@Grindspine and @targetrasp what do you think about 1:30-2:00pm EST Start?

I'd be ok with any of those games mentioned.   Black Ops 4... we can try to play that a little later.  We've been playing Diablo 3 with season characters with @SpartanEvolved and @Jack  ... MAybe we could continue that.  Grindspine... you would have to create a new season character, but it won't take you long to level up.  We are in act 2... you could also continue Act 1 at whatever point.

Thoughts?

The AES stuff I can see.

I'm still attempting to talk myself into getting another AES. The argument I keep tripping over goes something like this "an AES and 5 games I want or a PS2 and 500?" Granted, that's a lot of shovel ware but the 5 games I'd buy and the AES would cost about what the 500 ish ps2 games I don't have and want would cost.

You know me... I love the Neo Geo AES.   I would look into a Neo Geo MVS.   The games are WAY CHEAPER for the most part.  Neo Geo AES games appear to have risen even more than they used to be.  As much as I love the Neo Geo AES and the few games I have for it, I cannot recommend people to get back into it.  I Will say this... If you do buy the AES, you probably will never lose money in it.

We need more Neo Geo topics...

SO @targetrasp ... Gamestop dropped the ball on my Vita Axiom Verge.   They never shipped from the other store and they have no clue as to what's going on.  THANKFULLY... the website had them in stock for order from the website.   They were NOT available online until I noticed today.  I don't know what happened, but I have one on the way.  So help me if this one does not come through... I'm probably going to punch puppies.  ;D

I noticed this on Nintendo's site.   Gris - Indie game... and it looks really interesting and good.  The sound is awesome (in the trailer)... and are is very cool.  Hopefully the game play in actuality is as awesome as it looks:
Gorgeous indie game GRIS launches for Nintendo Switch on Dec. 13 - Nintendo.com

Check this trailer out... it looks really good!  While I do not know a lot about the story of this game, I'd like to try it out and learn a bit more.  Again... that Art style... and music...

In our semi-hijacked thread created by @retro junkie Roms, Emulation, and Nintendo, we started to discuss Nintendo Ending functionality for the Nintendo Wii.

As of January 30, 2019... Nintendo is closing down the Wii Shop Reminder: Wii Shop closes January 30, 2019 - Nintendo.com.  The Official announcement was made in September 2017 - Wii Shop closure announcement - Nintendo.com  Funny enough... there are 668 Facebook likes on that article at the time of this post.

ALSO close is the Streaming Services on the Nintendo Wii... most notably - Netflix. There are many articles out there... here's one from Engadget - Wii Shop closure announcement - Engadget.com

I have to say... I'm amazed it lasted this long.  Production ended in 2013... so... 5-6ish years later, these services are ending.  HOWEVER, I'm a bit disappointed in you Nintendo.  It appears we have to jump through hoops to get our Virtual Console games to the Wii U before the Wii Shop closes.   Then... I have yet to figure out how to get them to the Nintendo Switch - if that's even possible.  It would be cool if there's a way for the shop to instantly transfer to the Switch and bypass the transfer.  There should be a way to unlock those transactions so they become account based and not device based like they were on the Wii.  I know I had an issue with the Wii Transfer back 2-3 years ago when I purchased a Wii U... it had something to do with the account.  I don't remember exactly what it was, but the transfer wouldn't work.  Hopefully that can be worked out as I have 10-15 great Virtual Console / Wii shop games - Sin and Punishment... amongst many others.

I really like now that fortnite has cross play on PS4, but does that mean other games on PS4 could have cross play? The world may never know.
well... Probably not.  For a Short time, Steam integrated Portal 2 with Steam and PlayStation 3.  They could've done A LOT more... maybe another topic another time.  While this connectivity still works for Portal 2, they just didn't keep it utilize it for other titles.

The partnership could've went very far... Half-Life 2, Left 4 Dead, Alien Swarm, and many other titles could've had cross play capabilities and extended the user base.

LOL... ok .... so let's split these new topics up.

@targetrasp , @CreepinDeth , @Grindspine and @Jack Care to help?  I'll work on creating 1-2... or creating other new topics as well.

Wii discontinuing online functionality   ;D
Metal Topic   ;D
Difference in original and remastered (fighting urge to mention star wars...)
box sets
Lars ruined Metallica (attempting to incite a riot)
lawsuit (topic adjacent)

COMING back to topic LOL... it would be cool to have a unified service to host all the games in 1 place.  I Wonder if Sony, Nintendo, and all other companies would agree to do something like that.  UGh... that's yet another good topic.

cd did a lot of trickery to make games look a lot better... remember Silpheed? The Polygon shooter that looked awesome until you figured out the backgrounds were just streamed from the cd. it was essentially cheap green screen trickery. The level was moving in the background while your ship stayed in the same square.
Man...I guess I forgot this.   That's pretty crazy they were able to pull it off.  It makes sense though... a lot of the 3DO and SEGA CD games of the time (even some Saturn) had that look like the characters were fighting in front of a green screen... or other action was in front of a green screen.

A couple years ago, Pokémon Go arrived and everyone was addicted.  It was one of the most popular Cell Phone / mobile games.  At the time, the game caught 5 new world records - Pokémon Go - Guiness Book of World Records.  Gamers were walking about trying to find the Pokémon around the street... and capture them.   Pokémon Go came and went... the game died off quickly after a series of updates that were seemingly unpopular.  However, it appears gamers are talking about this game again.

If I remember correctly, @Mai Valentine and @Kinikko used to play.  Does anyone else currently play or have you recently got back into the game?   Does this game and style of game still appeal to anyone?

ugh... @targetrasp I missed it... It's been gone for 3 weeks.  I had it on Amazon... balked at the buy right then and there... and I cannot get it now at BestBuy.com , gamestop.com , amazon.com ... or anywhere....

Everywhere else JACKED up the price.   I'm not too happy about that.

That is the PC version... @mastermario  mentioned it.  He's been nagging me to play lol... we should all join up to play.  It's pretty fun.  Takes a few plays to get used to it... but it's good.

I'm pretty sure he's boycotting the site right now because I haven't played PSO with him yet lol  :))

As far as Gamecube Phantasy Star Online being active... nope... long dead.

The problem I'm having with this right now... according to conversion rates and articles I've read, the release is supposed to be around the $142-150 price range.  I probably would be down with that.  But $210 via PLay-Asia...  it's annoying me a little bit.  That's a lot of money.

From what I understand, if you can order is from Amazon Japan
... Nevermind... it's now 34,500 Yen... which is $302.   :o  Why the heck is it $302 in Japan now on Amazon.   It did say it was a prime day collectors edition.  the one linked in my original post was a collectors edition as well.  No other collectors edition was listed on JP Amazon.

Yeah... I'm a little annoying at this one.  I don't really have an extra $210 sitting around right now, so I'll probably pass.

was actually considering buying the switch version since it had an exclusive cd soundtrack on top of everything else, however it seems likely vita was less mass produced

Ah man... I didn't realize the Nintendo Switch version has the added sound track as well.  Dangit...

It looks like Gamestop has the Axiom Verge Nintendo Switch for $24!  It's $40-ish at Amazon.com.  I'm tempted to get the Switch version as well.  Definitely will stick with Playstation Vita.    It's a bit annoying that they didn't include the soundtrack... thank you for punching my OCD @targetrasp  lol  ;D

I Completely forgot about Popful Mail.  I remember back when I owned my store... some one gave me a list and Popful Mail was on there.  I never heard of it at that point. IF you hear "Popful Mail..." your next question has to be "what the what is that?!"

Final Fight CD... I had one of these come across as well.  At the time, I didn't have a test Sega CD to play it.  Sad face.. I really wanted to try it out.  MAybe we need a topic on this one...   Was it better than Final Fight on the Super Nintendo?

I know @Jack was pumped for the Switch release as well.  Diablo 3 was released November 2nd on the switch.  Honestly though... I haven't heard many people talking about It - yet.

Guys at work were excited for the Offline play so we could play on the conference room TV over lunches LOL.

you better download all those vc games onto something, starting jan 2019 there's no vc or Netflix on wii
Ugh... we need a thread for this too.  Really?  Why can't they just magically import them or make them work on the Switch.  Now I need to figure out what to do.  Thank you for telling me @targetrasp

@CreepinDeth Yeah... I totally remember this happening with Black Sabbath and Ozzy Albums.  I Was glad to buy the remastered version... but not at the cost of losing the original recordings.  I have them all and in good condition.  In fact, I bought a really cool small Megadeth boxset in Germany.  I also bought @Grindspine a rare Napalm Death CD over there... if I remember correctly... or was that something else Grinspine?  Maybe I bought me the Napalm Death and he the Dimmu borger (Spelling?)

QuoteWe need a metal thread asap!

OK.. Metal Thread - let's start It up! lol.  Do eet... do eet now!  Megadeth - Hanger 18!

Metallica... I love their old stuff... but they lost it at Load.  They Lost it hard... It's sad to say... but honestly, they may have just been burnt out of everything as well.  Others will say they lost it at the Black Album.  IDK... there are some really good songs on the black album.

I didn't realize Nintendo won a Lawsuit... that's another topic we need... that would be a great topic.

^ Now that's a lot of on and off topic ^ lol  ;D

I wonder what happens to the physical copies of fortnite when the servers go offline? will it still be insanely expensive due to rarity alone or once there's nothing to play does it lose appeal
Well.. we are already seeing that with Wii, Xbox, and some Gamecube games.   Phantasy Star Online seems to have kept it's value - so far.  I guess a lot depends If there is still single player capable.  Can you play the Save the World mode of FortNite offline?

I Cannot imagine paying top dollar for a game you couldn't even play because the servers are down.  BUT it could also be like Phantasy Star Online where fans started up their own servers.

So... I found the PlayStation Vita Multiverse collections edition (I think it was collectors) at Gamestop in another town.  I have it on order... so hopefully it will be on the way soon.  UNFORTUNATELY, they didn't do a direct ship... they did a ship to store.  The local Gamestop said "yeah... they aren't doing their job."  They did a bro move and ordered for me.  But that was a week ago.... $24 new.

Hopefully this arrives soon...   I Thought It was cool to find the PlayStation Vita Physical version.  It probably will be well for the collector side of things.
#1887
@Jack I Think you forgot to add me to PS4  ;D

I Think it's time we get a Black Ops 4 match going.   That ... and we need to play Diablo 3 again.

@targetrasp I saw you play this the other night... how did you like it?
#1888
Well... back in what... 2001?  I dropped $350 on Metal Slug 3 Japanese for the Neo Geo AES.   I never thought twice about it.

Outside the Neo Geo AES.... I Cannot find myself spending that kind of money in this day and age of gaming.... nope.  I mean... if it was the uber-God-of-the-whale armor (old Diablo 1 reference) edition of something I really want, maybe?  I Cannot 100% rule it out though.  I've done it once.  The thing about the Neo Geo AES game, I knew I wasn't going to lose out on the money if I ever needed to sell it off for whatever reason.

If I needed to sell the statues and game, would there even be a market?  possibly.   It's just a unique piece.

Speaking of Gradius... you should check out this post on this game called Super Hydorah.  Maybe you have heard of it?

Super Hydorah

There are a lot of similarities to Gradius.

I believe I have the Gradius Collection for the PSP as well... this post made me want to break that out AND Gradius Galaxies for the Game Boy Advance.

Yeah... we need to create more Neo Geo posts... There's a lot to cover again lol  ;D

The clicky switches were nice.  But as I mentioned... they wore out quite a bit on the Neo Geo game pads.  I'm a bit torn if they should be used anymore... EVEN THOUGH I love the clicky switches.

These are out and shipping now, correct? Anyone have any experiences of the Neo Geo Mini to Share?
