I think every board needs to have a topic like this. I've been listening a lot to the Katamari Damacy OST (always brings a smile to my face, it's so weird!) and the Castlevania: Symphony of the Night OST. The SotN soundtrack is just so amazing, it's one of those soundtracks where I hear a song and pretty much know exactly what level I'm in.

Happy Belated Birthday Mai!

Glad to hear you had a good day.  :)

I forgot to put my birthday info in my profile, lol. I've been meaning to go back and add more.

Is there a list? I would be interesting in seeing to see if it makes sense for me to go ultrawide (and if there isn't a list, maybe we should start one on this board.) I do like having the extra real estate for work as well like Targetrasp mentioned.

Consoles aren't that powerful but devs are still making it happen one way or another because it's a great bullet point to have on the box. The latest 1080Ti/Vega64 graphics cards come really close at playing a lot of newer games in 4K/60FPS as well. I see that gap become even smaller with the newer cards this year.

Retro Gaming and Hardware / Re: DF Retro

The latest episode dropped and it's about the Sega Genesis Nomad, the predecessor to the Switch. Great comparisons between the two and not sure why it never occurred to me how many things were done there first before the Switch nearly 25 years later.

UHD=4K when it comes to monitors and TVs. So, yes, you're correct.

Aw yeah!!

Very happy to see you join Mega. Welcome to the boards.  :)

Definitely needs some clarification. One is an aspect ratio, the other is a resolution (amount of pixels HorizontalxVertical)

Ultrawide=21:9 aspect ratio
4K=3840x2160p resolution (traditional 16:9 aspect ratio that all TVs and most monitors come in)

3440x1440 is an Ultrawide aspect ratio as you mentioned. However, this can still be called a 1440p monitor because the vertical amount of pixels doesn't change, just the horizontal pixels. A 4K ultrawide would be 4300x2160? That's my guess based on some fuzzy math but I hope you get a clear picture of what an ultrawide 4K monitor would be like.
#578
Ultrawides will only gain traction if game devs start supporting it more. Because of consoles, you're probably going to see more games have 4K resolutions over ultrawide aspect ratios. However, I wouldn't be suprised if 2160p ultrawide monitors become more of a thing.
#579
It's a weird time for monitors. 4K is the next big thing but HDR is still behind HDTVs for some reason. Also, G-Sync/Freesync are muddying the waters a bit too.

I myself just want a color accurate 1080p screen like this - Dell Ultrasharp U2415

I think when it comes to monitors, most just get an inexpensive, 16:9/16:10 monitor and call it day since they already spent most of their money on the PC components.

Welcome back lamer! Happy to see another familiar face join.

I own the G502 and love it. I used to have the G5 but the left click button no longer had any resistance so I just upgraded. Has better weights than the G5 which I really like. The left and right click buttons feel much better to me as well. I should've upgraded much sooner.

It's such a solid show. It allows the characters to be much more fleshed out than a two hour movie. I'm almost done, just need one more episode.

Update: Just finished it tonight. Wow, this show delivered on all levels. I hope I'm not overhyping it but it's hard not to gush about this show. Hope more of you get to enjoy it as well.

The S7's and back have a different cable than the 8's forward.

ah, I misread your post then. I thought you meant that the S8s and S9s had different connections.

not to mention the charging cable is different on the 8's and 9's... I really wasn't thrilled having to have a special cable that almost looks like the other 40939530409320 i have laying around but is just a hair different...

Don't they both use USB-C?

General Discussion / Cobra Kai - Youtube Red Show
May 10, 2018, 11:54:30 PM
If you're a fan of the '80's Karate Kid trilogy, you'll absolutely love this show. Wow, this show is an absolute pleasure to watch. What I love about it is that it doesn't try to be like those older karate kid films. It's a well done continuation of the main characters and where they are now in life. I highly, highly recommend this show.

caveat - you do need a Youtube Red subscription to watch beyond episode 2. However, you can sign up for a free 7 day trial and binge it. Or if you have a Google Music subscription you get Youtube Red included.

I'm rockin the Pixel XL Deuce!

I prefer my android OS pure and unadulterated. I also love Project Fi as my service. My phone bill has never gone above $32 and has been as low as $22.

I thought I did manage my expectations. For sure I wasn't expecting greatness but when I watched it all seemed so... bland. Maybe I'll try again.

However, something that exceeded my expectations is Cobra Kai. Sooo good!
#589
I don't care for those things either but the positives outweigh the negatives for me. I enjoy living outside of the city.
#590
I am indeed a left-coaster and it's one of the reasons I love living here. So much is available. People out here love vintage stuff.
#591
I just couldn't get into the new ones. I watched 4 episodes and they didn't do it for me. Maybe I'll give them another chance. I'm also not a big fan of the new design. I do prefer the lions a little more squared up. The first 3D version that aired around 2000 was decent. I remember liking that one a bit.
#592
Yeah, it's a good player and has done well by me. Though, I think it's time to upgrade to keep up with my headphone obsession.

A lot of records these days are unfortunately really mastered horribly, so all of the advantages of vinyl disappear. Which is why I just keep an eye out for certain pressings/masters. My wife inherited a ton of records from her step-dad so we have a good starting point with a lot of classic rock.

I did go buckwild on record store day a couple of weekends ago. I do love going and hunting for records of albums I love. Almost like shopping for retro games.

Sale is over for anyone who sees this now. Hope you got in it.
#594
I deed!  :)

Can't wait to see what the results are.
#595
Loved it but it's hard to rank it or have a full opinion of it.

Spoiler: ShowHide
Because it's actually a two part movie. I don't know why it got changed from Avengers Infinity War Pt.1 but I can't really see it as a stand alone movie. Other than that, was great.
#596
Voltron was my jam. It's too bad the cartoon doesn't hold up and the original toys contain lead in the paint, lol.

I think I'm going to splurge on one of the anniversary sets for my birthday.
#597
The default drives that come with the PS4 are 5400RPM anyways, so an external HD shouldn't be much of a difference. Actually, SSDs barely improve speeds anyways so your experience is going to be consistent regardless.

I have an external for my Xbox 360 and I don't notice a difference. I'll probably get one eventually for my PS4.
#598
Prices are finally coming back down to MSRP. But, new cards are on the horizon.

I took the plunge and bought a GTX 1080. Everything looks great, however, I can clearly see now where my CPU bottlenecks in some spots here and there. Nothing too crazy though. This is the first time I've encountered this. Pretty good for a 7 year old i5.
#599
I enjoy just listening to the medium. It tends to have a distinct sound plus the artwork and packaging is cooler than CDs. However, I try to limit to what I buy these days. It's either first pressings (if I can afford them) or special, proper remasters done by certain audio engineers.

I love listening to music and spent a lot of money on a good setup for my music collection but I'm also ashamed that I haven't given any love to vinyl. I still have a basic audio technica player that does the job but there are much better players. Maybe by the end of this year.
