I've only played Bioshock 1 and I loved it. The story was unique for the time and the locations and atmosphere were top notch. Even though the story was unique, it was still silly. I guess it depends on how much you can suspend your disbelief. The atmosphere and gameplay were enough to get me past any silliness.

The only two songs from the Black album that I actually enjoy are The God That Failed and My Friend of Misery. If the album was more like that, it would probably be one of my favorites.

Been on a Judas Priest kick lately and have been listening to Painkiller a lot and also The Hellion/Electric Eye.

My biggest problem is, any of the games on that console mini that I might be interested in,  I have. I can just pull them out and play them on my PS3. And they play without any kind of issue. The only point in owning such a disaster would be just to collect an oddity.

It was always a novelty and created as convenience. All of these classic consoles are. They're not meant to be replacements for current gen hardware. If they were, then they would have the ability to add more games. Not everyone has the means to play PS1 games. We're not really the target audience as we're collectors.

@BLUEVOODU

Oh, I haven't opened it and don't plan to any time soon. If the price drops even more then I might pick up a second unit to play with.

I posted this in the Deals section but I'll post it here as well. It has now dropped to $55!

This thing is bombing hard and it's now nearly half off of it's original price. If anyone was interested in one, this is a good time to buy I think.

Picked up RE2 Remake on Steam. Currently testing it out and tweaking the settings. I'm getting massive drops in framerate during cutscenes and gameplay isn't a locked 60FPS at 1080p even though I exceed the Recommended Settings.

Hopefully it's something that can be fixed on my end since I don't want to wait for a patch to play.

Update: I fixed the issue. I had installed the game on my mechanical hard drive. I reinstalled it on my SSD and the game runs like butter with nearly all settings Maxed out at 1080p.

General Discussion / Re: Game of the Year (GOTY) - 2018 ?

I haven't played many 2018 specific games other than Spider-Man. So I guess that's my pick.  :))

Ended up getting God of War and Shadow of the Colossus on PS4. Might go through GoW after I finish Spider-Man.

Started going through Spider-Man for PS4. This game is really fun and feels so good when swinging around the city. I hope there's a sequel.

General Discussion / Re: Limited Run Games

I've thought about picking one or two up but I never got the impulse to pull the trigger. It's a neat idea though and I'm glad someone is doing it.

This is probably where the industry is going. Digital is going to take over and only a handful of physical copies will go around for those hardcore purists.

That's why I love the Metallica box sets. They contain rare, live shows from their vault. They sound so good!

Not sure if I've seen a metal show that had bad sound, which is pretty good. But then again I haven't seen many metal shows. I've seen Tool, Metallica, Opeth, Dream Theater, Megadeth, Slayer, Anthrax, etc. That's about it.

Indeed it is a front end for common emulators.

You still have to do a moderate amount of tuning since I expect people to have a certain preference on how their games run, but it can play your games "out of the box" with no tweaking either. All you would need to do is set up your controller and make sure that your games are in the right format.

I believe the hacking community is already working on porting retroarch to the PS1 Classic.

Ah Interesting... so you can legitimately just throw ISO's at it and it works (for the most part).  That's pretty crazy - although it makes sense. But then I come back to the point of ... if you're going to hack something to play other emu games... why not save your money and just use your PC.

Still interesting they hacked one of these "classic" machines.

Well, there are a few reasons. For one, they take up less space and are usually more aesthetically pleasing in your living room. Like targetrasp mentioned, you can get some cases that look like an NES or SNES pretty easily. Although, PS1 cases are not looking as good because the shape of console doesn't lend itself as easily to the raspberry pi. Second, it's fairly cheap to get a pi if you don't have a powerful PC.

Personally, I do prefer a PC. I just got Beetle PSX via Retroarch up and running and the games look amazing. They have some sweet shaders as well for those who enjoy the CRT retro look. I might start a new topic on it. Probably going to play through a bunch games over the Christmas break.  :)

I might be able to play something over the break but I mainly play on Steam since I don't have a PSN or XBL subscription.

@CreepinDeth What can you do with the hacked version?

You can load your own games without being limited to the 16GB internal storage. Looks like not all games run well though since the emulator is an older, outdated version.

Are you into Titanfall 2 or Titanfall games @CreepinDeth ?

@BLUEVOODU  - I have the first one on Origin. I booted it up once and then put it away since I had other games to play. So, not really, lol.  :))

General Discussion / Re: Favorite Video Game Soundtracks

Went back to a classic today. Started up some original Sonic the Hedgehog OST. It's one of my favorite soundtracks of all time.

man... I love Shortest Straw... that's still one of my favorite songs. I have not heard the re-release.... I take it was remastered as well?

Shortest Straw is seriously underrated. Love that song myself. It has been remastered already so I'm not sure if this is a new remaster or just the same remaster they've already done. The rerelease comes in box set or stand alone. I already have the Ride the Lightning and Master of Puppets box sets. Just need this one and Kill 'Em All.

Aaaaaaannnnddd...

...it's hacked.

Not surprising since it's happened to the other consoles as well. However, due to Sony's lack of caring, it was much easier to do. You can pop in a USB stick with games and the system can read off of it. This might cause it to sell more units now.
#411
I'm going to pick it up but probably after Christmas. I have way too many games I need to get through at the moment.

@CreepinDeth - I really need to play through it.  It's been long enough... I believe I have it in my steam list too  :o   Greatest game of all time??

Yes it is. It's a fact!  ;D
#413
I have not picked up Battlefield V and probably won't unless EA sells it for $5 like the previous versions. I'm just not into shooters that much at the moment.

@CreepinDeth What is a professional run?  I really haven't played Resident Evil 4 more than tries.  I know... bad BV.

Yep, bad BV!

Professional is the hardest difficulty in the game. I recommend this game even in lower difficulty settings. It's the greatest game of all time!

Did you get much play time with it at all?

It's more than likely never coming out of the box for me. It's sitting on a shelf looking pretty with the others.

Seems like Sony simply wanted this out for Christmas and didn't pay attention to its development. My guess is straight up laziness.
#416
DF Retro did their review. Yeah, it's quite a mess. I received mine and have it sitting with my other mini consoles.

#417
I just finished another playthrough on Resident Evil 4. I haven't done a Professional run on Steam so I went ahead and did that this week. Might start RE5 next.

You don't buy a threadripper CPU for gaming. You can game with it but it's not going to be any better, or actually be somewhat worse, than a four core or six core CPU.

These are for the programs that are heavily threaded or if you do lots of heavy multitasking. If you do any rendering, these are the CPUs for you.
#419
Word on the street is that a few of these games are the PAL region versions which means that they will be running at 50hz even for the North America release. Not sure what Sony is doing and who is running this project. Pretty sloppy if you ask me.

I've been listening to Metallica's ...And Justice For All album since it was recently re-released.

Mainly just been sticking to the classic's lately like Metallica, Megadeth, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest & Ozzy. I haven't been able to get into a lot of the metal bands that have come out in the last decade but I'll have to check them out a bit more. Need to broaden my horizons.
