Started.......watched the first episode.
thoughts?

@Grindspine Star Wars Rebels led up to Rogue One?  Rogue One was part of the story before Episode 4... so that was between Episode 3 and Rogue 1?  or did Rebels start sometime before Episode 3?  Sometimes the timeline of Ahsoka doesn't make sense (or is hard to keep straight) between all the series and then Mandalorian and the Book of Boba Fett.

The Bad Batch was awesome... really dug that series.

If you received the gift of gaming, post it up!

yeah @targetrasp  I see that too.  The only problem with that now... is that EVERYONE poo poo's on EVERYTHING.  It's almost as if the majority are negative about anything.. and it's not done right.   Part of the problem today is that everyone has tapped in a formula of some sort... and many things are not done outside that formula.   Shoes, Cars, and many other products and industries no longer take a chance and follow a formula.  I can't blame others for doing this ... as it's a risk to stray from a formula.

Sad to hear this. I know when my CRT gave out it was a sad day. Retro gaming has not been the same since. I really miss scan lines.
As dumb as it sounds, I've been through a lot with that TV in place lol.  Lots of great gaming and times as well.

@Grindspine and I had a ton of Tekken Tag Tournament 2 hours.  @SpartanEvolved and @mastermario had a ton of gaming time as well.   I've also played a ton remotely with others lol  ;D

General Discussion / Nope - the movie
August 10, 2022, 08:40:27 AM
Did anyone have a chance to see the movie Nope?   We heard it was a bit different and checked it out in the theaters.  The overall movie was decent... the concept was pretty cool.   It was more sci-fi than horror (which is good in my opinion)... but they may have overdone it a bit on the violence demonstrating how predators attack.  It does lead into proving a point (or trying to prove a point).

The concept they use for Aliens is a very interesting take.  A lot of the movie is slow going... but that's ok by me.

Has anyone else seen this movie?  Do you want to see it and are waiting for it to become a rental?  It's not mind blowing, but it's definitely cool to see a different take on a topic.

We started watching this awhile back due to @Grindspine recommendation.  We watched the animated movie... then started into the series.  It started a bit rough  but is smoother in Season 2.  We are about half way through Season 2.

Not sure why, I just never gave Star Wars: The Clone Wars the time of day ... partly I didn't have time to check it out either.  But going back into it, it's a pretty good view.   Will be adding this to the binge watching topic!

What are your thoughts on the series?  I'm sure most of everyone has finished the series by now.  Post it up!

I do understand the Hallmark feeling for sure. It's basically a formula for low budget rom-coms. However, I'm still not sure what a Disney movie feels like. I grew up with the Disney renaissance of the '90's with Aladdin, Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, etc and then with Pixar. I also watched a lot of Disney channel with my niece and nephew when I babysat them in the '00's. The last decade I haven't seen much of.

I don't get any of that "Disney" feeling when I watch any MCU product though, which is why I'm genuinely curious what it all means.
I believe many of those new shows are on Disney +.  They are DEFINITELY a different formula the later you go.  In many cases, faster and more add in topic and action (not necessarily stating as a negative)... which is hard to imagine.

Also, as far as I know, I don't think the announced they are renewing Ms. Marvel.  Hopefully a season 2 will be coming.  I definintely liked the series.    It was interesting how the attempted to tell the Indian Partition as well, but honestly... I know next to nothing on that topic.

@CreepinDeth --> Maybe a Comic-Con topic is necessary  ;D

General Discussion / Thor: Love and Thunder
July 11, 2022, 12:57:59 PM
The next awaited Thor movie released last Friday.   Thor: Love and Thunder... did anyone have a chance to check this out?

I'm glad they brought back Natalie Portman ... and I won't spoil how in case you have totally avoided all spoiler containing trailers.   They bring back some of the same elements from Taika Waititi's Thor: Ragnarok.  I will say... some of those elements they did better in Ragnarok for sure.

The movie, overall, was an enjoyment to watch.  There are definitely some disjointed parts of the movie and it jumped around more than Ragnarok as well.  I am being vague on purpose and will fill in those thoughts more as more of you see the movie.

General Discussion / Top Gun: Maverick
July 11, 2022, 12:50:48 PM
Has anyone seen Top Gun: Maverick?   We saw it about a week ago... it was pretty cool IMO.  It wasn't the best, but the flight scenes, like before, were really cool.  The story was alright... I won't throw any spoilers yet.  It definitely played homage to the original Top Gun.  It's also pretty cool they included Val Kilmer.  I didn't realize how rough it has been for him.

Super Sad face... my old 50PK750 LG Plasma died.  Super Sad face.  IT had pretty awesome colors and motion.  Over the last year and a half, there was an issue with a 2 inch vertical strip in the middle of the tv.  It finally kicked the curb.  I tried a few things to troubleshoot it, but couldn't find an easy solution.

So... I gave up the tv and moved to an LG C1 OLED 48"... at a really great price I might add.  I wanted a slightly smaller screen for FPS games.  For some reason, the 50" was a bit hard to keep track of motion edge-to-edge.  I will say, this TV is pretty cool.   However, I happened to notice the OLED stutter.  I turned on trumotion and worked with the settings, but it's still slightly noticeable.   I still really like the tv... it really does have a wonderful looking screen.   @SpartanEvolved mentioned it... and it's a great buy.

I really wasn't ready to give up the plasma yet.  @targetrasp and I were talking about this happening... and dangit... it happened.   The old tv still had component (etc)... for some of the old consoles. I don't think any new tvs have that anymore.  Time to move on though!

@CreepinDeth I agree.  I think Feige has done a pretty good job so far... great for the most part.  I can see why some have issues with it... and why others do not.  I personally have enjoyed almost every minute of it outside a few things.

Part of me also wonders if Disney is changing the narrative.  I know progression happens over time.  The vision appears to have changed over time as well... even with the world's vision changing and different events that happened.  Maybe it's just the difference between Marvel itself and Marvel in Disney.

QuoteHonestly, I find the Sam Raimi Spider-man high school scenes way more cringey than this
So true.  Andrew and Toby BOTH had major cringe worthy scenes.  They sort of dealt with that during Spider-Man: No Way Home lol.  ;D

With all the new shows from Obi-wan, Ms. Marvel, and Stranger Things... time has been taken up for other binge watching.   However, now going back to  Agents of Shield Season 2 (I was wrong.. I didn't finish all season 1) AND Clone Wars.  I think on Season 2 now.

The nvme m.2 sata's are ridiculously fast.  There's no turning back from those anymore... just insanely fast.  Once you go that route, it's impossible to go back.
#437
@CreepinDeth still no notice for me... I think it's supposed to be sometime in July.  Now I'm starting to have pre-buyers-remorse   ;D
#438
@targetrasp   Now you make me want to pre-order it.  I Think I might do that.  Same as you, I realllllly liked the 1st 3 and never played Days of Ruin.

I used to play this on my old GBA SP.  It was the Perfect game for handheld.
#439
lol how did the translator work for you on those other games, @retro junkie ?  You have patience for sure.   Samurai Shodown RPG... was one game I wanted to play, but just didn't have the patience.  I don't think they ever came out with a English translation...  they might have by now though.

This game is definitely worth a play, I think you would like it @retro junkie   Now that it's on the Switch... you can just do that  ;D  If you do... you need to post up your thoughts!

yeah... good post @targetrasp   I need to try this out.

We do have a cloud gaming board - I haven't had much time to break into this yet:
Cloud Gaming

They had a notice for early access last year.  I didn't participate, but threw a topic out here.  Looks like they have rolled out it.  Interesting more isn't mentioned about it.  Even when on Amazon.com, they don't really market it at all (yet).

Good post @CreepinDeth  I was meaning to get around to this... this is a great topic.

I think the show is pretty good so far.  There are some teenagery annoying things... but so far, so good.  You're also right, the main character cast is spot on. However, I have to agree with @retro junkie too on his spoiler comment.  I was scratching my head after seeing that particular piece play out.

Definitely looking forward to more.

That optimus prime lego set is ridiculous.  I MISS the old Tower or Orthanc (Saruman's tower).  That was REALLY cool as well... I missed it just before it went out of stock.  Great stuff though.

I agree with @CreepinDeth as well... good stuff.  I really dug the series.  I need more.  I need this do be as many seasons as the CLone Wars and to be awesome.  This is a need... yes... a need.

@retro junkie -  Seriously.... laughed the entire time.  That's hilarious.  You are 100% right @Grindspine , I really miss the "old" way things were done...  that's just pure awesome.

LOL... and another game not played  ;D

It's so hard to NOT open a game once that value jumps.  I personally open many as I get them and don't have that problem later.   BUT... that's changed since about 2018/2019 where time became even more scarce

That TV has survived since 2006 through 4 apartments and a house.  Bluevoodu actually helped me move it twice!
lol... per @targetrasp  1 Hernia later!  ;D  I kid... that wasn't too bad to move.  It is a nice TV.

That's a cool setup.  Those S-Video SNES cables were rare for a long time.  Not sure if they're more available now or not.

General Discussion / Re: Eternals
June 08, 2022, 11:55:57 AM
I See what you're saying @CreepinDeth .  I thought Iron Man 2 was a bit bland... Thor 2 as well... even though I liked Thor 2 better on subsequent views.   I really liked Captain America 1, so I cannot say the same for that movie.  In fact, I had a hard time with Age of Ultron for the longest time. I just started liking that movie a lot more since I noticed a few pieces and how they tied it together with other movies in the future.

Eternals, I can see how you would rate that with Iron Man 2 and Thor 2.   Still... it's probably my least liked Marvel movie at this time.  I also agree, it should've been a D+ series... but they wouldn't have had a couple of the actresses (at least I don't think) if they did it that way.

@targetrasp Biomotor Unitron... is a game that took a lot of my time in the past and it was a lot of fun.  I'm surprised there haven't been more comments on it.   I'm  a bit surprised that @retro junkie didn't have a comment lol  ;D

It was definitely a unique take on crafting a "fighting Robot" with different materials...etc.  It was somewhat like leveling up a Pokemon and fighting "trainers..." crossed with unique aspects in crafting and making more powerful arms and weapons.

I'm surprised more haven't commented on this one!

Thank you @CreepinDeth ... I'm not spoiling that one yet  ;D  We're about to pick the series back up.  Unfortunately, we are in about the same place we were.
