No joke on the hoarding. I had a couple rolls of TP left so I've been going to the grocery store and Walmart almost daily for a week before I found any in stock at Walmart... of course the only thing left was the 3ft tall x 2ft wide Charmin Gigantor Pack for 30 bucks, so i'm good for a while, or one drunken Halloween...

Tests are starting to come back now and they've found it where I live too... It seems like they've all been isolated at a converted shelter near the hospital and is being guarded by the police department... weird times

Restaurants, bars, pools, gyms, attractions, are almost completely shuttered in Asheville. Some restaurants are still doing take out or drive thru but for a destination know for breweries, Biltmore, and the parkway we're 66% screwed (more so actually, the parkway is open but the attractions along the parkway are closed). Hotels are closing or barely staying open. I just closed 60% of the hotel and laid off 75% of the employees. It's almost completely staffed by management now. Occupancy is down to nothing, we'll remain open until the city says close down.... and they've warned its coming...

The grocery store hysteria is starting to subside but you've got to go daily to catch certain items in stock (bread, tp) and forget about Lysol or hand sanitizer.

Banks are drive thru only.

No one I know has been sick and as of yet my county has 0 confirmed cases. Our airport isn't an international airport so we didn't get hit hard initially. Testing really didn't start until last Sunday. What we have takes 5 to 10 days to get information back from so we'll not see any numbers until mid next week. That will likely be the catalyst to the shelter in place order or local government seems to be considering.

the USS Flagg -- that thing was a monster.

My family couldn't buy it BUT years later when all the rich kids didn't have room for it anymore you could find it at yardsales pretty regularly. Mom found one that was just the carrier desk and got it for me. that thing had to stand upright in my closet or store under my bed, there was no where else for it.

Gamestop probably can't afford to have any disruption in business. They're on borrowed time likely holding out for the next gen stuff to drop so they get a little bump in revenue.

I'm a little excited about the possibility of having to shut off for a few weeks... Don't get me wrong I hope it doesn't happen but if it does I would use the time to seriously decompress.

The adult in me hates that I'll have to lay everyone off at work before the owner lays me off, my stock portfolio is a train wreck, my 401k a fraction of what it was in January, and the money under my mattress is making more in interest than the money in my money market... (j/k I don't have money under my mattress) but the kid in me realizes that there's enough boos in the liquor cabinet to get the entire neighborhood drunk, enough beer in the pantry to do it again the next day, and more video games than I'll ever get to play in my lifetime. It would be the ultimate staycation until the food and TP runs out... then it'd be Lord of the Flies.

Diablo is a day 1 purchase. hopefully we can find some time to get a group together

I used to buy things from MCM Electronics waaay back in the day but they've turned into something completely different. On a per piece basis ebay kits are a little expensive but you get the kit, instructions, and tons of feedback on how it works. There's a lot to think about when choosing the correct capacitor, not just rating but material too. I picked up a cap at Radio Shack once to fix some handheld (gamegear maybe) and it worked but you got some popping and hissing at higher volume. I found out years later the dielectric matters not just capacitance.

There's lists posted everywhere (here's one https://console5.com/wiki/Turbo_Express)

If you want to go piece by piece amazon works well (I don't know any specialty sight anymore that's cheap and easy to navigate) but I don't think you'll be saving money until you're working on multiple units.

Still looking for something to fill that outerwords hole...

I purchased Nier: Automata after listening to every person that's ever played it rave and it didn't grab me. I found fallout 76 and final fantasy XV for five bucks and picked those up as well. Neither are screaming play me...

While I was out I preordered the steelbook version of ff7 as the hype there has been gaining momentum. That may be my next big time sink. In the mean time I may look back at the Switch, I never finished breath of the wild or links awakening

@retro junkie when that does happen youtube is your best friend. usually all it takes is an ebay account to source the parts and some novice soldering skills.

Almost everything I've sold I wish I kept, most of what I've kept I've contemplated selling.

At this point I'll only sell duplicates when I get better copies or systems. No more regrets, just clutter!

I dug through my mother's attic a while back and didn't find crap. What she didn't give to goodwill when I was in college she put in totes and gave back to me during my housewarming party!

At least that's how I tell it, she says nothing is missing but there's boxes and boxes of baseball cards I've not seen since puberty...

There might be some expensive stuff in there @Grindspine, and I bet that'd be awesome hooked up to your sony

I found a Cobra Rattler in Goodwill for 2 bucks. It's missing some parts but the wings and landing gear works and is in great condition. I thought about restoring it by buying parts on ebay but holy crap i'm better selling it's part off and buying a complete one..

I loved the GI Joe Planes as a kid and this was one of the greatest.

I can't remember which version of Rygar I liked better. I do remember rage quitting it at the final boss and never picking it back up again. I just watched a youtube video where someone beat the final boss (Ligar) in about ten seconds. Now I feel I must redeem myself and finally beat the game.

Maybe if it doesn't come out on the Lynx cart we'll get lucky and tecmo will have a cart of its own, although I fear there's not enough 8 / 16 bit gems under the tecmo name. Tehkan might help (bombjack plus 1 or two more) but a Tecmo cart would still seem football heavy.

"There are 17 games on this cartridge, which is due at some point in Q3, including the likes of Scrapyard Dog, Basketbrawl, Super Asteroids/Missile Command, Awesome Golf, Crystal Mines II: Buried Treasure, Dracula the Undead, and Malibu Bikini Volleyball."

where blue lightning, war birds, rygar, lemmings, rampart? At least its got Malibu Bikini Volleyball lol...

I think i'm going to push for a complete set and at 20 per cart it seems reasonable. What I've not decided yet is if I want to keep one of the consoles in the box unopened.

It would be awesome if this became a thing where we'd see games being released regularly and maybe a dedicated console or a dock that would allow for controllers and play on the big screen...

Still looking for the Atari lynx cartridge that I heard was going to be available too

Here's a switch wannabe about to release that's dedicated to the 8 to 16 bit era. The packaging is bland, battery life is meh, but it takes everything good about the switch and focuses it on the retro game collector. The carts (YES CRAP TO COLLECT) are by publisher and run 20 each while the console is at a 80 - 100 dollar price point depending on the number of pack in games. So far it looks like you can skip a date night and preorder the whole lot.

Evercade has sent a bunch of youtubers advance copies of the console and the game so it's pretty easy to find gameplay and reviews if anyone wants to look into this thing. There's not been a ton of buzz about the Evercade but i'm excited and I know there are several that lurk here that can appreciate what the Evercade is and what it can potentially do for our hobby. There's a lot of cool stuff there, and a lot of potential but it had me at Earthworm Jim
