So, what's up?

Certs make breath not bad.

What games we play?

FFX was not only one of my favorite Final Fantasy games, but also one of the most amazing PS2 experiences.  I picked up the remaster years ago, but had stopped part way through the game due to obligations at the time.  I picked it back up recently and am hooked.

The HD remaster gets rid of any blocky, pixilated graphics and adds some international version features that are not apparent until mid to late game.  The expanded sphere grid and addition of dark aeons to defeat change the end game strategy quite a bit.

Years ago, I had written off the celestial weapons for each character after frustration with the chocobo racing, butterfly chasing, and lightning dodging, thinking all three were ridiculous in difficulty and not necessary to defeat Sin.  With the changes in end game enemies, I went back and defeated all three this week.  I got the 0.0.0 time on the racing, completed both butterfly catcher trials, and dodged 215 consecutive lightning bolts to get the Onion Knight weapon!  Now I just need to play about a month's worth of Blitzball to get Wakka's weapon and overdrive abilities!

Looks like there is an official release date for the Switch and it is listed on Steam as well!

Congrats on passing the cert!

Yay, I got play of the game with D.Va twice last night!

Apple disgusts me.  Their dealer policies are terrible, but people seem to love their Apple Care!

Companies usually offer a warranty within a specified period of how long the failure rate is within reason of cost effectiveness to repair.  This is to raise consumer faith in the product, but does not guarantee 100% that the unit works, only that the unit can be repaired or replaced at discretion of the manufacturer if the unit does not work.

In the past, I purposely have tinkered and modified with gear early on in ownership, knowing that I was voiding the warranty, pushing the unit out of spec, and aware that I was taking responsibility for this action.  I had an understanding of what "limited warranty" meant though.

From a manufacturer standpoint, there is no reason to offer warranty (warranty itself is not required by law to my knowledge), so any offering of warranty terms should be left to the manufacturer.

Because of the above statement, I would say the FTC is overstepping their regulatory agency jurisdiction.  Warranty policies should be left free trade, in the discretion of the manufacturer.  Those who do not make a good product will lose business while those who make a good product and stand behind it should thrive.

General Discussion / Re: Ant-Man and the Wasp - The MOVIE

One does not simply derail the thread into LOTR.

;D

As said above, Ant Man & the Wasp is still on Netflix.  It is a good watch!

The tax for having a large army can be somewhat understood in an attempt to keep turtling low.  The strong focus on hero characters really worked for DOTA 2, but felt too forced in the RTS gameplay of WarCraft III.

I played through the main and expansion campaigns, but never even bothered with multiplayer in WarCraft III.

When you still have your PS2 hooked up to your main tv...  ;D

It was always a novelty and created as convenience. All of these classic consoles are. They're not meant to be replacements for current gen hardware. If they were, then they would have the ability to add more games. Not everyone has the means to play PS1 games. We're not really the target audience as we're collectors.

That makes a lot of sense.  Granted, I did grab an SNES Classic (though I have a working SNES set up in the other room) for some games that I had missed out in purchasing (Super Castlevania IV) and games that were lost in my parents' house (Zelda III: A Link to the Past).  The Playstation Classic could have been more successful with a larger game library.  Apparently there are easy USB stick modifications to add to the library.

I invested in heavy blackout curtains to try to cut the draft coming through the window.  It kind of helped, but I still had to run the main heat, a space heater, and two humidifiers to keep any semblance of comfortable air.

Wow.  With the high metacritic reviews, I figured that I was the only one who really did not get this series!

I tried to play Infinite last week.  After wondering around a very racist seeming early 1900s fair, suddenly you are skyhooking police in the face and possessing security robots.  But I still don't get why I was doing anything in the game!

The graphics are awesome.  I just don't get the motivation behind the characters' actions.

Reports are showing that this will be a graphically updated, mechanically rebalanced, fully backwards compatible version of Warcraft III.  What?!

Anyone else looking at potentially getting this?

From what I have read since the original post, the game was developed by Iga, the same guy who had worked on Symphony of the Night and Lament of Innocence.  So, it is by a former Konami employee who had a deep history with the Castlevania series, but came into it after the NES era.  Bloodstained Ritual has been on my radar for a long time, but the extremely lengthy development time has left me with lowered expectations.

I still have my Playstation 2 and Playstation 3 set up in the living room, so any Playstation games are instantly accessible without buying a mini console.
#379
There was no real point to a Playstation mini since many of those games are downloadable on the PS3, PS4, PSP, PS Vita, or ported to PC.  The NES and SNES Classic consoles still had games that had not ever been ported (Castlevania II: Simon's Quest anyone?), so had some collector's value along with nostalgia value.

An N64 mini by Nintendo would still kill it.  I do not know if there would be enough demand for an Atari Jaguar or Neo Geo remake due to the lack of market share those consoles had in the '90s.  I still see Atari 2600 and Sega Genesis mini consoles collecting dust in department stores too; many of those games had been released in ports as well.

General Discussion / Bioshock: I don't get the series.
January 30, 2019, 06:00:35 PM
I have Bioshock, Bioshock 2, and Bioshock: Infinite on both PS3 and PC.  I have tried numerous times to play all three and always stop playing two hours later.  These games are very highly rated, have amazing graphics, and great gameplay mechanics.  Yet, I just do not seem to ever understand the reasons behind the actions in the games.

What is it about the Bioshock games that I am missing that has made the series so highly regarded?

FortNite / Re: FortNite Cross Play works well Now

My nephew has gotten me to play Fortnite with him a few times while I was on PC with the Epic Games Launcher and he was on Xbone.  It was pretty fluid overall.

Anyone know if the Unreal alpha (also on Epic Games) is cross play compatible?

General Discussion / Gaming shows?
December 30, 2018, 08:03:33 PM
I miss back in the day when X Play was a thing with Adam Sessler and Morgan Webb.  However, I have seen some show on Netflix that are not review shows, but are heavily video game based.

Video Game High School was actually moderately entertaining.  Gamers go to a high school where they are divided among the fighting games, driving games, and FPS games.

Hi Score Girl is an anime that my girlfriend recently started watching.  It is all about old school '90s gaming noting Final Fight, Virtua Fighter, King of Fighters '94, Tekken, and showing more than a few clips of the Darius games.

Both are worth a watch.

Will consider it, feeling like puke though.  Something that I ate did not agree with my stomach.

Back in 2002 they sounded really good.  Auto tune was not used live often then either.  Even the guitars were solid even though they were running through Line 6 Vetta heads.  They were dialed in that night!

Old Crown had some Jamaican Blue Mountain again.  My dad said this batch was a bit more bitter than the last though.
