General Discussion / Re: Tis the Season to be jolly
December 15, 2019, 02:44:09 PM
With Christmas proper being on a Wednesday, I have to work the day before and the day after.  I now live about two hours from most of my family, so I will not be seeing them this Christmas, though in years past I often had to work the holiday due to my job in healthcare.

This is going to be a very different year for the holiday.  I am unsure of what to expect.

Yeah I only play when I know I can dedicate several hours to it, as I end up usually playing about three or four hours worth at a time. I'm still on 2B's part and I accidentally advanced the story past a point where I can no longer do some of the sidequests, so I'll probably even go back to an earlier save and get them done before I move on.

When you finish all three story lines, you can then go back to any chapter to finish side quests and complete your item collecting!

Modern warfare PC version sets itself to high priority, often sourcing 100% of the CPU and causing other essential functions of the computer to not work.

from r/modernwarfare

The fix is apparently to manually reset the CPU process priority to normal on EVERY startup of the game.

I have having so many issues with paying full price for a game with this many PC issues. :(

I am not... I believe it was @Mai Valentine or @Aya-Kun that used to play this on the Console.

My guess is the game is a console port to PC.   I was looking into this game as well.. but haven't pulled the trigger.   $26+ is still a bit salty too me with a large backlog as it is.

You probably would not really play all the way through it, and it is a game that needs to be played ALL of the way through to really get it.  The first two parts of the game are similar play through campaigns with 2B and 9S.  The third "chapter" brings it together with the character A2.  It has a very complex story line, so it is not a game that you can just pick up and play for a few hours.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Steam is having their Autumn sale, consoles are hitting Black Friday pricing, and many of us will have some gaming time over the weekend!

I have an appointment at 1 pm, so I may be back this evening?  >:D

The game has some pretty low frame rates soon after loading.  Although my core i5 is well over the minimum specs, the sheer size of the game files are probably the cause there.

My frame rates were better with the sound card switch over.  The game was playable, though not nearly as smooth as some older FPS games that I have played on this setup.

We should do that this year too!

SoundBlaster X-fi cards are an issue.  My Logitech G933 Artemis also has the same crackling issues when running through the Logitech digital audio.

I managed to get it to work tonight with an old X-fi Go USB soundcard and an ancient Logitech analog headset.

Even after going through every audio and video setting, checking drivers, trying different headsets.  The audio is distorted enough to be confused with Tank Wars from the Atari 2600.  The game is pretty well unplayable for me at the moment.

I am having terrible framerate and audio issues in the game that make it nearly unplayable...

I just bought one for Renee for her birthday!

I did beat Nier: Automata for ending W.  Apparently, the game is made to be played through first as 2B, then a second time as 9S to fill out the story line.  Things seem familiar in the second play through of the game, but more detailed...

Nier is a really surreal game!

As much as I do like Castlevania and Final Fantasy soundtracks.  The Resident Evil (movie from a game) and Mortal Kombat (also movie from a game) soundtracks still stand out.

Lately I have been listening to some of the Nier: Automata soundtrack though.

Doom (2016) and the old PC game Descent II both had epic soundtracks.

Skyrim is so good as an ambient OST too..

Besides Legos, Transformers, and G.I. Joes, I cannot remember if the TMNT blimp was still eighties or if it was after 1990.

For pure eighties, the Dinobots win.

Nier: Automata!

Yesterday afternoon I was in my local GameXchange and had to purchase this game. Never had the NES version until now. I have played it on my multicarts but I really wanted the original. Best price I have found for this game, $12.99.

And this is dominating my game time this weekend.

The original is so good!  Exploring with no maps is so confusing at first.  Accomplishing beating the game, beating the game with all 255 missiles, then beating the game in speed run are great accomplishments.

I got to the point where I would pick up the GBA version when I had an hour to kill.  One hour, one life was my standard for playing and beating it back in my early college days.

Let's see.. I recently beat Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night...

The game is good.. really good.. A spiritual successor to Symphony of the Night is pretty accurate, although it has a strong dose of Aria of Sorrow and Order of Ecclesia Castlevania games as well.

I purchased and played through the first bit of Nier: Automata.  So far, I like it!  It is a great combo of shoot 'em up, platformer, and hack 'n slash gaming.

Last weekend I did get in a good dose of Overwatch with MasterMario and SpartanEvolved too!

Gaming / Movie / Media Deals / Nier Automata on Steam

Nier Automata is on sale on Steam for PC for 33% off at $26.79.

I read some reviews about the PC port not having 1080 resolution, but do not have a PS4 or Xbone.

Anyone familiar with the PC version of Nier?

It is my birthday today!  Happy birthday to me :exclamation:

I did beat Bloodstained: RotN.  That game is awesome.  I am currently working on Samus Returns on the 3DSXL as well.

I really have my eye on picking up Neir: Automata while it is on its Steam sale too.
#323
It is multi-system, Steam, Switch, PS4, and Xbone, so I do not know which category.

Renee has been taking over my PC to play it.  Since I sleep less than she does, I still beat it first though!  100% of rooms are found, but there are still several collections of items and masteries that I have not completed.

There is nothing quite like shooting giant robotic fish in space!!!!!
#325
I wrote this while way too tired and put it in the wrong category!

Anyway, finished the main story of the game last night after about 28 hours of gameplay.  I have nowhere near 100% on shards, items, or skill mastery, so there is still replay value there!

I have also not yet finished the 8-bit nightmare level!

#326
I folded pretty quickly and bought this one from Steam the day of release.  Although many have been calling it the spiritual successor to Castlevania's Symphny of the Night, it does really borrow heavily from more recent Castlevania games.

I see heavy influence from Aria of Sorrow, Order of Ecclesia, and graphical style reminiscent of the PSP's Dracula X Chronicles.  Miriam's shard collection is not far from Soma's souls or Shanoa's glyphs.  The weapon selection is similar to those titles as well.  There are many subtle references to earlier Castlevania games [spoiler](Avenge Trevor's Death, and Invert!)[/spoilder], but there are many fresh takes on older concepts.

So far, I really like it.  Renee has been playing the game almost as much as I have so far too!

SSDs are more expensive than traditional HDDs.  With no platter, they are faster, with both lower seek time and high transfer rate.  They are also more shock resistant.  On top of those advantages, an SSD runs cooler with lower power draw than traditional platter drives.

A hybrid drive is adding a small SSD as a cache for an HDD.  This will quickly dump information, for a slightly faster feel, but still lag behind a full SSD in overall performance.  This is similar to what some Windows platforms did with using a flash drive to speed up hard drive performance.  A hybrid drive has a snappier feel on some applications while being less expensive than a full SSD.

Since SSD drives are lower in price and higher in reliability than they were five years ago, I recommend skipping the hybrid and going straight for SSD.
