Messages - BLUEVOODU

yeah... ever since the PlayStation3, I used the PS3 and PS4 as my blu-ray player.   I still buy Blu-Ray discs here and there... but ... I've also somewhat fallen into the crowd that streams.

There have been (and are) many times where I've been glad I had the disc on hand though.

I'm not sure anyone is playing anymore.  RTS style games really dropped off.   I'm definitely down to try to play against some AI comps here soon.  We should play.  I need to find a bit of time... but we should do some vs AI matches.  I definitely need to warm up... I haven't played Starcraft 2 in a long time... really since Legacy of the Void came out and they drastically changed up gameplay.

LOL. Booo @Grindspine  That's pretty funny...

Her story of being attacked by the chickens was pretty funny as well.  Good stuff!   I miss playing this game. It's been awhile... but it was one of my favorites.  It really was overshadowed by Ocarina of Time and Majoras Mask once they came out.  The game still holds up well today.

Hey @AngelBob Glad to see you back!

Yeah... I finally upgraded to an iPhone.  I've ran BlackBerry (no joke) since 2007 I think...?  I even had a BlackBerry Motion as my last phone.   I have to say, I really liked it.  It was android... and they finally had the screen RIGHT for a touch screen BlackBerry.  It had low adoption numbers though... sucks... but it is what it is.  So... AT&T was shutting down 3G.  My BlackBerry Motion was a 4G LTE device.

AT&T screwed me over... They Shutdown my device multiples times stating there was some 3G component to it.  I'm like... it's a 4G phone.    Fought and Fought... finally bought an iPhone directly from Apple. I wasn't going to buy through AT&T after that mess.  So frustrating, it was.  The Motion still had a decent amount of life left.  I was going to try to get a gaming phone or something (why not)... but I everything was out of stock... and I went with the iPhone.   I've used one for work for the last 11 years... and they're not bad.  I do miss BlackBerry a bit... I'm sure I'm the only one these days.  ;D

You know... this is a good question, @Grindspine

I've been working on certifications over the last couple years and in a post grad program right now... I'm a bit out of the loop.  really, the PlayStation 5 and newest Xbox were supposed to be decent jumps in technology... at least storage for PS5.   However, even those systems don't see like a major jump.

The latest Nvidia cards (3080....etc) were supposed to be decent jumps.  However, the inability to acquire ANY of the above (or at least the difficulty of acquiring) very well could hamper adoption of said technologies.  Obviously, it will happen.  But we are in a weird limbo state it seems.

for example... when the i7 came out with triple channel ram... that was amazing.  When the 4870x2 came out many years back... that was amazing.   Crisis... nothing (in my opinion) really pushes the envelope like that.  I'm not sure it should.... What's next?  Super real life?  then again... I'm not sure it shouldn't either.

one thing I will say is that your average general PC performs very well these days.  I'm not talking Chrome book... but on $1000 hardware, TONS can be done.  That's a major shift from years past.  It's also cool to see games being developed for all classes of systems.   You no longer HAVE to have ugly graphics with lower to mid tier systems.  They've really optimized visuals for what I would consider "standard stock" equipment.  Sure, you don't get all the bells and whistles... but you're normally not suffering either.

No kidding... did you see the Zombie Episode?  The Ant-Man scene where he was infecting someone LOL  ;D That's too funny...

Absolutely love this series.  Great stuff

Anyone else checking it out?

Very cool!  So.... Are you going to buy this?   I think you have a ridiculous amount of time in Skyrim if I remember right.    You only had it on PC / Steam, right?

We went back and watched Black Widow again. It still held up and was really good. I don't know or understand what the complaints are against this movie.

It sucks that it hasn't performed as well in the box office. In my opinion, they did a great job.  It's definitely better than many others in the series.
#581
The theatre is definitely still good for that.  A night to get out and away from the norm if you need it or just want it.

As far as black widow, it seems that it made $353million world wide so far.

Has anyone checked out this animated series?  It's pretty good and the animation is well done.

The 1st episode is what if Captain America was captain Carter.  The 2nd so far  is what if t'challa was actually the kid that became star Lord.

If you haven't checked it out, they are worth a watch.

Thoughts, comments?  Post it up

@CreepinDeth  - Interesting... I have not heard of this one.  So this is more on the bleeding edge that has more up-to-date drivers that you need?  If I am understanding this right... it would be more on the Fedora side of the Red Hat equation?

I will check this one out.
#584
@CreepinDeth  - yes - KDE, Gnome, Mate...etc.  You're right on target.  Steam really seems to have supported Linux for a long time.  I don't know how many of the game requirements worked or went... but they were pretty early to the support scene.  At least regarding their app and platform.

We started using Mate desktop a bit more with Centos7.  I have not play tested it with 8 as much, but it offered a pretty good and clean experience.  If you have a chance, give it a try on a vm or separate machine.

@retro junkie --> I think I tinkered in 1999 and then started using Linux a little in 2000 or 2001... I believe it was.  It wasn't until recently that I really started to deep dive.  I've always been on the Windows side but have had to adapt for more microservices and devops styled automation.

@Polygon  --> I hear you.  I think I need to make a topic for the crowd on the other side  ;D  Microsoft is sure playing around.  The last few years have been a bit odd.  Especially on the privacy front.
#585
Woot, Glad to see you @Polygon;D

yeah...  the nagging part in the back of my mind is their track record of hardware.   The Steam Controller left a meh experience... and I'm hoping the controls for this unit are awesome.  Screen AND controls are my main Hangups.  However, Maybe they've learned from and improved upon the past.
#586
Good suggestion @Grindspine  - I'm taking a look into this game.  I remember passing it up before due to so many  other games.  My Ps3 collection still has many unplayed games.  Which of my collections don't anymore though?  Maybe that's another one for the 1st world problems topic.

#587
LOL @targetrasp I blame Nintendo as well... but I think someone did it before Nintendo, but I cannot remember who it was right now...
#588
While we have a master Linux topic here: The Linux Topic and a few other topics, I figure we need more Linux topics to keep the conversation rolling!

What is your favorite Linux Desktop, why do you use it, and what are your favorite apps to use with the desktop?

Maybe we can get @Polygon and @trkorecky to chime in on this one as well  ;D

Post it up!

Alright... I'm in.  I pre-ordered my spot.   I want this to be awesome  ;D

Alright... if you haven't done so, head over to www.google.com and check out the Doodle Champion Island Games.  It is a little fun way to waste a little bit of time.

@retro junkie  - that's definitely an interesting take... and a good one at that!

There's something interesting about the Loki series.  We can re-watch it several times.   Wandavision was not that way.  Falcon and Winter Soldier was good for at least another watch.   I found that to be interesting for a TV show.

@CreepinDeth yeah... I don't have netflix.  I cannot get myself to do multiple services... except.... Disney+ crept in there.

I saw that Disney deemed Agent Carter (and a couple other things I believe) as "not canon."  That's a little odd, but we don't really see Agent Carter deal with A TON of the material from other Marvel movies. Maybe it's the thought that "there's not much here, so no canon status for you?"
#595
LOL... looks like she did for this game?!

It looks like they are considering Black Widow a flop at this time... and ticket buying has dropped 67%.  Theatre owners are complaining about streaming starting the same time as the movie release.  According to some of the numbers, streaming didn't perform super well.  We are in interesting times with the pandemic... plus the movie was delayed a year, so some of the hype cooled.  There are several other complaints and others trying to figure out what happened.

Here's an article from yahoo:
With 'Black Widow' ticket buying suddenly drying up, growing questions for Disney's Marvel about what did it in - yahoo.com

We personally liked the Black Widow movie.  I thought they did a great job.  The credits scene was also very well done.  If you haven't seen it, I suggest checking it out.  It is not one of Marvel's strongest movies, but it's definitely worth the price of admission.

If you have seen Black Widow, Go here for the Black Widow movie topic.

We ended up doing the same thing.  We just rented it at home.  We tried to go to iMax, then iMax was down.  Then we tried to go to a regular showing, and it was 89% full  :o  That's hard to find a seat at that level.  We ended up renting it from home and can watch it any time from now until October when it becomes released on Disney+.  That's not too bad of a deal.  I do miss seeing movies in theatre... but it worked out well.  Good idea @CreepinDeth
#598
yeah... the processing is real on this one.  It's hard to sit back and think of all the possibilities... and then you start thinking is this even a real outcome and not another illusion of some sort.

Spoiler: ShowHide
Or maybe they're still on the train and Man Loki is in the brain of Girl Loki... or vice versa
   ;D

It seems like it's going to be awhile for Season 2 though.

@CreepinDeth - I used to be 100% against it.  I don't do it myself.  They seem to do it a bit better these days by many of the Virtual stores and abilities of these features across many platforms.  If a game is offered on a platform... and it's only a few dollars, it's not a big deal to buy it.  You're not going to have a million titles that are never played more than once, but you'll have titles you actually want to play.

However, prices (in many cases) are WAY higher than they used to be.  Some prices have come down, but look at the Neo Geo.   I get Metal Slug is offered on tons of platforms and is a bad example. But if it wasn't, I cannot blame someone for getting the rom and just playing it versus spending $2000+ on the title that's very hard to obtain. It simply doesn't make sense.

@targetrasp For Whatever reason, I am not familiar with either of those systems.  Game Television?  I felt like I once knew most of gaming.   I just googled it... looks like we need a Game Television topic at some point.
