General Discussion / Fantastic Four: First Steps
August 18, 2025, 01:34:54 PM
I missed this topic 2-3 couple weeks back.  We ended up watching Fantastic Four: first Steps, Marvel's newest edition to the line-up.  There was 2 after credit scenes as well that were worth watching.  Personally, we all loved the movie and thought it was great.   We didn't watch many of the reviews ahead of time as we wanted to stay as neutral as possible.

Who has seen this movie? What are your thoughts?  Are you excited to see this movie if you haven't already?

Post it up!

I hear you.. nothing does last forever.  It's a good case for archiving and backing up.  Most companies and others don't care about this... in-so-much that they could profit from it.  Otherwise, they got their monies... so ... why would they care outside those that still have true care in them about consumers?

Has anyone else seen this movie besides @SpartanEvolved and I?

@mastermario - I thought you might have saw it... what are your thoughts?

@targetrasp It has to be somewhat from Tariffs.   I think Nintendo also naturally went after price increases. However, I can't recall a time when the older systems going out also raised in price.  It MIGHT have happened... I just cannot recall a time when this happened.

Great review @retro junkie - hats off to your reviews.  They are awesome.

I bet Nintendo is happy with this product... though doubt they can do anything about it.  This looks like a cool device.  I am wondering how long it will hold up in the future.  It would be cool if you provided an update on how it's going some time in the future.

My concern would be with the controls.  However, you addressed that... as well as the screen.  You're also braver than I in terms of ordering from AliExpress.  I know others that have ordered from there... I just don't totally trust the site.

@CreepinDeth - my OS perspective is this:

If you buy a new MacBook Pro... live with the MacOS for awhile before changing it if you're not super opinionated. Again, I've used several variants of Linux, Windows (pretty much every dos, windows variant and server os since the late 80s / early 90s)... and now the MacOS.

I think it works very well once you figure out the shortcuts and get everything properly setup.  It is quick and snappy and I personally believe it uses memory better... especially for office / home office tasks (browsing, resumes, writing, documentation, etc etc).

I love the integration with iPhone and iPad. That's something that would be lost with a different OS... and I was blown away by the audio on the MacBook Pro.

I have not used the MacBook Air enough for a comparison. If I was in your situation, still had my MacBook Air and bought a MacBook Pro, I would get everything setup on the pro and then try difference OS's on the air.

Let me know if you want more information.  I'm pretty impressed.  Gaming is a bit limited, but that' can also be the same on Linux as well. For example, I can play many blizzard games such as StarCraft and Starcraft 2, but Diablo 2 Rwsurrected and 4 isn't supported... but Diablo 3 is.

Not sure if everyone knows.  If you're planning to buy a Nintendo Switch 1, do it quickly or buy a Switch 2.  The Switch 2 is not increasing in price.  Prices are supposed to increase today.

Switch Lite --> $200 to $230
Regular Switch --> $300 to $340
Switch OLED --> $350 to $400

@CreepinDeth Great find and the clip worked great at the timestamp.  Dangit... I need to check all my games now.  That is weird... so the guy had to find a copy of the game that updated and then his old version worked as well.  What in the world.

Maybe I missed it.
1.) I think it's assumed he had his system updated already.  @retro junkie - Did you 100% update your system?
2.) He said the update didn't immediately pop up, and I know the eshop upgrades will no longer work through the eshop method (since Nov 2023) to manually kick off the update.  I don't think there is a way to manually download any updates at this time:

No sir... I don't like it

@mastermario AH!  However, I can say the same... as you need to dig a bit deeper than the link.  I've already checked that part out.  Notice we are on SMF 2.1.16 you can see this from the body of the board.

It is interesting they did briefly update for 2.0.18 in 2021... but that was before 2.0.19 and the subsequent moving to 2.1.x

Most or all the other old versions are from our old board days (2007-2009).  While the mod "TECHNICALLY" exists... it doesn't exist in a usable form as of right now.

@retro junkie - man... thankfully I've not experienced this. I need to test out my games again.

So far all are working ...

Quote from: mastermario on July 12, 2025, 10:16:19 PMCandy crush is great! But haven't played it in years haha.

Right now, only Star Wars Galaxy of Heroes which is pretty fun and a good time-waster.

You were at a ridiculous level of Candy Crush @mastermario --> That was ridiculous lol.  :))

Quote from: Mai Valentine on July 15, 2025, 08:39:43 PMPokemon Go and Pokemon TCG Pocket. I like the collecting aspect of PTCGP but the battling is fun, too.
We probably need a topic on Pokemon TCG Pocket @Mai Valentine lol  ;D   I'm curious how the battling works

Quote from: retro junkie on July 26, 2025, 05:38:49 PM@BLUEVOODU I found only two out of my 3DS games, Monster Hunter Generations and Persona Q.
I am glad that my Batman Black Gate worked because I have seen it turning bad too.
@retro junkie -- were you able to see the settings screen for WiFi with Persona Q?  Just to at least see the settings and see what I was showing?

There is no @Grindspine ... only Zuul

Both games are now available if you have the Nintendo Switch Expansion Pack.  Super Mario Strikers from the Gamecube and Mario Paint for the Super Nintendo are now able to be played.  The cool part about Mario Pain is the Nintendo Switch 2 has "mouse" functionality with the Joy-cons.  This works pretty well and is intuitive for the most part.

Is anyone else excited?  Thoughts... Comments... Post it up!

Metal Slug Tactics takes the Metal Slug franchise and throws it into a Tactical style of play. It is now coming to the Nintendo Switch in physical form for a limited release.  The price is $35 right off the bat... and that's not bad in my opinion for a Limited Run game.  I ended up pre-ordering it.

 @SpartanEvolved got me very interested in this title when he got it on the PC.  I about bought it on Steam but just decided the backlog was too long.

According to the description, it's more of a tactical rpg... and I'm pumped for this title even though it's not "new."  It is new, However, for a physical release... also released on the ps5. Single player only!

My bad on that... I updated the post.

Quote from: CreepinDeth on July 25, 2025, 09:04:23 PMWe did?!

I genuinely don't remember. I'd do it but would depend on when.
@CreepinDeth yeah... this is YEARS ago. We had flash chat and would meet here and there. Not necessarily on a consistent regular schedule... that part is a little different.  I'm proposing that part to help coordinate - if that helps.

Let's kick off a potential time frame.

What do you all think about maybe a Tuesday 8 or 9PM (EST) for 15-30 minutes?

#141
I made progress in Doom 1 & Doom 2 (mainly Doom 2) on Steam... the versions with the updated soundtrack.

Also - Installed (lol) Aliens Fire Team on Steam  - going to play with @mastermario @Grindspine and / or @SpartanEvolved at some point.

I also charged up my PS Vita again... it's been dead for awhile as I just haven't picked it up.  It's time for more Playstation Vita Dariusburst Chronicle Saviours

@targetrasp AWESOME. Woot Woot

@CreepinDeth @SpartanEvolved @mastermario --> What do you guys think?

Does anyone else have other ideas to try to invite more people as well?

General Discussion / Happy Birthday Grindspine!!
July 25, 2025, 05:26:14 PM
Happy Birthday @Grindspine --  early.  This is early because the rest have been pretty much late this year.  Enjoy your digital cake coming up.

I think Sushi Saturday is in accord.  @SpartanEvolved agrees... so does @mastermario.  They're all flying in for all you can eat Sushi!

As always, if you get the gift of gaming, POST UP YOUR SPOILS!!! :great:

Quote from: retro junkie on July 16, 2025, 04:56:24 PM@BLUEVOODU just found my first one. Monster Hunter Generations will not boot. The game is recognized but it will not boot up. I never got into that game anyway. So I am not that upset. I favor Monster Hunter story.
@retro junkie  --> That's a bummer it won't boot. That game was pretty decent!

Did you find any others? lol  ;D
#145
I agree @Mai Valentine ... because there is no distribution, media, insert or anything else.  There's no loss / spillage / damage / etc. The digital is a big advantage for those selling it... cutting out the middle man.  I mean you can still buy some games in store via card... but ... why? :question::question::question:
#146
@Mai Valentine --> what are they putting in place?   Are the DVD and Blu-Rays just not selling at all?  No love for physical media

LOL... you know, @mastermario, I don't think those old style games still exist anymore.  That's a thing of the yesterday years.  It would be cool to see if something new exists though.

Nice!  I bought it for the Switch... and it's still sealed.  It really looks great and plan to open it within the week.  Might need a topic for this game.  ;D
