Retro Gaming and Hardware / Re: Mario Party 5 - Game Cube
September 14, 2018, 11:28:40 AM
Mario Party 5 is one of my favorites... by far.  It wasn't until we Played Mario Party 6 that I found a Mario Party close to 5 - maybe even better.  Mario Party 6 had the Sun / Moon characters... and night / day maps.

@mastermario , @Grindspine , @SpartanEvolved and I would play Mario Part 5 when they would come over for LAN parties.   Family Wise, we would play Mario Party 5 all the time... and recently we started playing Mario Party 6.

Mario Party 5 is a proper entry into the series.  I don't think it has received enough love over the years from those reviewing all the Mario Party games.  It doesn't score extremely high on the list.  This game is still extremely fun to go back to and play.

So ... I was sucked into the Shadow of the Tomb Raider game... and bought the Croft Steelbook Edition.  I bought it to get it 2 days early from the normal September 14th Launch date.   I have prime 2 day shipping and ordered it early on the 10th.  I received the game on the 13th - 1st world problems.

I contacted Amazon support because I paid extra for the game to play it early.  They said it's because I also bought coffee.     ???     Items are normally shipped out when they're ready to go and I have Amazon set this way.  For whatever reason, it impacted this shipment. ??? ???

Next time, I will complete the transaction for the game only and buy my other games separately.   IF I have multiple pre-orders, I Will buy eat game independently.

1st world problems.

@CreepinDeth - Will Do!   I have some screenshots of the case to load up.  I received the game a day early ... should've been 2 days.  I'll post a topic on this soon - but don't order other stuff with your pre-orders LOL.  They can delay the rest of your order.

@targetrasp Wow... have those games come down in price?  For awhile... I thought they were a lot higher.  Maybe I'm only thinking of Super Mario Advance 4 - Super Mario Bros. 3.... but I could've sworn others skyrocketed in price.

As stated in the Neo Geo Mini Topic, I'm bumping this thread.

Who is buying one of these units?  I'm seriously considering one.  So many things...   Why for there so many things?!

yes you did, @CreepinDeth  lol... yes you did.   I completely forgot about that.  Zombies Ate my Neighbor lol - ah, such a fun game.

I'm going to bump that topic.  It's so pretty.  I want one   ;D

You guys both scored some awesome games.  lol.... Captain Commando.   I have found memories of that game.  I Still have my copy.

@targetrasp  I have 1 question - How did you get Super Mario World: Super Mario Advance 2 as "cheap stuff?"   I thought that was still expensive... ?  And Final Fantasy Chrystal Chronicles.  I Remember that game.

YEah.. it's definitely not the same for the Neo Geo Pocket Color.  It's still fun, but not the same. I bought Baseball stars on Steam - That's pretty cool with the achievements.  My favorite version of Baseball Stars might be the Neo Geo CD version.  We need more Neo Geo conversation  ;D

Those are good memories!  I have some pretty similar.

OOOooo   we need a topic on those.  I like them ... I like them  A LOT  ;D

@Polygon - I'm looking into Sonic Mania... I've been jonesing for the games since you mentioned it.  Still playing it?

@Strubes Did they add anything new to Rocket League?  I've had this game since the Steam controller came out.   I can count on 1 hand how many times I've played it.   The game is a lot of fun though... looks like we need a Rocket League topic.

News / Leaks / Rumors / Re: Skull Kid In Smash Ultimate?!
September 13, 2018, 02:15:47 PM
LOL .... the moon as an assist trophy?  Does that mean the moon will crash to earth and smash your opponent?  That would be cool.  Although I think it would hit all players on screen... which would be a funny move.   Win by Attrition.

The Skull kid would be a very cool addition to the line-up of characters.  Have you seen anything else on this @Bomber Man ?
#1961
@Kinikko I hear you... IT is a bit expensive...  mainly due to the Pro controller included.  I like the steelbook case... it's a well done design.  I'm getting to the end of my random gaming purchases lol.

@targetrasp yes... saved for later for me too.  Still not active.

@Bomber Man I agree with you 100%.   Very cool  - Maybe this coming Christmas lol.

I bought Shadow of the Tomb Raider early edition with the cool steelbook:
Chickendinnergaming - Shadow of the Tomb Raider Topic

This game was rated 9/10 by IGN... more posting about that soon.   The steelbook design is pretty cool as well - as noted in the above topic.

I think I'm buying Overwatch @mastermario

@Strubes Dragon Quest look interesting.   I have Spider-Man installed and ready to go lol... meant to play over the weekend.
ChickenDinnerGaming - Spider-man topic

SO... I made progress in Spider-man by installing the game LOL.  I also made some more progress in Defense Grid.

@targetrasp This might work:

I Appreciate the support - Thank you.  This helps with Hosting and funding future projects where I need to pay for developer assistance.

I want one of these.  I'm wondering how the included controller performs.  IE if the mechanisms are like the old Neo Geo arcade sticks.

@targetrasp I would buy from the ads at the top (click then navigate to the item).  I can make it easier in future links and setup direct links for certain items.

Did the remove Nam 1975 and Baseball Stars from a prior version? Or did they just not decide to include it?

@CreepinDeth lucky lol... I'm in the same boat as @retro junkie  and have spent all my gaming monies.  Star Ocean was a pretty cool game if I remember it correctly.. Cannot go wrong there.

I hope this is as cool as it looks.

Has anyone else checked out the Lenovo Legion Laptops at Newegg?  They look pretty slick.

I will start up a topic in PC at some point on them.

General Discussion / Re: Roms, Emulation, and Nintendo
September 12, 2018, 05:54:05 PM
I used to be pretty against Roms/Emulation - more from the business aspect... but also legal aspect.  I figured at some point, they would start to crack down hard on these activities.  They were cracking down on them in the early 2000's... and rightfully so.  I've created things in the past, had them stolen, and that sucks.  It doesn't matter if it's ideas at work, project plans, something patented... etc.  On the flip side of the coin, many corporations have stolen things from people and that is not ok as well.

I agree with @mastermario in that it's going to be hard (if not impossible) to stop them all.

The problem I have with 1st party companies - such as Nintendo - offering up their digital games is they are generally not at a discount.  It is really cool when HD remakes come out, introduce trophies, and add to the original aspects of the game.  There still should be  an archive of the original games... like music as well.  For example, Megadeth has a remastered version of their Rust in Piece album.  Cool stuff... sounds good.  But some musical parts have changed from the original CDs.  You cannot buy these originals in MP3 form from Amazon and other online businesses... so those versions get lost in translation.   I have the original physical copies... so there are originals in my possession.  It would be cool if they could figure out a way to create a "gaming repository" and you pay monthly or whatever to gain access to this repository.  The repository has all original classics for a system and you can play them whenever.  That would be cool IMO.  So you would buy the Sega Saturn Repository and get all Sega Saturn games.. or Nintendo 64... or Super Nintendo.  It would be very hard to have all 3rd companies agree to this though.

These days you don't have to compile distros. I just download the distro and create a bootable USB drive and install it that way. Don't even need a disc drive anymore. These are glorious times.  ;D

@CreepinDeth LOL - Where do you get yours from?    It's been such a long time since I messed with Linux outside certain server editions.

@retro junkie - I hear what you mean.  I like tinkering with many things... including web technologies.  It's been a long time since I have been able to do that as well.... life has been super busy.    I miss doing that at times.     That's funny you mentioned puppy Linux.  It's been a LONG time since I've heard that.

lol I See @retro junkie ... so you don't download... compile...etc.  That's cool though.   I need to install a vm or something of Linux.   I work with Linux (or Linux derivatives) servers at work.  I'm getting more and more experience with them.

Do you do anything command line based?  Or just stay in the Gui?

The Grappling hook is pretty fun... that's a good addition.  How is the high stakes mode?  Is it pretty fun?

I love sticking a sticky bomb on the face of some players.   One time a teammate kept trolling and shooting me... so I ran up to them and put a stick bomb on their face.  It was pretty funny.  Friendly Fire was off... so there's no Team killing.  It was funny though.  No one has done that to me - yet... so I wonder if the person could see the sticky bomb on their face in their field of view lol  :))

@CreepinDeth I still use Windows 7, 8.1, and 10 lol... Windows 8.1 was a sigh in the Windows line.  It's like that with Windows ME, and Windows 8.1.  I would say that about Windows Vista... but it was basically Windows 7 after Service Pack 2 and got rid of the suck.

@retro junkie That's cool - I really haven't used Linux much for the "user / gamer" side of computers.  I've used it for servers and what-not.  I'd like to throw it on a test machine.  Where did you get your OS... Download...etc?

@CreepinDeth I thought the cell companies went to a "leasing" platform.  I use quotes because it's not exactly a leasing platform... but you can turn your cell phone in and get a new one after 1-2 years (depending on terms)... and therefore it changed who technically "owns" the phone.   I'm still looking into this... because it appears "lock status" of a phone is still the same. You can still buy unlocked phones outright... but without the 2 year contract, you technically do not "own the phone" and therefore the rights of the phone itself have changed - Not so much in your day-to-day use... but more on the data side.

I'm still researching this.. it struck interest in me after cell companies left the contract style agreement.  Maybe the above isn't correct, but from what I initially read... it appeared cell companies had more control over certain aspects since they are technically "leased and turned in" after the user is odne with them.

I'm still under the mindset of not upgrading.  With that... I ended up purchasing a Dell G5 15" laptop for gaming on the go and a few other reasons right now.  It's working out pretty well.  I definitely have the building bug.

So you think prices are coming down well?  Maybe I jumped the gun and should've waited.

You should post your build - when you decide to do one.  And yes, adding Ram (up to 16GB) should be noticed with newer operating systems and Chrome / Firefox.  Chrome is especially eats a lot if you use many tabs.  Really.. 8GB should be the LOWEST you would go on a work PC (64Bit)... and standard should now be set at 16GB.

I like Trans-Siberian Orchestra... They have some pretty cool songs.  I like Mephistopheles Return.... Wizards in Winter is probably one of my favorites from Trans-Siberian.

I love a nice STEELBOOK... but that's another topic and another time.   I noticed Shadow of the Tomb Raider coming out very soon... and it peaked my interest.  Has anyone else see anything on this game good or bad?  I'm thinking of pre-ordering the early version... why?  Just Because... and I'm hoping the title turns out to be awesome.  Sometimes I buy games to try them out before I hear anything on them.

Look at this STEELBOOK (Image take from Marketing Materials at Amazon.com):

Hopefully it looks like that... but that is one nicely designed STEELBOOK.

Thoughts?  Comments?  Post it up!

Who has bought this game?  I bought it.... I know @SpartanEvolved, @targetrasp , @trkorecky  and @Strubes were looking into this title (probably @CreepinDeth and @Kinikko as well.

While I wish there were multiplayer features, this is a pretty fun beat-em-up style game.  Some call it the Arkham Asylum of the Spider-Man world.  There are talks about this being the best Spider-Man game ever made.  I have to agree with this statement.

Now that this game as been launched, what are your impressions?   Post up your comments on Spider-Man for the PlayStation 4.
