She is still hogging it and trying to get 100% items in Bloodstained!

When Renee has not been hogging my main gaming PC playing Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, I revisited a handful of games.

Star Wars: Republic Commando still seems like such an awesome game, but some of those fights on Genosis just kill my team too much.

Portal is so classic and so good.  I just revisited the last test, the escape, and the cake!

I played a few rounds of Team Fortress 2 and Half-Life 2: Deathmatch (source and regular).

I also put about two hours into Ori and the Blind Forest and about forty minutes to Halo: Spartan Strike.

Outside of the Spring Cleaning event, I played a few hours of Final Fantasy XIII-2 on the PS3.  I also did a bit in Skyrim Special Edition on Steam just to break in the EVGA RTX2060 KO graphics card that I installed a few weeks ago.

That looks so amazing!

I had written off this generation of consoles as one to skip, mostly since many of the games were available on PC.  Exclusives like this one are what are going to keep consoles going though!

With something like Left 4 Dead a few years ago, I could get a party of 4-8 people from my friends list into a game and either compete against friends or with friends against others.

In something like Warzone, even with some people that I know, it is still vs 150 other people.  In any game of Warzone, there are 150 losers, 3-4 winners.  The game just makes me feel like I suck every time I bother loading it.

I greatly prefer games where there is some growth.  In COD, earning all of the guns and attachments often does not give any tangible advantage vs someone who just picked up the game.  It is all twitch reflexes.  Trying to think strategy just seems to get me killed.

TL; DR: The game just annoys me even after six months of really trying to get into it.

you know... I really want to pick this up @Mai Valentine   I tell you... I missed it the 1st time around... I played it a bit when I had the shop and would watch friends play it as well.  However, I never really did own it.    With the remake, I'm looking to buy this at some point.

So you think this game is worth it?  How about time to play... does it take a lot of time investment?

I figure @Grindspine @targetrasp and maybe @Jack would be very interested in this.  Maybe @retro junkie as well.

I would like to get it, but was saving for my wedding & reception, which Renee and I have had to postpone due to COVID.

Thus, I do not have a PS4 yet.  If it is released on PC I will get it.  But I am still firmly in the PS2/PS3/PSP generation of consoles.  Speaking of which, I really need to play through Final Fantasy XIII-2!

The design itself is great, but I'm not wild about that color scheme. Where is my all black controller?  :))

Quoted since I cannot reply with a big thumbs up!

My nephew was saying, "I promise you will hate the new controller."  He was wrong.  I have been a fan of Sony PlayStation controllers since the PSone iteration.  If it ain't broke...don't fix it!  Sony has pretty much done everything right from day one.

My only comment on that controller is that the colors are essential!

After months of playing the game, I still don't get the appeal.

QuoteThe company has been unable to provide adequate cleaning supplies to employees,

So up until they closed, it was business as usual at GameStop.  Any use disks were so grimy from unwashed child hands that I avoided buying games from them long before now.

My job in a pathology lab is business as usual over the last week.  We expect to see far fewer elective surgeries in the coming two weeks though.

Every since thrift stores stopped accepting CRTs as donations I've not been able to run down a good CRT. I had a 36" Sony Trinitron that lasted forever that was perfect for gaming. I've been keeping an eye out for a big WEGA or a broadcast monitor but nothing yet. At this point I don't know that I'd have a place to put it! I do miss those virtua cop, house of the dead, lethal enforcers, TIME CRISIS kind of games

I still have my 27" WEGA and will keep it 'til it dies!

This weekend, Renee and I found a stored Saturn at her mom's house.  Some of you might remember DeathMonkeyOmega on Steam; he is Renee's brother and left his Saturn there!  I think we are going to have to adopt it!

I remember Quake III being awesome on the Saturn, or was it the DreamCast?  Apparently there was also a version of Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, relabeled as Noctourne in the Moonlight, that had additional levels compared to the PlayStation version.

Those Sega systems are a bit blurred in my memory.  As far as light gun games go, seek out an old Sony WEGA for the best in CRT gaming! :D

General Discussion / Re: Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker

There is just so much material in the Star Wars cannon now.  I am glad that The Mandolorian is happening.  The Clone Wars and Rebels are my favorite parts of the series currently since both series really give time to appreciate stories within the universe.

IDk... @Grindspine I mean... generally once you get above 60fps... I don't think it matters as much.  Definitely if are lower than 60 versus 60 and above... there's a distinct advantage.  But 120-240 fps?  I'm not sure there's really an advantage.

what do you think @trkorecky @Polygon @Jack ?

Did you watch the video?  The evidence presented is pretty convincing that there is an advantage with higher frame rates for casual, hardcore, and pro gamers.

This video is eSports cheese from DOTA, StarCraft, Counter-Strike, and even RuneScape going back for years of high level cheese!

Loser! (La-Hooo Sa-Her) / Modern Warfare

This article is echoing my thoughts on the game.

Destroyed tonight 17 to 2 in my last game.  I had to walk away at that point.  There is no victory to be had.

Retro Gaming and Hardware / Re: Borrowed meme for PS2

The PS2 works great with those Monster component cables that were sold early in the PS3's cycle.  Many people do not know that the PS2 and PS3 had the same analog output.  Similarly, the GameCube Monster S-video cables work great for the SNES!

PS3 really was when 3D games had matured.  PS2 definitely had some blocky graphics, but still had an amazing library.  It was the first system to really offer backwards compatibility and CD/DVD player.

The PS2 is still one of my favorite systems.  The SNES, PS2, PS3, and PC have gotten more game play time than the other systems I have owned.  On a side note, my PS3 runs cooler since it is a slim 160 GB model.  I did eventually upgrade to a 240 GB SSD though!

That would be awesome, as would an N64 Classic mini or an Atari Jaguar mini!

That is  the review that I am looking for. Someone here that has it. I want their impressions.

I am glad that you got one, Retro!

Renee and I have played it a bit here and there, same with the NES Classic and SNES Classic.  It is nice that the three share the HDMI connector and the micro USB power.  All three are fun to have without feeling like a huge investment or like they are too bulky.

On one 46" Sanyo HDTV, I can have all three of those, my PS3, my Xbox 360, and my original Xbox simultaneously!

Also, Altered Beast is still awesome.

PC Rigs, Builds, and Peripheral Devices / Re: Mouse?
January 07, 2020, 06:58:16 PM
I am using the Proteus Spectrum with my desktop PC and the Hyperion Fury with the Asus TUF laptop for the time.

The G5 really was perfection for a gaming mouse for me for the longest time.

There were a few things that I would have done differently, but, it did a good job of tying the loose ends from The Last Jedi and went a long way to correcting complaints many had about that movie.

It was solid.  I especially like the array of light sabers that make appearances in the movie.  >:D

As much as I have seen the MCU movies, this is one that I have not seen yet.

From what I understand, The 2008 Hulk and Iron Man 3 are the two movies that can be skipped where you still get the full MCU build up to Avengers: Infinity Wars and End Game.

General Discussion / Re: Merry Christmas!

So I had bought an Asus TUF laptop for Renee as an early Christmas present back on Black Friday.

Today she gave me Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask for the 3DS since those were two that I had not gotten yet.
#298
Nier was and is awesome!  Since then I did get Modern Warfare, which you know.

I did get Renee an Asus Tuf laptop as well!
#299
My fiancĂ© has been using a half-broken laptop for a year, so I convinced her that a solid gaming laptop was a good idea.  We decided on getting her an Asus Tuf with a Ryzen proc and GTX 1650 graphics card.  Of course, the condition was that I would get to borrow it sometimes.  >:D

There were many Thanksgiving and Christmas nights that Bluevoodu, SpartanEvolved, MasterMario, and I would get together for some LAN gaming.  Good times!  With three of us moving from the area, it is harder to do LAN and more about online play.
