Retro Gaming and Hardware / Re: Evercade

Just got mine in today and its about as I expected. Nothing about the console is amazing but nothing is terrible either. The cartridges fit so tight at first you'll think you're putting them in wrong. The games are a great mix of stuff that you've probably already owned / emulated but come at a great price point for physical editions. I didn't buy it to play (although I did open a few carts and play around for a while) and I feel like anyone who does will likely be underwhelmed. I bought it for its collectability. Its cool and retro looking, the games are priced well, and I'm sure there's not going to be a ton of these floating around. I already cant figure out how to get the Namco collections or the Lynx collection, and my goal is a complete collection. I may even rebuy the carts that I opened just so I have a sealed complete collection. I do want it to thrive and games to continue to be released for it, I just don't think anyone other than collectors will truly enjoy this.

That's way too big of a gap to not be manufactured. The out critic out of touch with mainstream argument holds with games like Death Stranding (82 meta critic 7.2 user), where there is an obvious gap, but nothing miles apart.

Its all about trolling. The more sensitive we become to social issues the more ammo trolls have. The anonymity the internet allows (seems odd to say) gives the cowardly an outlet to take out their anger and frustrations without any real repercussions. These guys latch on to things that they can get the most reaction out of on the biggest stage. Internet trolls getting a mention in a Forbes article...

so was dream team bad? I've got the special edition 3ds that came with it but never really had an interest in playing it, guess i didn't miss much.

yard sales have been hard to find with Covid fears, but I was able to get out to a few this last weekend and found some great stuff.

15 old school computer games and pristine copies of the lord of the rings dvds with those collectors cards in tack for 19 bucks (darkseed 2 and a ton of stars wars and star trek stuff was in there)

a 2ds in box for 20, a ds lite for 10, and a ton of ds and 3ds games for 2 bucks each. I found some mario games i was missing, pokemon x and y, and mario party ds

Most of the ds stuff is going (or already is on ebay) but I didn't have mario party ds, pokemon x, mario kart 7 in the red box, mario ds, and mario party ds, so they'll make their way into the collection. I'm still not sure what to do with the old school computer games but there's some cool stuff, star wars galaxies and darkseed would be fun to revisit.

the addition of that back piece did make the power and hdmi cable attachment a little odd.

That's so strange you mentioned Mario Party DS, I just bought a ds / 3ds collection last Saturday and it was one of the games I'm going to keep. I've yet to play it but your review just helped move it up the list.

You dig it because of that sequence where he cuts a flippin tree down with his sword...

I gotta go with his rival Ukyo - blue looks sweet on those

I think Picard is great. Stewart is elderly and has lost a step but I like seeing what happened to JLP after his tenure on the Enterprise. Outside of the titular character, Picard doesn't feel recycled. Retro's sentiment is accurate in that Picard is heavily reliant on nostalgia, especially in getting viewers invested into the main character, Picard as a show is shot different, told different, and not that cheesy soap opera that Star Trek continually leans toward. I like the dark element (although I don't find it all that dark) and the fact it somehow manages to keep the heart that embodies Star Trek. While the review sites put it somewhere in the high 70% low 80's, critically 90% of the viewers like it. It's not a masterpiece but it's a great story with room to grow, as long as Stewart can keep going.

I put together a retro pie a few raspberries ago just to play around and it was pretty cool. It was a bit touchy at times and i was more annoyed than i thought i'd be that it didn't have an on/off switch or a shutdown command. I've heard the new version is pretty awesome, especially with the modding community localizing stuff, making translation patches, etc.

I still bump up against the legality of it all... It'd be awesome just to google a title, download an iso or a rom or a bin, pop it onto a usb and play, instead there's all this copyright law, and debate whether or not I'm allowed to circumvent protection to back up items i own. It's been a while since I've kept paid attention to the emulation scene, so it may be different now.

I don't find any fault with the display, its not translating the Japanese games that tick my off.. Snatcher and most of the others are unplayable

The snes mini is still my favorite but the tg 16 is a solid tie with the genesis one.

I tried out a bunch of the games right off the bat. The emulation works great. I've played an hour of Soldier Blade, an hour of Alien Crush, and an hour of Millitary Madness. Millitary Madness didn't age as good as it could have. I think Advance Wars took it down about 12 notches. Still fun, still challenging, just aged. Soldier Blade is just as awesome as i rememeber, but alien crush! I hadn't played pinball in a long time and it scratched an itch. I wasn't expecting much for it but its been my favorite so far.

sounds like retro has the corona blues!

Seriously though I'm there too. The price point is rough to start with and accounting for the modules you're getting into gaming computer territory... I will say, after sprawling out all my retro mini consoles it would be nice to have something that'd play everything and not take up so many hdmi and power plug spaces...

mine shows arriving tomorrow!! Hopefully that don't change

lol - no joke. i've not unwrapped half the switch games i've bought yet..
#286
not really dark but for star trek its a little dim...

I was shocked today when i drove through downtown and saw tons of people out and almost no masks. Kilwins had a line down the street and everyone was on top of each other.

Just keeping in line with the Star Trek recommendations - Picard is awesome, and i'm not a huge Star Trek fan. The episode was free so i watched it then got CBS all access to get to watch the rest.

After i finish up the Seal Team episodes that i missed i'll have to check out Discovery. if it's as good as Picard i'll blow right through them.

Sweet, i'm really excited

Happy Birthday - Hope its wonderful

I preordered the purple one from Game Stop after watching this youtube video

I can't say it's going to be good buy Tommy Tallerico is so passionate and able to answer almost every concern i could have. The family friendly stuff is a limiting factor for sure, but i think this could go well and at least is collectible.

The older i get the less i can play of these types of games BUT getting a group of friends together, muting everyone but your friends or your party, and just playing to play makes it palatable, almost as much as it used to be before mortgages, marriages, kids, pandemics, having to watch the news, etc.

Its still frustrating at times, infuriating at times, but if you go into it with an IDGAF mindset and just have fun its great times in small to medium doses.

PS3 ONLY survived the 7th generation because ps plus was free, the later stage console exclusive (uncharted, metal gear solid, god of war...) and the price did finally come down. PLus costs, ps5 is gonna cost more, and if there's a shortage scalping will likely drive things up even harder. I'm going off memory (so i'm porbably wrong) but once you adjust for inflation no system over the 500 dollar mark did well. Here's looking at you Neo Geo, CDI, 3d0, Saturn, ...

One message board online said they were selling them for some ungodly amount but when I called in they were discontinued. I think they're holding some back for warranty work and then shelving the whole thing. I've not seen these in stores for a while now. I guess the windows mixed reality thing just didn't make it.

There's some great pictures of the set on this link. You can see the goofy cable - hdmi on one side that splits into dport and usb 3 on the other. That's the cable I have that's broken. The dport connector split at the seam in the metal. I tried to use a probe and bend it back in place but it didn't work.

The other problem with these headsets lies in how the hdmi end of said cable plugs into the headset. There's a profile pic of the headset that shows a pig tail coming off of it. That square box on the end is hdmi port where that cable plug in. I actually had to send my headset to hp to have that fixed. wearing the headset and moving around puts tons of strain on that port. After time the hdmi plug wiggled around in the port so much the connection became lose. HP tried to tell me it was the cable but after sending tons of pictures they exchanged everything.

I had some fun with this over the weekend and am sure it'll work its way into the rotation for a while.

I've tried to love old Atari stuff but I just cant. Atari is neat to collect but it didn't age well. I can play centipede, space invaders, defender, pong, alleyway, dig dug, pac man, and a few more but only with some upgraded controls and visuals.
