well... to be fair, I haven't played it in forever... so I'm not sure how well it aged.   I really need to break out my Gamecube though.  That's one game I'd like to explore again.

@targetrasp re-reviewing some of these... man... What does the Fox say... while it's funny, it's one serious groove he has going on there.  I get it's supposed to be funny, but there's some serious talent there and it's well produced.  I dig how well its put together.  Good choice @Kinikko .

DING DING DING DING DING  DA DING DA DING lol...

@Grindspine Did you check this out yet?

I Really liked this game.  I used to play it with my Nephew way back then... but my son likes playing it now.    It was a blast from the past.

lol... you can check people into the electrical fences  ;D  they scream pretty bad.

This is an must have game (in my opinion) for the Wii.  Obviously you need to enjoy arcade style soccer / sports games, but it's a lot of fun.

But you can't play the Japan version on the US Cube unless it is modded.

Well... then there's that.   BUT... you never know... maybe you want to mod  ;D

lol yes... creepy weird is right.   I Played it a few times and put it away... but this game definitely commands a premium.   I had a hard time getting in back then.

If you look towards the Japanese version, you will find it around $30... I believe it is.

Retro Gaming and Hardware / Cubivore - Gamecube
January 19, 2019, 09:09:07 PM
This was one weird... and in somewhat creepy game lol.  You're a cube and you eat other animal-esque  cubes.  Once you eat them... you take on traits like them.

@retro junkie 's Gamecube Pulled out and playing thread made me think about other Gamecube games and topics.  This game was Nintendo only on the Gamecube and is somewhat rare.  It was rare back when it came out as well... and I managed to score a copy.

Has anyone else played this?

Thoughts, comments?  Post it up!

Viewtiful Joe!   Wow... that's a game I haven't played in a long time.  I have fond memories there... it's probably been at least 10 years since I've played it.  I Really want to break out my Gamecube.  I don't understand the backlash the Gamecube received... it had such good games.  It's pretty funny... when the Wii was launched with backwards compatibility... you couldn't find Gamecube games.  They were all in demand AND gone and everyone was saying "How did I miss this game?"

Viewtiful joe... if I am correct, @Strubes was a big fan of this game.

Just a heads up... we had issues with our Wii U Nintendo provided HDMI cable.   It's been noted that their Wii U display on screen flashes randomly with Nintendo's cable.  This happened to us.  IT's VERY obnoxious as the screen will go to black and back to displaying the Wii U screen in 1-2 seconds... and it will repeat.  Sometimes it wouldn't do that.

I ended up replacing the cable in a rage fit.  We are playing Super Mario Maker and it kept doing that at least 30 times.

@Grindspine that Fear Factory concert was really cool... can't believe that was already 6 years ago....

I've made 0 progress on games this week...  :-[ :o
wait... I made a small and quick "progress" on Adventure Capitalist on the iPad lol.
#1483
yeah.. I understand what you mean by that.  Still... going back to 5 and 6... they are still really fun.

Super Mario Party is a lot of fun but it seems many are ripping on it.   Mario Party can't seem to catch a break.   This one is a lot of fun... though I wish orbs were back.  The new Dice system is interesting - I mean... that only goes so far though.  Some are a tad unfair.

I heard the Switch version was the same as the Wii U version... except the have a couple changes.  Post up how you like it.
#1485
@targetrasp Blu-ray is most definitely licensed.  However, I can only assume they could make something close to it proprietary for Nintendo.  I don't think Nintendo is in the business of making discs and disc technology.  However, I'm not totally sure where they got it from.  It is classified as Nintendo proprietary though by everyone that talks about it.

How do you like it @retro junkie ?  I did this for my PS4... but not Wii U.  I haven't hit any of my Wii U Limits ... yet...
#1486
I had the problem with some Neo Geo CD games. It wasn't really common...  but it happened.

Yeah... Nintendo uses proprietary discs... so they used a proprietary 25GB disc. However, I wonder how close it is to a Blu-ray...  because several articles do talk about that and the size similarities.  It is possible it's  'rebranded' Blu-ray...  but i'm not sure Sony would do that.

#1487
@targetrasp so there is something to where the Wii U games are more fragile on the disc data layer?

That's a bummer on your discs @retro junkie

yeah... when I had my shop... the 1st thing I would do is hold the disc up to light to see if there were any spots where it showed through at all.

Outside of Super Smash Bros, Splatoon has most of my time.  Such a fun game IMO.

Bomberman R is pretty fun as well!  My son played a ton of Mario Odyssey.  I played it for awhile... it's definitely cool.  I just don't find myself playing a lot of platformers right now.  I don't know why because historically I like them a lot.

I still want to get Zelda.  Flashback was fun... and there's a few cool shmups and Neo Geo games too on the shop.
#1489
Isn't this typical of all CD, DVD, and Blu-ray type discs?  If the top side is damaged... that's worse than the bottom side as that the top is where the data layer technically resides.
#1490
Yeah... I get that.  I've had to re-invent myself 3-4 times now after my store... and working on another one even though I'm keeping my current tasks going that I've done the last 7 years.

So... working through 6-8 new certifications now.  I know and am friends with several Ex-IBMers still working in the IT fields in their 60s. They've been lucky to be able to do the same thing (with subtle changes) for the last 25 years.  I've never had this pleasure... most people do not.

Keeping the topic rolling  ;D  I just passed another IT Certification.    AWS Cloud Practitioner... now I'm on to studying AWS Solutions Architect Associates... I'm also currently studying Linux for the Linux+/LPIC 1 exam... and will be working on the LPIC 2 exam after that.   Then on to Red Hat and SUSE  SLES Certifications.

This is partly why I've been a tad MIA... I've had to study a lot lately.   Feel Free to help keep up topics though... I could use the help.

That's cool - There are a couple games that ran pretty well back then in that mode in which emulators today haven't been able to replicate well.

Terminal Velocity comes to mind.   So Does Crusader: No Remorse and No Regret.  Origin had good versions of those that were pretty true to the original.   There was another, but I cannot remember the name.

Doom and Doom 2... these games had better turning and speed / motion before the Windows 95 Launcher.  People think I'm crazy, but I used to play the Dos based versions a lot.  I noticed a big different.  I would love to have found 4 Pentium PCs from the older spec and setup a LAN.

General Discussion / Bumble Bee the Movie
January 10, 2019, 10:00:19 PM
Did anyone else see this movie?   I Thought it was pretty good.  It definitely could lead into other things... but the ending was really cool.   The movie seemed to stay more true to the Transformer Animated series.

Comments, Thoughts.. post it up!

FortNite / Re: FortNite Cross Play works well Now
January 06, 2019, 08:36:07 PM
@Grindspine we should get the 4 of us to play at some point.  That would be fun.  We have 1 switch and 1 PS4 we play on... we could join up with you.

As far as Unreal... I'm not sure.  I still want to try that.  I Think we need a topic on it.  More games need to do what FortNite has done in the way of Crossplay.  It's how this should be done.
#1496
Does anyone else have this?

It is one of my favorite games for the Switch.

Splatfest just finished... it was a lot of fun. Did anyone else participate?
#1497
Lol no @targetrasp chickendinnergaming.com  wasn't meant to be any game centric. It was more of a play on the winner winner chicken dinner ... and site about winning.   But some of that stuff has strayed a bit.  Trying to figure out where from here right now... this place is here to stay and I've done what I've done to make sure what happened to the old won't be required with the new.

I played a bit of splatfest in Splatoon 2 for the switch.  I think my son accomplished max level. It was a lot of fun.

I Will write more later... studying... quick comment though... I'd like to pick up Angry Birds Trilogy.  I actually enjoy those games a bit. I bought Angry Birds Star Wars for PS4 for $7 I think many years back.  Angry Birds Trilogy for Wii U is $40 on Amazon... and I don't see it cheaper anywhere else.  I'd like to get that though... but I Won't pay anywhere near $40.

One of the most surprising IMO is the Sniper Elite V2.  Which ones surprised you?

That counts. Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 has one of the best compilation soundtracks ever. GTA comes close but THPS2 brings back so many memories.
Need for Speed Most wanted (original) had some cool stuff too.

Pro Skater 3 Had Alien Ant Farm Wish... and was my favorite game.  I think 2 had the better sound track though.

@Grindspine Check the terminal velocity music?   I Started figuring out on 7 string @ B the base riff that goes under the part we used to always play.  I Think we could get that done and done.

If the Video goes somewhere else other than the beginning... start at beginning for intro... and 2nd song IMO is the best.
