if their main schtick is to recreate the wii it'll be a complete failure. If motion control is a small part of the bigger picture, I can see it being fun. the controller does looks like a mash up of the dreamcast vmu, will remote, and intellivision's original.

I'd love to get behind retro's line of thinking but I have a more pessimistic view of our general population. A significant portion of our population is stupid and / or apathetic. We have to have laws concerning speeding, seat belts, drunk driving, drugs... How can we expect the general population to care for the safety of themselves as well as other? Whole families are out shopping with their kids. I could understand the case of a single parent with 0 support having to take their young kid to the store but I see entire families, mom, dad and the brood.

Now that the weather is nice, people have some unemployment money, people have some stimulus money - the places that are open stay packed. Home Depot and Lowes here stay full open to close, Walmart and every grocery store as well. The truncated hours many of these places are observing are not helping either. By shortening hours we're not spreading the crowd out over a longer period of time. Bringing every employee back as well as keeping shorter hours compounds this further.

I'm by no means a fan of big government making tons of laws and restrictions but I also think the public as a whole won't be cautious enough on their own. We wont have a vaccine available before we completely tank our economy so not opening is a bad play. I think we'd have to come up with a system of testing and treating / isolating / tracing then opening to make things come back as safe as possible. I do realize there's a lot of room for government involvement in that situation that could impede some civil liberties BUT if we do it to help and ensure help does occur without ostracizing the sick it would require far less government than the martial law scenario if this thing hits a large majority of the population.

Yeah same..

Maybe just maybe Covid-19 will reinvigorate the 3d headset craze and someone (either HP or some aftermarket company) starts putting out a replacement.

I can also see HP abandoning the design. I've sent it in for warranty repair early on (not for the cord) and I can see that issue happening again as well. Being tethered by a cord on something that encourages rapid movement creates tons of wear points that surprisingly have little in the way of strain relief. i'll prolly retire it and wait for a sale on the rift or vive.

I found out about this system last night. Late march preorders went out for a VIP Founder's edition in three different colors, white, black and woodgrain. It looks like preorders are closed at the intellivision website but gamestop has the white and the black version and an exclusive galaxy purple version for 249 (299 for the purple).

The president, Tommy Talarico, has been in the video game industry since the 90s. Originally a game music composer he's also been a tv personality, creative director, sound designer... He's talking about the group he's put together like they're the Traveling Wilburys.

I want it, but it's 249 - 299... for what looks a console to play cell phone games. I never had an intellivision so there's no real nostalgia there for me. I'm a sucker for mini consoles and exclusives, but 299 and purple... I would have jumped on the woodgrain set up had I seen it, but purple..... and with meh games so far. There's been an Earthworm Jim tease but it could turn out to not be a platformer.

Its hard to deny the collectability but the cost, the games, and the not so great exclusive that's available now just isn't selling me. I've subscribed to the mailing list in hopes they'll reopen preorders for the founders edition OR a new cooler looking exclusive console.

it doesn't look like its releasing with the system, in February it was mentioned as sometime q3.. I'm sure covid delays will make sure it's late too.

I am a little disappointed, there's only been 2 carts confirmed coming after the initial 8... I read somewhere it can do arcade games too... holy crap that'd completely open things up

oh yeah, amazon still shows December 31st

I've got the whole set preordered. You cant get the lynx collection or the xenocrisis / tanglewood dual cart yet but there's 10 others available for preorder. The website says may 20th but amazon say June 5th...

They're also on twitter asking if people would be interested in a collectors club... I hope that works out, I really liked what others have done in the past that they usually kill off (Nintendo power coming with a dragonquest, activision's pins, Nintendo's club rewards (they were pretty cool until they got cut out), I'm blanking out but there were others).

I dig it. I like white consoles as well as white controllers.

Help / Issues / Windows Mixed Reality Headset Issues
April 19, 2020, 11:43:33 PM
Not wanting to fully invest in a VIVE or Occulus VR set I chose the HP Windows Mixed Reality Headset. I got in a few Christmases ago with a gaming computer at a pretty good rate. Now well outside the manufacturers warranty I've discovered a design flaw, the stupid cable to connects the computer to the headset. theres an unintended pivot point where the cable goes into the headset that eventually cause the cord to fray. It's pretty well complained about in forums and reddit but HP refuses to sell the replacement and it's being scalped for well over 200 bucks. One end is display port, the other hdmi and usb 3.0. I've yet to find any replacement from any 3rd party.

940814-001 is the hp part number. If the replacement is going to be that high i'll just sell the headset for parts and put that towards the vive but first I wondered if anyone here knew if there was a way to terminate display port and hdmi, essentially repairing the cable, or if anyone knew of a place I could ship the cable to for repairs. HP obviously is done with it so i'm having to go third party.

There's been some talk that this generation of consoles could be more expensive than the last. Demand has components going at a premium especially since output has been stymied by the Coronavirus. It'd be nice if Sony and MS take a hit and keep the console prices down to sell more consoles but it's more likely less consoles will be produced at a 50 - 100 dollar higher than last generation msrp. It would also seem likely delays in manufacturing, a thinned out work force, and Sony saying they weren't going to make as many consoles would give game developers pause and give little incentive to put out software by launch. I realize the software got started long before Coronavirus was a thing so there's undoubtedly going to be stuff ready but anyone that might not quite be ready or may be looking at delaying wouldn't have quit the incentive to meet a launch target. I'm guessing less games and a higher entry price...

With that said I would wait to purchase (maybe wait for the upgraded console or a neat limited edition) but the only thing my son wants for Christmas is a ps5 so I'll likely preorder (especially since they're for sure making less consoles). The living room console may have to wait for that limited edition console to drop. In the mean time I'll be snagging last gen stuff on the cheap and playing through a back log.

I preordered the deluxe edition. FF7, FF3 and Chrono Trigger are in a constant battle for GOAT RPGS in my humble opinion so it was a must buy. While I fully believe its a money grab, I am excited they're taking the time to flesh out more of the FF7 story and making the complete experience in multiple parts - Even at $80 / section I highly doubt i'll regret the experience.

I have yet to start it though. I'm waiting until I can take a few days and enjoy it. My off days are a mixed bag of dealing with kids that have had their fill of each other and home improvement projects.

I'll get around to it when I can spend enough time on it to enjoy it.

The people still working do have a completely different work life now. I keep hearing about how bad doctors and nurses have it but where I live we have a pretty low amount of cases. The last figures I've seen put NC somewhere between the 12th and 14th lowest state in infections, so our medical staff isn't dealing with a lot. They still have strict rules to follow but the risk is lower here. NC has still stopped elective and non life threatening medical procedures so the hospitals are pretty empty. Telemed has really gained traction as well.

The grocery business is completely opposite. Walmart, target, the grocery stores; all are a complete nightmare. While there's technically less people, it seems I find myself in these places with the least intelligent of us. Stores are going out of their way to distance everyone, change the flow, wipe down things, etc. but people are still not used to it. Many isles are one way and very clearly marked yet few notice, or abide. I'll be in an isle 6 foot away from someone parked in the middle of the isle, making their selection, waiting to continue down. Someone will rush right passed and get in-between us. that cycle continues until I just have to push through, completely rendering the one way design useless. I've considered coughing and hacking just to keep people away but the fear of being lynched is too great. And the poor workers. I'm sure they deal with it their entire shift. They're exposed to far more people than any of our doctors yet they largely rely on hastily build sneeze guards and homemade masks.

I've not been a big medical drama fan but House was a masterpiece.

I just spent half my Friday trying to figure out why a brand new xbox one x wouldn't do 4k on a brand new 4k tv. After some cussing and some googling it turns out the model of receiver I had did 4k pass through but not hdr and didn't support hdcp 2.2 - so the best I could get out of an xbox x was 1080p..

Corona check went to a new receiver and some floor standing speakers..

from what I'm reading it released in japan but world wide release dates is still TBD....

I hope the evercade doesn't follow suit...

They came back right before Yauch died.

Frodo and East Bound and Down et. al. did a great revisit of Fight for your right...

what's left?

No need to answer, it's rhetorical and slightly sarcastic.

A hand picked TG 16 library of 40-50 would still have 20ish games I'd only spin up once or twice

@BLUEVOODU I would agree but

1. There's a lot of underserved games
2. Cartridge based
3. I can't help myself

i'd love to see it work with the windows mixed reality headset. It's no where near the caliber of what valve or oculus throw out there but it's a great low cost alternative that I was able to get on an insane deal. it doesn't work with everything but I got to try out vr without investing a house payment and my kid can beat on it without me losing my mind.

The game looks really cool, I won't buy a 1k VR right for it though

yeah sonic steelbook is real and shipping in may (if BestBuy doesn't screw that up)

I've got the collectors edition of the wizard that came out in March, I've not found a steelbook (googled to confirm!)

I'm incredibly nostalgic so things from my childhood that I loved find its way into my library. It leaves an opportunity open for my kids to ask questions or get involved. I'm just waiting for one of them to start a youtube channel making fun of or celebrating (likely both) dad's old crap a la kids react to...

there's been some wins - Mario, terminator, beastie boys, 80's pop, 80's horror movies, predator, star wars, and some losses - gi joe, 80s toons, 80s movies, hair bands, 90's alt, 00's rock, but it's been really fund to curate this crap and to have the current market really play to this with things like reboots and steelbooks.

shipping times. Stuff to NY is especially taking way long. There's some articles out about how the post office is running out of workers, money, resources, etc. and it makes me wonder. I think the longer this goes on the more telling it will be on businesses' leadership. There's no question that businesses are and will continue to suffer but the ones that are helmed by superior leaders will suffer less, let the customers down less, and come out stronger on the other end. I think this is a really good stress test on our postal system. The cracks are really starting to show now.

I have a lot of the exclusive titles but my daughter took the xbox to her room so all the halos, sea of thieves, rare replay, etc. have just been sitting. PSO2 (and just a general need for a 4k player in the living room) pushed me into buying one. There's games like the witcher 2 that I've saved to play on it as well. The ps4 absolutely wins this current gen and its mostly what I've been playing but there's room for the x

I don't know why I don't Google before I respond...

Preordered at BestBuy..
#325
I don't think it exists.. but if I see one i'll do it.

The only video game movie (that I know of) that I don't have is double dragon and it's incredibly crappy and incredibly rare. I love rare stuff but I refuse to pay for crappy rare stuff..
#326
my microwave and cook top took a crap on me on the same day... I ordered both from best buy with a delivery date april 15th, I get a call earlier today saying it wont be till may.

Amazon packages are taking longer, people are griping about eBay purchase...

with the unemployment numbers and stores closed it amazes me these retailers aren't trying to make money where they can..

Defiance pulled me from the MCU marathon I'd just started on. I love some crappy SyFy series and as a crappy syfy series I've not been disappointed thus far.
#329
$25.00 on amazon prime right now...

I'm waiting - I want a steelbook for that price.

I'm still working as well but we're absolutely dead. I've started watching the MCU in chronological order. I just started Iron Man 2.
