General Discussion / Re: Black Panther Movie
March 05, 2018, 12:40:15 AM
Well, a couple of things. I have a few friends who use it religiously and have said it works great for them so that's the main reason I got it to begin with. Some things I've heard and some things I know:

  • I've heard that the main reason they do this is to gather movie-watching data to eventually sell to marketing firms. Who knows.
  • When I was reading the stipulations, it sounds like we are almost put on some sort of list for the movie we choose to see. Then, we have to check in 30 minutes before the movie. There was something written that if the movie is full, we may not get in. I don't know if any of you are familiar with aviation rules, but it almost sounds like a "standby" list where you only get in when it doesn't sell out. So you are basically taking seats that would have (theoretically) been empty anyway. Part of why they probably get away with being so cheap.
  • You can't see any 3D or IMAX-type movies (makes sense).
  • We've had some questions about activation and I can confirm that their customer service is not great.
  • You can see one movie a day (as long as it's not one of those 3D or IMAX ones).

I'm not sure how much the theaters are involved with this, but if they are working with MoviePass to provide a discount, I imagine it's not a huge loss if they are giving away seats that are otherwise unsold while making ridiculous money off concessions.

Sorry to derail the Black Panther topic. It's still on my list to see but probably going to be a couple more weeks with how my schedule has been. :(

I started up my Phantasy STar ONline account with MAster Mario lol... and he gave me some money.

Haven't done much outside that in PSOBB... yet.

We better friggin play dude!

Been playing a little of that and some Starcraft 2 (Mafia custom games). Also a little PUBG and Dying Light. Dying Light is friggin hard. More of a chore than a game haha.

Who owns and plays on the Xbox One?    What are your thoughts on the system?  If you have a Playstation 4 and Switch... what are you thoughts on the XBONE versus those systems?

Post it up!

I made a strategic decision to not buy into Xbox One... this is because I am working to buy a bit less and have less of a pool of games to play.  Since all companies (Nintendo, Microsoft, and Sony) are charging for their online service... I don't want to pay for all 3.

Unfortunately, I left the XBOX to the side.

No wonder you have so many posts...responding to yourself. Tsk tsk.

I've got the Xbone and have had it for a while. Mostly got it for Destiny even though I only played it for 10 hours or so and never came back (because my friends beat it without me over one weekend I was gone and anyone who knows me knows I rarely play single player campaigns haha).

Now I play it for NHL18 and Battlefront 2 (even though you can play them on other systems) and I have Halo 5 but haven't busted into that yet either.

Haven't seen it yet but want to. Holding out till my MoviePass thing shows up in the mail so I can use it (if you haven't heard of it, it's that thing where you pay like $10/month and you get to see 1 movie a day for free).

LOL... well... some of the amazon ones are based on search history... SOOOOOOOooooooo.   :D

I'm pretty sure Amazon is pushing ads from your search history because it was showing desk lamps and IU polos.

Put it in the forums or no more birthday topics for you!

Check EGA.

Thank you both. :)

Loser! (La-Hooo Sa-Her) / Unbeatable Games
February 22, 2018, 11:14:34 PM
Spartan and I are usually pretty good at powering through even the crappiest, hardest co-op games. But, there are two co-op games we gave up on and I don't believe we were even on the hardest difficulty on either one.

Game 1: Perfect Dark Zero.  I'm pretty sure we weren't even playing the hardest difficulty, we were playing the second hardest (Perfect Agent IIRC). The checkpoints were ridiculous, the AI was extremely smart, and our weapons were terrible. I think we got to level 12 or 13 on this difficulty (out of 14) and quit. Never going back, but I'll never forget how terrible this was.

Game 2: Command & Conquer 4. We'd played C&C games for years but this one was impossible. There were parts of C&C: Red Alert 3 that were frustrating and near impossible, but we got about 2 or 3 levels into C&C4 and quit. Not only were the missions hard, but I think the gameplay itself was rough and different than other C&C games. I'd like to try this again someday (especially since I don't think there have been any C&C games since), but I'd have to be pretty bored haha.

Anyone else come across games you'd consider "unbeatable", or at least unbeatable in their harder difficulties?

What if the servers are still running in 20 years? I don't think this would be a good metric to consider something retro or not but that's just me. PS3 servers are being shut down more quickly than 360. Hell, there are some current gen servers that are being shut down now and people are pretty pissed about that.

Well, I don't think there's currently a lot of precedence for something like that to happen. I think we've typically seen that once the console developer decides it's not worth it to keep the servers up due to lack of interest, they're pretty good about turning them off. We'll see some third party servers pop up after that, but once the manufacturers give up on it I take that as a pretty good sign that those console's time is done.

Obviously there are exceptions for some classic games like the original Starcraft, but those are more one-offs.

I don't know if there is a right answer to this question though haha. I just don't feel like the 360 is old enough to be retro because I was still playing it 5 years ago.

Happy Birthday, Retro!!

FYI...I didn't get a birthday topic on the 10th when mine rolled around so I'm going to remember that.

Spartan would know better, but I wonder if it's possible to link to a Discord page or something. Discord is more and more popular each day.

Speaking of SNES... I'm breaking out UN Squadron.  It's one of my favorite SNES games.

Prove it!

I don't consider these three systems retro. Anything before that, I would. I mean, hell, the Xbox 360 game servers are still running.

I don't mind them.

Apparently :)

Sometimes I'll play the standard puzzle games like Candy Crush to kill time, but usually I'll download an emulator onto my S7 and play some old school Nintendo games. Mario Party, Mario Golf, Mario RPG, Pokemon, whatever. Most things run pretty well. Usually you can run pretty much every N64 game or older pretty easily but I haven't really found a good GC emulator yet. Controls can be tough when joysticks are heavily used in game but I did buy a Bluetooth controller I never use haha.
#261
Done. My only issue was that apparently I never had a Steam profile set up so it took me about an hour to figure out how to do it haha.

You wanted more members so I went and posted the link to this forum all over Facebook and Reddit, thought you wouldn't mind.

I believe you are correct. That was a good run. Solid game, too.

A Winner Is You / Halo Achievement Accomplishments
February 12, 2018, 02:48:30 AM
I feel like a couple of my biggest video game accomplishments were some friggin tough "Vidmaster Challenge" achievements in various Halo games. Most of them were completed with some help of EGA members haha. Each one of these took several hours of intense focus and lots of retries. Here are a few of the hardest:

Vidmaster Challenge: Annual (Halo 3)
After 9/25/08, completed Halo on 4-player Legendary LIVE co-op, with Iron, and everyone in Ghosts.
Only 2.66% of gamers unlocked this
Unlocked 12/28/2008

Vidmaster Challenge: Déjà Vu (Halo 3: ODST)
Completed Highway on 4-player Legendary LIVE co-op, with Iron, and no 'Hog or Scorpion.
Only 4.92% of gamers unlocked this
Unlocked 12/28/2009

Vidmaster Challenge: Endure (Halo 3: ODST)
In Firefight, on any mission, passed the 4th Set on 4-player Heroic LIVE co-op.
Only 3.84% of gamers unlocked this
Unlocked 5/11/2010

Any mission with Iron skull is already tough because any time someone in the party dies, the game sends everyone back to the last checkpoint.  It takes a lot of teamwork to make sure that everyone survives it.

The Endure one, I think, was probably the hardest of the three. 4 sets is a lot of sets because I believe there were 6 rounds in each set and they all got progressively harder. There'd be snipers, vehicles, invisible Elites, etc. You're given a limited number of lives. I still think it's pure luck that we got this one.

I believe Mega and Strubes helped out with at least one or two of these and I think SpartanEvolved was with me on all three. What also sucked is that the achievements were not actually worth any achievement points, so there isn't a lot to show for the hours and hours we spent unlocking these haha.

Nothing really changed since last week. NHL 18 and PUBG really. Although I've played a lot of these lately so I'm starting to look around for other things (good campaigns, not really multiplayer).

Why don't we just keep one topic on this going instead of a new one every week? lol
#268
SpartanEvolved hates it, but I always try to land as far away from the flight path as I can to loot and keep heading away from the flight path if possible. If you get a good circle, you may have a good flanking position on anyone else on the map since you are coming from an extreme side of it (not to mention you also have good loot).

The downside is you could also be absolutely screwed by the circle, but you still normally get good loot anyway. But there aren't a lot of early battles when you do this.
#269
I still haven't beaten the original campaign. That last mission is friggin impossible.
#270
I've got it. Only game is Mario Odyssey which is pretty good. Not really aware of everything that can be done with the Switch in general. Looking for more decent games for it.
