This game is still listed and price still around $38.  Been watching for it to go on sale, but still a no go.

@retro junkie @targetrasp might this one be on your list as well?

General Discussion / Game Subscriptions
August 27, 2025, 07:04:29 PM
There seem to be several offerings for gaming subscriptions now.  You have the Xbox game Pass, Playstation Network (Extra and above) and several others.

Have you bought into these?   I personally have not.  I tend to buy games I want, they tend to be physical games... but I do utilize services like Steam, Blizzard and others were the games are not really physical anymore.  If you have bought into them, why have you and are they worth it to you?  If you do not, why are you holding out?

Post It up!

I had a weird thing happen with my Vita today.  I was switching between games and was trying to set the automatic upload for game data.  The screen wouldn't allow me to select certain things... it's like the touchscreen wasn't responding and was jumping everywhere. The touch controls on the back of the system were also causing the game menus in the main screen to jump everywhere.   This evolved further where I couldn't get out of the menus or select anything... and the menus just kept jumping around.

I couldn't power off the system because I couldn't select the power off button lol  ???   I corrected this by pressing power and the system screen turned off.  I was then miraculously able to hold the power where it gave me the power off button again where it allowed me to power off (screen was still acting funny).  Once the console rebooted, everything was right.

Has any one else experienced this?

Hey @retro junkie  --> high five on an amazing post!  Low Five on me not posting in this post forever.

This is a pretty cool looking system.  Seriously... where do you find this stuff? lol  ;D

Ok... the screen really looks better than the Nomad?  What about control feels compared to the Nomad?  My guess is that it is thinner and battery last longer than the Nomad for sure.  Thoughts on the sound compared to Nomad (I read the part about 1 speaker and headphones are a must)?

Awesome - it will be cool to see your follow-up!

lol AliExpress gives me nightmares.  It feels like the dark alley you just need to stay away from at all costs.   You know that sinking and bad feeling you got standing in a parking lot at night??  That's AliExpress LOL.   It might not be that bad... but... it gives me pause.

Necro bumping this post.   @retro junkie @targetrasp - have you guys played or done anything else with your evercade recently?

Quote from: retro junkie on July 18, 2025, 12:20:58 PMI guess I consider this Mario's black-eye.  :))

lol.. Mario's black-eye?

Honestly, I had a hard time getting into it at 1st. I bought it pretty close to release if not on release.  I ended up liking and enjoying the game but not at 1st.  I remember the water effects were really cool and were a draw to this game.  The music was pretty rememberable as well.

Necro bumping @retro junkie - that's a pretty large difference in distance.  I wonder why they did that.

Also crazy... Blockbuster had a rental only release that was not available anywhere else.  I cannot recall any other titles like this.  It's also crazy the amount of pull Blockbuster had to make this a reality lol.  But... why would they change the game from the Japanese version.  Outside translations, that would take other code changes as well.
#9
lol @retro junkie but... this other phone is foldable!  Think about all the awesome stuff you could do with it!

I get what you mean.  I use mine for a lot of note taking and other things as well... including review documents and activities that go along with that.  This would be pretty handy... however, $2000 is extremely salty.  This is where I probably won't buy in because there are so many other uses for that money.

This game still seems to be on track for September 30, 2025 release.   Pumped for it to be released on physical media.   Checking in, is anyone else excited for this game?
#11
Yeah... many true points there.   If you're keeping up on your updates, and the updates for that distro are current and supported, you should be OK security wise.

checking in - How has your 2012 MacBook Pro been running?

Nice!  Rocky has probably become my favorite distribution at this point.   I gravitated more towards the Fedora based distros for some reason... not really sure why.  They just felt more usable to me... obviously, that's not the case.  It's also odd because I started with Ubuntu (outside the other enterprise IBM AIX and other Unix / Linux variants).  I heavily went to CentOS and Amazon Linux in the cloud.  Rocky feels pretty good.

Alright.  I think I'm going to set 8pm.   If there are no objections, hopefully members can make it.  Please post up your thoughts

I made more progress on trophies for Playstation Vita Dariusburst Chronicle Saviours

I also made some progress on Cup Head ... towards the platinum trophy.  This game is a bit tough

Someone here has to be interested (or not) in this movie lol.  @CreepinDeth what about you?

@mastermario @SpartanEvolved  --> I believe you guys saw it
#16
@targetrasp I think that is 12 Platinum trophies for Lego games.    :great:   I think I have 16-17 Platinum trophies in total now.

Honestly, we have many more to go at this point... might be another 10-12.
#17
I agree with @CreepinDeth as well.  I think the only upside to the game key card is that you can sell them... and they transfer.  Whereas, you cannot sell the digital games (technically).  However, they will use up more system storage... a benefit of still having physical games --> Less internal storage is used.

The hope is that they stop the game key cards eventually.  There is a rumor that different sized carts are going to be available in the near future (one of the reasons many companies went to game key cards) instead of all carts being 1 size.

Arcade / Re: Do you still Arcade?
August 21, 2025, 05:25:12 PM
@retro junkie man... I miss the Jaguar a bit.  Tempest 2000 is one heck of a fun game on the Jaguar too.  I cannot say I ever saw or heard of an arcade version.  Pretty sure that's a negative.  There was an MS-DOS listed version though LOL:

https://forums.atariage.com/topic/365146-tempest-2000-dos-version/

You know... I wish you said you were going to use Rocky Linux lol.   DO EEEETTT!  :great:  :happydance:

Maybe create a post on your adventures... that would be cool to track!  At least I'm interested in how it all goes lol  ;D

Alrighty then... Another one down!   This time, it was Lego DC Super-Villains for the PS4 with a 100% Complete Platinum Trophy!

I use the term "glitch" in many capacities for video games... ahem @SpartanEvolved ... However, without a doubt, this is the glitchiest Lego game to date that I have played.  Most Lego games are not perfect and have issues here and there with operations not working totally right. They're still fun and work well for the most part.

From the start of playing this game, we had to reset, stop and start and accept losing saves due to game crashes over a ton of sessions. The other pieces to mention is, the races are more painful in this game compared to other Lego games.  By painful, they're just hard to complete sometimes and mechanics don't always work right with the vehicle required to finish the race.

Overall, it's a fun game, great puzzles, really good music, cool levels and fun challenges.

Thoughts?  Comments?  Questions?  Post it up!

I'm going to resurrect this thread.

I found Defense Grid 2 to be a pretty good game on the Deck.  It is compatible and works well.

@CreepinDeth - I need to check out OlliOlli.   I noticed Vampire Survivors has a bundle with Contra Operation Galuga:

^ I'm watching for a sale

Quote from: CreepinDeth on August 10, 2025, 05:22:28 PMI'm not really in the apple ecosystem, so a lot of those features don't really do much for me. I'm also thinking about getting one of the latest Mac Minis instead of a Macbook Pro. The only thing I don't like is that you aren't really supposed to upgrade the internal components so you have to jump through some hoops to update some of them.

@BLUEVOODU Do you prefer doing your work on a MB Pro vs. the other machines you've used?

This is a loaded question.  Since this has been my daily driver over the last 6 months now, I am somewhat preferring it.  Like @retro junkie mentioned, being able to seamlessly manage messages and files super easily (and not in the Google space) between Mac, iPhone and iPad... it's awesome.  You can pick up and run on any device.

My preference for studying right now is on the iPad Pro with Apple Pencil.  For example, if I'm going over studies, I can write notes in notes, or super easily write on a pdf (notes, solve problems, highlight...etc).

There are really frickin cool integrations with QuickTime on the MacBook Pro, connecting and sharing the iPad, and then presenting on your MacBook and utilizing your iPad for Sharing additional notes and drawn architecture (for example) that gets shared in your screen share.  I'll try to do a write-up on this at some point.  I was doing a presentation with a contact from AWS and saw them doing this.  I stole it from them LOL.  Very clever, my contact is.

If Mac got the gaming side down... I probably would be partial to Mac.  That's not happening any time soon... so, I might have to vote Windows.  I'm torn. The other thing is, if you're used to Linux and Windows Copy / Paste, there is a bit of adjusting to a MacBook lol.

If you want amazing sound on a laptop, the MacBook Pro blows anything and everything laptop away that I've ever heard.  It's shockingly good - and this is from someone that loves audio.

That's cool @CreepinDeth KDE is alright.   I mean, it's cool for gaming and all.  It's not my favorite but I like it and understand why others like it.

Installing stuff... especially Mac and Linux, I'm using the command line and other utilities a lot.  I'm just used to it from an enterprise perspective.   I got away from that a bit with the MacBook Pro... but with Linux, it's just too easy and convenient.  The same goes for Windows... once you powershell and cli... you continue to do a lot that way (not necessarily install software though).

Interesting KDE is making their own distro....  I will have to keep an eye on that.

Arcade / Re: Who Still Owns an Arcade Cabinet Today?
August 18, 2025, 02:34:56 PM
Quote from: targetrasp on July 20, 2025, 10:03:52 AMI wish. My one slotter got gone years ago. I miss it but it didn't get used much what seems like a week after I got it. I likely only miss it because it and all the MVS carts I had are worth 10x what I paid for it / sold it for.
LOL... so you only like it now for the potential value it could've been now?

I just haven't played mine for years.  I am potentially looking to sell it. However, that's also hard due to nostalgic value.  Would I miss it?  Maybe... it just takes up room right now.

At this one laser tag place, they have a cool Minecraft Dungeons Arcade machine.  It's pretty cool... obviously if you like Minecraft Dungeons.  That's the Diablo 2 style Minecraft game.  They did a good job with it.

Quote from: mastermario on July 17, 2025, 08:49:20 PMI love barcades. Always a great time! Indy has a couple of good ones and there are a few here in DFW as well as the Cidercade in Houston which is the best (they specialize in cider beers).

Nice!  Fort Wayne has Crazy Pins and a few, Ultrazone, Putt Putt (not sure how good it is anymore) and a few others. There's definitely room for a barcade.

Quote from: retro junkie on July 18, 2025, 10:47:10 AMThere are no arcades where I live. If there was I would visit them occasionally, especially if they had some old friends, like centipede, tempest, etc. And those old shoot'em ups.......Defender................yeah.......nice.................
What about Tempest 2000??

Quote from: targetrasp on July 26, 2025, 03:15:06 PMWe've got a barcade and pinball museum in Asheville that's fairly decent but I usually steer clear of downtown so I'm not there much.

When I go visit my brother in Myrtle Beach I usually take the kids to a few of the arcades scattered out there. The four player beat-em-ups, the racing ones, and the light gun games were always favorites.

I can only imagine why you don't want to go down town, @targetrasp lol.  Whatever could it be?
Just think, we could've be beachin it up right now.  Arcadin on the beach?

@CreepinDeth - if you try KDE, let me know your thoughts.   I was fine with Gnome and what not.  KDE is fine, just not a favorite.  It looks alright though.  Mate is an older desktop that has a decent amount of capability.  Many others like Gnome and KDE better though.

For Gnome, what got in the way?  There really are nuances that take a bit to get used to with all of them.

Did you use the CLI at all?

Also - Woot woot for the Necrobump   :great:

I've seen several others, but they seem to get a large amount of backlash if they do state it.

In this case, I'm not sure... other than, it's extremely odd for a company to increase the cost of the outgoing product.   Again, it could be something I've not seen before AND happened... I just don't remember it happening.   If this is the case, it very well could be due to Tariffs and that's it.

I will have to look at it, but it seems that Xbox might have blamed price increases on tariffs... but I believe that's for games.

General Discussion / Fantastic Four: First Steps
August 18, 2025, 01:34:54 PM
I missed this topic 2-3 couple weeks back.  We ended up watching Fantastic Four: first Steps, Marvel's newest edition to the line-up.  There was 2 after credit scenes as well that were worth watching.  Personally, we all loved the movie and thought it was great.   We didn't watch many of the reviews ahead of time as we wanted to stay as neutral as possible.

Who has seen this movie? What are your thoughts?  Are you excited to see this movie if you haven't already?

Post it up!
