General Discussion / Re: Lost in Space on Netflix

Since Sci-Fi stopped Dark Matter I've really been looking for something to fill that Sci-Fi void. This couldn't have come at a better time. I'll probably finish the season before the weekend ends

Phenomenal

Pureists will be pissed. Liberties have been taken with the origin story and the major players. Show runners have definately taken the social climate into consideration in casting and writers have pandered to the social justice warriors in how race and gender (i'm only 3 episodes in so i can't speark for sexuality yet) are represented. The social justice appeasement doesn't feel shoe-horned in so it seems more natural than in other recent sci-fi oriented movies and television. The new characters have tons more depth than the characters in the last two LIS iterations... although I will miss Heather Graham as Judy Robinson! Molly Parker makes a fantastic Maureen.

I started watching LIS really late, and couldn't stop watching, I had to force myself to go to bed at 430am. I'm hooked, I can't wait to get back to watching.

The only thing I can really remember from working with databases is the sp_help script!

@BLUEVOODU

HAHA my SQL meaning my SQL abilities... not MySQL!!!

I didn't realize the confusion I would create by that choice of wording this morning, but it's a pretty funny play on words...

General Discussion / Re: Favorite 80's Toy / Cartoon
April 13, 2018, 07:50:55 AM
The arcade was glorious in the 80's! Every hotel, campground, and even gas station had some cabinet. The local pizza huts had cocktail cabinets, one had some iteration of pac man and the other had breakout or alleyway.

GI Joe was my favorite. I still pick up figures when I see them in the wild and actually just found a GI Joe Monopoly game.

Mask, Thundercats, Transformers, HeMan, SilverHawks, and Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors were some of my most favorite toon / toy combos. The TNMT cartoon was fantastic as well, but I never really bought into the toys. By 1989 when they came out I was already 8 and more interested in video games and sports. I think I may have ended up with one of the original ralphs somehow.

Sadly, I missed most of the early Star Wars toys when they were new. I did find some used at flea markets and yard sales but never any to amount to anything. I vaguely remember a Roses having Jabba's palace on clearance for 5 - 10 dollars and I BEGGED for it, but my please fell on the deaf ears of my parents.

didn't I just see banjo kazooe and spyro collections coming out in the near future?

Would Idea number 2 be in the form of an access database file and would idea number 2 be available for download and be manipulated to become a personal inventory....

I've been meaning to get around to building a database for years now but sadly, i continue to find more pressing things to do and have had to stick with a poorly formatted spreadsheet.

OR and this would be a huge undertaking ...

An online database for members to catalog their collection in. Using the repository you're talking about building in the future, members would search for the game, click add it to my list, then fill out things like condition, price paid, date aquired, etc. I've seen it done with comic books and loved the idea. My sql is not strong enough to pull it off but I'd help however I could, even with just the original idea!

How do you like it? It didn't seem to appeal to me as much as the other comic / movie lego games.

I just added some older stuff to my collection:

halo
gta san andreas
destroy all humans
call of duty 3
fable
fable 3
gta 3
gta vice city
Morrowind
Oblivion
Jade Empire
metal gear sold 2
various skylanders figures

I missed this totally... what is a gaming backlog tracker?

General Discussion / Favorite 80's Toy / Cartoon
April 11, 2018, 12:06:33 AM
I'm such a nostalgia freak its ridiculous. This talk around a Hasbro cinematic universe has really gotten my hopes up, only to have them continually crushed, put on hold, and crushed again.

I has ignited tons of people like me as well as hardcore toy collectors, buying up 80's toys for insane prices on eBay. I've been watching auctions, reading fan pages and online articles and frequenting thrift stores and yard sales as often as possible just to get back some of that old 80's magic.

I would imagine a large part of the CDG group grew up in the 80's, not only living the video game resurgence but also the last great age of toys and Saturday morning cartoons of said toys.

After spending an hour looking at M.A.S.K. toys on eBay I was really curious about what toy / cartoon line does everyone else remember fondly?

I got through the Call of Duty WW2 Campaign. Very satisfying, but a little too easy on regular. Only one part took more than a try or two. I mist tons of mementos and heroic acts but I feel like they'd be easy to get on regular if someone was so inclined. I was rushing through because my son was trying to finish first.

He shot the moon with the original  trilogy.

It happens to a lot of my favorites. tarantino, kevin smith, arnofosky, Ritchie - all had fabulous movies and then after about the third they just fell off. Tarantino may have more than three, and I'll admit to liking all of Kevin Smiths flicks but it's hard to name more than three good ones. Heck, look at Guy Ritchie, outside of Snatch and Lock Stock and two Smoking Barrels you've gotta dig deep.... Sherlock Holmes?!

Granted none of those have had a fraction of the success Lucas has but it seems like a pattern. Think Linkin Park...

wow, I thought people not liking Star Wars was a myth...

I'd love to play halo 2 multiplayer again

I finished a few more COD WW2 levels today. I'm up to The Battle of the Bulge.

General Discussion / Re: Work the next couple days
April 06, 2018, 08:33:50 PM
My city is so low tech when I was in college here for Computer Science my advisor said staying in town was insane. Tech jobs here were 6 week certificate course type of jobs.

It's changed a little but not much. There's a huge demand for digital marketing / social media managers but analysis, design, architecture, is all farmed out from bigger cities. There's no shortage of "web designers" (Wix designers) though, and somehow they're getting tons of work!?

I honestly can't tell you how much I've learned just watching others screw up. I don't have a tech job, I work for a management company that owns hotels and invests in hospitality based properties. I've turned into their tech department, but it's not my full time gig! There's still not enough money in technology.

no, at the time there was still just you, me, and retro on this, and three votes...
#1105
I've completely abandoned it. I'd love this game if any of my friends played it. I don't want to jump in with randos and play anything requiring teamwork.
#1106
Not falling for it. cardboard is for shipping
#1107
@BLUEVOODU I was wrong about MSI, it was DFI that I hated. after that I treated all the 3 letter boards as lepers.
#1108
My local target has lego dimensions on sale for under 20.00 for ps4 and xbone, 15ish for 360 and ps3.

I'll guarantee any lego fan would get $20.00 use out of the set even if its just putting the portal together.

I love board games. Monopoly is an all time favorite and I've tried to get every video game edition of it I can. I've been meaning to pick up the Nintendo version for a while now. The monopoly gamer edition is awesome, and I've got the Mario kart gamer edition but haven't managed to play yet. Finding a group of adults with enough time to sit down and play a board game is difficult
