???

$60 is a pretty good steal.  I was not fond of MacBooks up until the last 3 months.  More to come from that on a separate topic.  They take a bit to get used to coming off Windows and Linux... but I could say the same about Linux coming off of Windows.  It's just something to get used to... and it's cool to have MacOS, Windows whatever and several Linux variants that I'm comfortable now using as a daily driver.   NO LIMITATIONS lol  ;D

Since your OS expired... it might be time to look at Linux if you cannot get a newer OS with current security upgrades.  It sucks to get to that point... especially on the Apply Ecosphere where the devices can last longer (IMO).   I'm becoming a little more fond of Apply MacOS and the Ecosphere of iPhone and iPad ... especially combined.

I do have a few Windows machines (my gaming PC and a couple of laptops) due to work but I haven't really needed to make those machines my daily driver. There is the odd thing here and there. For example, just today I had to format a USB stick to NTFS because I wanted to transfer some Xbox screenshots. It's nuts that Microsoft requires NTFS just to move some files around but it's required for the console to see it.

@CreepinDeth - yeah.. that's why I was asking if @retro junkie was using it as much as you LOL.  ;D

I am working on making a MacOS topic... there are some really cool things about MacOS. Especially once you get to the integrations between your phone and iPad if you have one.  Obviously, there are additional limitations.  The sound is amazing on these new guys... more to come.

Quote from: retro junkie on March 26, 2025, 11:31:59 PMi am presently using my Macbook Pro mid 2012 to type this. It is running MX Linux based on DEBIAN. I use it daily. I also use my chromebook daily. I have a Mac Mini late 2012 running Sanoma 14.7.4 using Opencore-Patcher on an SSD with 16 gig ram. That is my desktop. I am seriously thinking about switching it over to Linux when the updates run its course on Sanoma. But that is still undecided.

Let us know how that goes... that is pretty interesting.

I need to setup a new linux daily driver as well... I have an old small form factor desktop that I'm going to create a Rocky Linux Image machine.  Then I'm going to use that to create a Rocky image to run as my daily driver.  I'll create a new topic on that as well.

I am working on a tech idea website... more information to come.  Technically I've had the name for a LONG time.  I've been trying to start this idea since before we did World9-3 podcasts... IE 2007.  Just can never seem to get a good entry point.  Life changes lately have me accelerating some of this.  We may also start the podcasts back up under the CDG name.  Totally off topic here, but some of these topics reminded me
