Started up Zelda 2 with the Nintendo online on the switch. Suspend points make this game infinitely less frustrating. I remember never having enough patience to beat it without the game genie. When you run out of lives you start back at the sleeping princess, often no where near where you were. Also, your experience got subtracted when an enemy hits you and completely reset when you had to continue. Now with the suspend feature when it gets to the last life I can save and retry from that point. it's really helpful to retry tough encounters until I reach that next experience milestone or finish off that palace boss before having to start all over and / or losing your experience progress.

I thought I was the only one.. I've wanted so hard to like these games and get into the series because a lot of people rave about them.. so far not one has given me a reason to play for very long.

We might have seen single digits once this year, and outside of one 13 inch snowfall we've had some pretty decent weather.

top classic candidates that I would actively play

N64 (seems like a done deal already)
Sega Saturn
Sega Dreamcast

Interesting ones I'd at least collect

tg16 - great shooters, decent platformers, library is thin and gets old fast though
jaguar - there's really no library to be found but for some reason I love the console
3do  - if for nothing other than the laughably bad Plumbers Don't Wear Ties
cdi - please include the worst Zelda game ever made
Atari 2600, 5400, 7800 (for the miniaturized consoles, not the games)

Probably will happen but will disappoint me

PS2 - I think if I was honest with myself the ps2 the pinnacle of gaming for me. no sampling of games would every be able to represent the ps2 library well enough at any price point. The PSone classic already crapped the bed so hard it would be near impossible to gain enough faith in sony to merit purchasing another classic system with any optimism; and I'd still be disappointed.

get a nice heat gun and you'll have it up and running in no time.

sweet. I've been back and forth on getting the collectors flavor but I'm slowing up on heavy duty game collecting for the time being. I'm sure I'll hate myself for not picking up one for under 20 bucks.

False alarm here today. Schools closed just at the mention of ice and we spent the first part of the day in the 40s. It's 20 now but still now ice and it only snowed for an hour without any accumulation.

there's truly no hope then

8bitdo has a $20.00 Bluetooth adapter that'll not only let you play with wireless controllers but also allow access to an options menu that seems to improve the experience. I haven't played around with it much but you can change it to NTSC as well as add scan lines. Its capable of more but in the five minutes I've played around with it that's what grabbed my attention.

I didn't fully comprehend the hype this game was getting.

It was a fun game but it tarnished quickly and while I haven't tried it out lately, I can't imagine it aging well either.

its cool. The only real difference is the playable characters. If you want an easier experience use toadette and nabbit. There's a few graphical improvements and some game modes I don't remember from the wii u version as well.

Its good, better if you don't have the wii u version or want to play on the go.

I beat the first Koopa Kid in Mario Deluxe and tried out Smash Bros... Not sure I'm going to like Smash but to be fair I wasn't in a fighting game kind of mood.

I have been really wanting to play Symphony of the Night or Rondo of Blood, may have to necro a playstation for symphony. I doubt I'll come off the hip for Rondo.

Something about those Scandinavians' heavy music I dig,

volbeat, meshugga, opeth, in flames, at the gates..

I think blu ray is licensed. Everything I have that's on a blu ray has the logo, none of the wii u games have it. It's probably JUST different enough to be something different. Feel the sides as compared to other discs. the wii u discs even feel different.
#556
I picked this game up but haven't given it a chance yet. It seems like all of Mario u and luigi u + toad and toadette who can only die by falling in pits? It doesn't seem like theres new levels, just an easy button.

I've heard tons of people swear the wii u is blue ray and isn't any more prone to disc rot or damage than other blue rays, but I'm convinced otherwise.

Wii U isn't blu ray. The biggest wii u game size I've seen was under 20 gb. Wikipedia says it's a wii u optical disc with a max cap of 25gb made by Panasonic. I'm sure its close but there's noticeable differences like the softer edges and the omission of the blu ray logo being stamped anywhere on the case.

25gb is a single layer blu ray so i'm sure the wii u disc and a blu ray are close but i'm certian there's differences. I've not had any trouble with ps3 discs. My children were toddlers during the ps3, and not one disc was rendered unplayable. I think at some points it'll come out that the foil in a wii u disc is different than a standard blu ray and that it oxidizes quicker. I'd also wager that the thickness of a wii u disc is a little less than a standard blu ray. I can't back that up but if anyone has a nice digital micrometer it'd be nice to find out.

i finally subscribed to Nintendo's online service and immediately played Zelda all the way through 5. I couldn't remember 6 and 7's location on the first quest right off the top of my head so I quit.

I picked up Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe today, probably only to go into the pile of back logged games for a few years

the top being damaged is much worse. the bottom section seems to have more meat and can be ground down and polished "resurfaced" when severely scratched but once that aluminum or magnesium or whatever metal alloy foil that holds the information is touched the disc is pretty much shot. The foil must be closer to the top of the disc. Long ago I purchased a lot of PS2 and DC games (several hundred each) for pennies a disc that were all scored on the top of the disc. They were purposefully cut and came out of Texas so my assumption was Gamestop purposefully destroyed to get them out of their inventory and to keep them from finding their way back into the market. Out of what could have been a thousand or so discs I was only able to get a handful to work and for the most part they were the ps2 games. If the razor didn't make it far enough into the disc to cut the foil too much I was able to use a sharpie to cover the scratch and play the game with varying degrees of degradation. Matter of fact, Dark Cloud, one of my most favorite ps2 games, was fixed this way an I could never tell a difference.

I've experienced the fragility of the wii u games a lot. I've had at least two that I purchased new mess up like Retro mentioned. Super Mario U and Lego City both took a dive. I ended up coloring in the top of the disc where the holes were and got more life out of Mario but it eventually crapped out. Lego never recovered. Both have since been replaced. I've had another 4 or 5 resurfaced from where the kids mistreated the discs as well.

Parker has started to pick up Splatoon 2 again. I think it's a pallete cleanser after some bad fortnight rounds.

#561
somewhere I have some awesome Visual Basic stuff, if I can dig it up and its content I'll be glad to add it.
#562
my switch time has been very limited, in fact all I've spent any real time on has been Zelda. I have had limited time on Mario / Rabbids, Starlink, and Golfstory.
#563
Parker has had it since launch, it didn't get nearly the play the first did.

It's for the best, I'd take a while for autocomplete to learn a new site anyway...

Spider-Man - it's pretty awesome, still working at it 60ish percent on the campaign. Smash Bros. is still in its shrink wrap... may have to do something about that soon

Angry Birds, Barbie, and Cars all scream beating a dead franchise...

Angry Birds peaked way before either the movie or console games every thought about coming out. The going rate for some of these is waay more than i want to pay for trash BUT there's not that many so I can deal with it. For the most part trash games go for trash game prices.

I still question the mario and sonic olympics game. it seems to be the highest (or tied for highest) average priced game on the wii u.

It does seem eBay has a few auctions that would potentially save a few bucks but for the most part there's insanely priced buy it nows on the rarer stuff.
#566
I think I'm going to go for the complete set. I've got a super problem paying 30 + for a Barbie game and a Cars game though... and that Mario and sonic at the Olympics seems like it's overpriced as well...

is it too late to call the site blackoutmodegaming.com... or what's blops's version of a chicken dinner?

Spider-Man is the first game I've really gotten into since Breath of the Wild. Speaking of, I should probably finish Breath of the Wild at some point..

I'm not Titanfalls biggest fan BUT it is fun, and worth the price of admission. Had I bought the game at launch for full price I would have been pissed.

Other than Titanfall I've been playing a lot of SPider-Man. Turning the combat difficulty up is really satisfying but that close quartered stuff with the crappy camera angles gets irritating.
