I pulled out my copy of Gates of Zendocon. For some reason I had another game in my mind. But I remembered this one when I started playing. It has a lot of hidden things that I had forgot about until I started playing. For me the game still holds up, but that is to be expected with me because I enjoy the gameplay from that period of gaming. But then again this game has a lot going for it. There is some strategy involved plus with the bonus hidden areas to discover. Even though it is one of those repetitive gameplay in each stage sort of games with high score being your goal, I still find this arcade like. And that is what I enjoy. This is an Epyx game. The console and a lot of the games were originally designed by Epyx and sold to Atari. The owners of Atari at the time were clueless when it came to gaming. That is why the Lynx and the Jaguar sunk.

Looks like I am returning to NCIS. I started this past weekend. I only watch up to 13 seasons. The team broke up after that. The main karisma of actors, one by one, left the show at this point. There was that team of people that I enjoyed watching and then poof, gone. Just did not feel right, Gibbs just did not carry it for me. He needed those other actors to play off of. Tony added lot to the show.

I am also watching Space 1999. It really reflects the 70's type corny cinema made for TV type stuff. Wished they had a bigger budget thoughts go through your mind while watching.

I am happy that I have a Chevy Volt. I can use the battery to drive around our small town.

Now we have a war going on that has caused a surge in crude oil prices. There is fear of a disruption in global energy supplies. Hold on for another round of price hikes!

@BLUEVOODU there was a kit floating around ebay which included everything needed.

I would but, being that I have been using Apple stuff for that last bunch of years, what I have is some old 32bit computers. I just this week found a LINUX Mint 19.2 that was their last 32bit and put it on my old Lenovo laptop. I have ordered a battery that should be here by Monday. Thought I would fire it up and use it for a while.

Thanks for the Birthday wishes!! And as usual this old man, 67 years old today, has a retro haul.
Looks to be six Famicom, one Super Famicom, and one Wii game. The Wii game, Lost in Shadows is a very good game. I have wanted it ever since I saw a MetalJesus review on youtube. It reminds be a lot of ICO for the Playstation. Same feel. I loved that game.

There are a lot of variables at play here in our economy. When you shut down everything and people continue to purchase items that are not being, manufactured, built, etc. Whatever was stored in a warehouse as stock will, at some point, become depleted. Factories, i know factories, that is where I have spent my career in, have warehouses that they pull from and that is where they determine their production schedules. When those places become empty and the place they received parts from, that they used to build their parts, become empty, and follow that all the way down the line. When you create incentives for people to stay at home and not go to work then that creates a shortage in the work force. Our local economy has tons of jobs but the factories are finding it very hard to hire anyone. One factory I know of has a job fair every Saturday, and sometimes only about two or three people may show up. Throw into that whole mess the closure of that oil pipeline that could have put our nation into a position to be independent of other nations for our oil. You have now the ever increasing price of gasoline and other energy sources in our country, it is hard to recover with just those elements involved. Not counting the ripple effect from those things alone, prices will climb and I hope we peek at a certain point, soon. In a consumer economy, we stopped the train, and I am not sure what it will take to get it moving again. I know it will take a long time before it seems normal again. I am surprised that we have not had more of a food shortage. And we may not have ran this thing out yet, the ripple effect. I have watched certain things in my local grocery store increase a dollar within a weeks time, crazy.

Ford has yet to hit the EV car monster that could bury them in the coming years.

You do know that "retro" is there in my name, right?  :)) I have a tradition, I guess you can call it that. Each year for Christmas we have in our decorations these LED candles that use AA batteries. After Christmas when the decorations come down I have all these AA batteries pulled from those candles. What do I do with all of these batteries? I pull out my Atari LYNX and burn those batteries up. I, right now, have the LYNX at my feet in its bag under my coffee table with a bag of batteries. I have been playing Stun Runner and Robotron. Back in the day I had three Atari LYNX and the wires to link them together and three copies of Warbirds. I would carry them over to someone's house and engage everyone in a session of Warbirds. Those were the days.  :(
I still have two of those LYNX. And I do still have all of my games. Even though the graphics were very blocky, it was a powerful little console for its time. I will pull out Gates of Zendocon and revisit that game today.

@BLUEVOODU yeah I got one of those.

So disappointed this was a season FINALE...  Happy it's only a season finale... but these shows (IE Hawkeye, Loki, and Boba Fett) could EASILY have been extended 2-3 more shows.
It is not like they are under any type of time restraints, like a normal network TV program. They could have had the finale go 90 minutes. The episodes could be the length needed to tell that particular chapter of the story, like a book.

I have ended up with mixed feelings about the series as a whole so far.

@BLUEVOODU it seems like I have so many games that I have purchased over the years that I never got to play, real life interrupted, by the time I had time, a new console would be released. Then I would be hyped over it, the cycle continued, over and over. Now that I am retired,.......hmmmmm....looks like retro gaming is here to stay. I have plenty to keep me occupied. I have started not to even think about new stuff. I have plenty of old stuff that is new to me.  :))

General Discussion / Re: The Book of Boba Fett

There was a trilogy of books, which were considered canon, about Boba Fett published following the original three movies. In them he did escape from that pit and went about being Boba Fett. He did not die. That Boba Fett is not the Disney Boba Fett. Disney has made Boba Fett in their own image with this series. I am feeling that way about a lot of stuff that Disney does. The whole Star Wars franchise is made into the Disney image, at least everything that they have touched and created.
The Bounty Hunter Wars trilogy of Star Wars books published by Bantam.

General Discussion / Re: Eternals

@CreepinDeth the movie did a good job of making me understand both sides of the ethical issue. I am not sure even now who was right and who was wrong. I keep leaning one way and then the other. Did the Eternals make the right choices? That caused me to debate in my mind the issues and the consequences of both actions. That was an unexpected element brought to a movie that made it appealing and thought provoking.

General Discussion / Re: Eternals
January 15, 2022, 09:14:40 AM
I finally sat down and watched this movie. A part of my dissatisfaction in the movie is that the Eternals are a hard sell, at least to me. Even though I grew up a MARVEL fan with my head in their comics. The Eternals is just that part of the MARVEL universe that are just unfamiliar to me, and I am a Jack Kirby fan. It could be that I left comics behind when I entered the workforce in 1973. It is possible that I stopped reading comics a couple of years before. The Eternals appeared in the comics about 1976, so I missed them, I was into girls at that point, married in 1977.
When it comes to Captain America, Black Widow, The Avengers, Fantastic Four, Dr Strange, Spiderman, etc, those are characters that i grew up with. I knew who they were, nostalgic, familiar, childhood buddies, I was ready to see my heroes on the big screen. I knew who they were, icons of American youth culture of yesterday.
Enter the Eternals and there is no connection, no emotion, I don't know who these people are, can't get their names straight. And the movie, I feel, did not help me much in that aspect. And I am not sure what they could have done different. The movie was one of "those movies" in which you have to watch the full movie before you form your opinion. And thinking back over this whole montage it is a big dislike and a big like, for me, sort of mixed feelings I guess. I like it and I don't like it.

Knowing Disney's track record when it comes to the Star Wars franchise, I did not look forward to watching this. And I had no intentions of viewing. But this post stirred my curiosity.

First episode, I quickly realized that this is not the Boba Fett of the original trilogy. Just isn't him. This is a take on the character. Okay I get that, we will give it a chance. I am glad I waited until there was a second episode. Even though I liked how the story started, I just did not like the first episode. I am not going to go into what I did not like because that would be spoilers. But the second episode I got into it. I felt it was good and it made me  want to see more. To me this series has an overall better production value than the Mandalorian. Sorry but the Mandalorian just did not click with me.

For some reason there is just something about the story telling in some of the Disney original series that just does not satisfy or rubs me the wrong way. For example, that first Boba Fett episode just did not feel complete.

We have not seen it. And my Family and I will not go to our local theatre to see it simply because it is a very trashy place to watch a movie, sticky floors etc. But we are looking forward to seeing this and I will probably put in a preorder for the DVD. It is supposed to come out in March. Streaming will be next year, not going to wait. I think this movie and the Dr Strange movie will be the movies to watch in the phase four of the MCU. At least that is what we are looking for.

MCU writing off the Netflix series really sucks, Punisher and Daredevil was awesome.
Can they really do that being that they have this multiverse thing going on right now? I mean everything would be acceptable now, Right?

General Discussion / Re: Happy New Year!

Happy New Year!!!

My New Years resolutions: Keep my eyes closed during a roller coaster ride, don't leave my crayons in the sun, use dental floss every day, don't throw trash on the ground when you are walking on Mars, don't spill hydrochloric acid on my shoes, always knock before entering a barn, don't let dinosaurs get in the sugar, never volunteer to do any extra dental work, always get my seat before the cat does, eat more chocolate, and feed my stomach whenever it's hungry.

New Years day was very bad. We had a bad storm go through with what is thought to be a tornado touched down in town. The excessive heavy rain was overwhelming. My gutters could not handle it and they overflowed running into my basement. I had to get and set up several sump pumps, which I did have on hand. At the same time there is a drain that comes out at the end of the driveway that is a drain for my basement. The mud had stopped this up. I was out there, in the rain, trying to dig that out and sliding all over the place in the mud, it was all up and down my leg, man. If your wife ever picks up a rain poncho somewhere because it was on sale, think providence. Because several years later you may need it, as was our case.  :)) I had the water out by about midnight and was able to get my furnace going.

My Family and I decided that January 1st was not New Years day. We would like to forget that day. We chose Sunday as New Years day even though it was the 2nd.  8)

Hope everyone has had a very Happy New Year!!!  :))

I have not heard much about the PS5. I really haven't expressed the interest in checking out any information related to the console. The PS3 is as far as I have reached into the SONY camp. So, not having a PS4, and never was tempted, I am not sure what the PS5 is all about at this point. Other than it is hard to get one. So I guess it is up to the hype to convince me why I absolutely need one. Until then my money stays into retro gaming.  :)) And I am not a fan of loading my game into internal or external storage. It sounds like the technology has exceeded the capacity of disk drives. Do we need to go back to having carts the size of Neo Geo AES carts?

Don't get me wrong. I have always enjoyed every SONY console that I own. Money becomes an issue on all this new stuff. When nobody wants the old hardware and it sets used, if there are games that catch my interest, and it is cheap to get into, I buy.

My game haul. Not that anyone would understand.  :))

I got "Popeye" for the Famicom. It is an arcade game from those early days. Fun game for anyone who likes that sort of stuff. (Spent some time with this.)
Two Wii games,
Thor and Overlord: Dark Legend

Two Wii U games,
Splatoon and Minecraft Story Mode (Played with Splatoon and now I understand why this could be a winner.)

Also got a Gamboy advance multi cart loaded with 800 of the original Gameboy games. (I have spent most of my time with this cart using my GBA SP.)
My Wife also got me an Anbernic RG 280M handheld gaming system. It is full of emulators from the Atari 2600 up to the PS1. IPS screen and (cough) loaded with games (cough). All retro gaming here. It is where I am and from the way it looks it is where I am grounded.

My newest consoles is the Switch lite and the XBOX 1. Not sure if I will ever move past those. I recently pulled out my PS3 and hooked it up but have yet to play anything. I am more into NES 8bit right now.

Hope everyone had a good Christmas Holiday. It has been good here.
