along the whole IPs making a come back theme...

I just bought Battletoads on Steam for 5 bucks... gonna give it a go this weekend. It looks chaotic. Its predecessor was wild, kinda hoping for more of the same only a tiny bit less unforgiving

@BLUEVOODU @Frodus I happen to catch Tiny Metal on sale and it wasn't bad at all. After shoveling a dozen hours into it I realized where I learned about it and wanted to come back to a years long dead thread to say thanks!

too many games, too little time

Retro Gaming and Hardware / Polymega
April 01, 2021, 10:37:45 PM
https://polymega.com/

Been considering getting one for a while now and after missing out an all the analogue stuff I talked myself into it. There was a $50 off code because of some snafu with walmart.com and a light gun that pushed me over the edge.

Lots of gripe over social about how long the project has taken, orders being stalled, business issues, blah blah blah... I'm hoping it happens, this thing looks pretty awesome.

Its a joke - its almost to the point where if you want a video card you have to buy a prebuilt pc with that video card and sell off the other pieces, heck i think in some circumstances its cheaper that way...

article from may 2020 https://time.com/5837274/tsm-chip-plant-arizona/

"TSMC said Friday it will start construction of its next major fabrication facility in 2021, to be completed by 2024. "

lol, about that long

lol - I'm old and don't like change! The song is fine its just hard to accept a new song in that slot! It'd be like changing the tempo on darth vader's music.
#189
Couldn't they have just used the same singer from the original series?

Almost a deal breaker, but I'm in.

We just need to hurry up and build more chip manufacturing plants stateside.

my intent was a complete set but one of the lower numbered carts i never even saw offered and the next batch i completely ignored. Really wish i would have skipped out on a few things and went for the polymega
#193
So it's not the greatest?

I've yet to open mine

I've found with gamestop you can pretty much assume disc in generic case unless it says disc only. 25% of the time you'll get more than just generic case. It's annoying but if you set the bar low and buy assuming crap you'll sometimes be pleasantly surprised. HECK new doesn't mean sealed in pack. Twice now i've gotten new that's opened, one had the wrap on it but was mostly coming off and the other was completely opened but had a new sticker slapped on it. LUCKILY when i really want a complete item I buy two, one to open and play, one to put up.

the game sounds familiar but i don't remember playing it. Originally I was on the fence but it's a retro compilation, gotta get it.

sweet haul,

Happy Birthday

The 360 and the ps3 happen to be around the time I had kids. I was broke and didn't buy much that generation, especially more towards the end of it. It was also the time my kids were growing up and wrecking things, so what i did have went through some stuff! TLDR those dollar games were perfect for me.

General Discussion / Re: The New Face of Retro Gaming?
February 18, 2021, 09:22:35 PM
IDK, i think there's been a renaissance in retro collecting brought about by the youtube mega collectors. Ebay prices have been flying up, and anything pre ps2 is hard to find out in the wild. some of my rarer games have doubled and tripled in value in the last year.

I will admit I'm running thin on space and do enjoy the portability digital allows for but I'm all about physical media. My digital collection is fairly limited to steam. I do have some downloads here and there one a few of the consoles but once that generation of console is out it's almost like I've lost the game.

I do think the generation does have something to do with what items are hot. Gamecube's recent explosion seems to support that thesis but i don't think the SNES and NES stuff has dipped much if any. It's funny, my kids will be going after wii, ps3 and 360 (if they even care about it later). I've already started picking up those for cheap, and really grabbing any ps4 i can thats under 5 bucks.

No snow this time, just some ice... We've seen a lot more snow than normal here, although not a lot of snow is normal here

@CreepinDeth --- Tomb Raider is defiantly a series I want to give another look to. I've played them all but never finished one...
#201
It's Russian roulette! some have been immaculate, some have been garbage. at sub $1.00 though I'm willing to gamble.

As for quality of games it's limited. There's tons of sports games to skip through but anything Battlefield, COD, Assassians Creed, God of War, Fable, etc. you may have missed is usually up there. So far I'm getting about half of what i ordered in its original case and 2 /3rds of that has its books. Some are disc only (usually noted) but a good bit comes in those generic cases beat to pieces. Usually its just the case thats garbage, every once in a while the game is pretty trashed. Great for filler and achievement hunting
#202
@CreepinDeth you may have encouraged me to finish it out, I really quit after 2 or 3 episodes deep.

I blew my game diet and prepurchased / picked up every February release game I was interested in plus got a ton of xbox 360 / ps3 games. It's really slowed my Radiata progress and on top of that i started up Ys 9. I've got to get through these RPGs because Bravely Default 2 will be here before I know it and I've continually put of getting Immortal Fenyx Rising..

I've been watching gamestop.com just about daily seeing as how its one of the few places I can find the GI Joe classified figures. I've also been watching their older stuff as when new generation hits two generations ago get culled. I've been buying xbox 360 and ps3 games for sub 1.00 each and right now there's a buy 2 get one free on the low price stuff and a 4 for 20 on 9.99 and under games. I've probably ordered 40 games this weekend and spent well under 80 bucks.

The president's day sale seems to feature different games on different days but the stuff two generations ago seems to stay on sale.

rezzed...

BOO! consoles good, need physical media to hoard!!!

If it came with amazon I'd try it, I'm not paying another monthly subscription for anything!

If they keep coming out with streaming services there'll be another reckoning, akin to cable cutting... stream stopping, damming... I'll leave the phrasing to people with more wit than I.

Cable cutting became a cost cutting measure. Cable had a nice regional monopoly situation going on and it got more and more expensive as time went on. Netflix, Hulu, etc. came out with much cheaper options (I'm sure you guys don't need a history lesson) and cable didn't adapt quick enough so it lost out, big time. Now the other end of that looks to be happening. On top of Netflix, prime, Hulu, etc. ruling the space the stinking networks are starting their own. If i wanna watch Picard i have to have CBS all access, game of thrones - some sort of hbo, saved by the bell, peacock... pretty soon you'll be having to juggle many streaming services to keep up with your favorites, and at 6 bucks a clip per month per network that'll get cable expensive quick... not to mention more of a hassle. The older generation aren't going to be able to keep up with the tech and the younger generations are too busy working 4 jobs to afford their tiny home.

Managing all this is going to be a nightmare. Imagine if when TV first came out you had to buy different TVs for each channel, or for small clusters of channels. I feel like that scenario is looming. Its not quite that bad, at least not in the tv space. One media player can typically play a ton of services, but bouncing back and forth, keeping up with inventories, etc. If you could load everything into one easy to navigate guide channel and search from there, seamlessly bouncing from service to service...

Now with gaming... Amazon, Apple, Stadia, Amico coming soon, Atari is back, and of course there's the big 3. Heck it was only a few generations back the world couldn't support a fourth major player, and forget about the players we lost in the fourth and fifth generations (neo geo, cdi, 3d0, Atari) spreading the market share around so much seems like it would limit available resources in turn eroding quality in some way.

i picked it up at some point. I've loaded it on the ps4 but haven't played it yet. It looks fantastic, I can't wait to get into it

hasbro game night has three of the best board games by Hasbro, Risk, Trivial Pursuit, and Monopoly, and in retrospect was a stupid purchase since covid. My kids are 10 and 13 so Trivial Pursuit and Risk with them wouldn't be fun, so really all we've been able to pay is Monopoly. I've not taken it online yet, if you can play with friends that'd be awesome (finding friends that have it may be difficult though).

I did venture out and pick up Super Mario 3d World + Bowsers Fury and Ys 10 for the Switch and PS4 respectively. I've not played either yet, looking forward to carving some time out later today for one or both.

The Mandalorian is worth the price of admission! de ja vu...

I started up Paper Mario Origami King Saturday night. It's about as good expected, it makes me want to dig out Super Mario RPG and the SNES.
