That's one of my favorite episodes and I still have the 32X/SegaCD combo you sold me, BV!  :)

I don't think the 32X would've stood a chance even if Sega focused on it. PlayStation was just around the corner and was going to crush it anyways in terms of 3D power. Had it come out a year or two earlier, maybe.

HDMI cables that are built well and are up to spec will all display the signal identically. It's digital, just 1s and 0s. But yeah, some cables are poorly made and will just cause issues. That's why I stick to Monoprice cables. Well built and inexpensive.

Spartanevolved brought over this RocketFish (Best Buy) HDMI cable... and we were under the impression is should look as good as a Monster cable. My PS3 was hooked up to the TV and we played Mortal Kombat X I think it was - the latest Mortal Kombat to come out on the PS3 at the time.  Colors were not as good and the outlines of characters were not as crisp.

The only think I could think of was... the PS3 was scaling back what it was sending across the cable.  Perhaps a transmission rate thing?  I don't know...

Did the picture look fine on Spartan's PS3?

I'm still keeping an eye out for a broadcast CRT like a Sony PVM. Best colors since they were made for actual broadcasts for TV. Retro games look superb from all of the screenshots I've seen.

SNES has a lot of great memories for me. Super Mario World and Turtles in Time were a couple of my favorites. You can't forget about all of those RPGs either.

Sounds good BV. Don't rush it if you don't have the time. We'll be okay.  :)

I use a 24" Vizio for my pc, my PS4, and Xbone and it only has one HDMI port. Unfortunately every HDMI switcher I've tried has been awful, so I end up just switching the actual cable.

But now I mostly only use the PS4 and I have a laptop now so I haven't looked into better switchers.

Sony consoles tend to have issues with switchers. For some reason, it has handshaking issues with TVs. PS3s were notorious for this and I still believe it broke the HDMI input on my old TV that I no longer have. Had to switch to Component since I didn't have another HDMI input.

My first guess would be the PS4 is the culprit but could also be the switcher or the cable. My roku did not like the ultra thin HDMI cables I got from Monoprice but worked fine with a normal sized one.

I loved the Sega Genesis and I feel I enjoyed it over the SNES. And even though the Sega CD and 32X were cool, it messed up Sega for the future. Still though, Sonic the hedgehog, Streets of Rage, Mortal Kombat (with blood), X-Men 1 & 2. Great franchises.

HDMI connectors might not seem like much but to add those could affect the form factor. People want thin bezels and small footprints. This means sacrifices need to be made and usually inputs/outputs are the first to go.

The problem now is there are 3 hdmi ports and a component. i have 4 4k devices and 3 1080p devices AND my hdmi switcher is only 1080p. a 4k switcher is not in the cards yet sooooo i'm either stuck with going back to the receiver or not using a 4k device...

Also, holy crap. All I have on my bedroom TV is a Roku and a PS4. I have cable but I just use the Comcast app on my Roku, saving me from having an additional receiver charge and taking up space.

If I had the money, I would have Lian-Li cases, but since I don't I really like Corsair cases. Not too flashy and are made to be real simple to build inside.

lol, I haven't used a Best Buy restroom yet. I'm usually in and out of there fairly quickly. I don't plan on using one now.

Interesting... so no emulation.

Actually, it's still emulation, just not software emulation like the SNES mini and other clones. It's hardware emulation. The FPGA chip is tuned to behave like the original SNES CPU, however, it's still not perfect and can display some errors. The video I posted goes in much longer length on how this achieved.
#581
Anybody getting one or even heard of this? This does not use software emulation like most clones and it isn't NOS of original hardware in a new chassis. It uses a special chip that can be tuned to run like the chips that were used back in the original system. So you can use your carts with it and play them on an HDTV with accuracy.

The rights to the IP itself. I'd imagine Nickelodeon agreed to a contract where Activision only had a few years to make a game and sell it.

There's also this.  >_>

That's what I use. The notification is handy to know there has been something going on while you look at or post in another thread.

I would be 100% fine with everything being digital if I didn't have to fight storage space problems on my Xbone. Discs are a hassle for PC games these days if you're hard drive is big enough. My gaming laptop doesn't even have a DVD drive.

External Hard Drives bro.

I prefer both. Digital for easy access, disc to preserve in case the hard drive fails or gets pulled from the digital store.

There's really only one main reason any game goes away from Steam. It's because the rights have been lost. Other reasons can be that a game is extremely buggy or is way too controversial to keep on the store but those are very rare.

Ugh, I hate those too! They make we want to punch babies!!

Not really... maybe.  :P

I think it happens when you first set up your Switch. You should reinitialize your Switch so you can hear it again.

Just kidding, don't do that, you'll lose all of your data.  :P

I do like that the ads load quickly. I hate the ones that load while I'm reading something and pushes everything below my eye level. So annoying.

AH... yeah.. I see what you are saying.  So Microsoft has none of these issues?

Nope. They're yours as long as you claim them while they're free. I still have all of my games that I got while I still had Xbox Live.
#590
From the people I know who've used both, they prefer discord but Slack is almost as good.

I don't play any Blizzard games so I don't have a battle.net account.
#591
I've never used discord but I use Slack. I think it's similar so I'll give it a shot.

Their way of communicating for online multiplayer does not seem very intuitive. I mean, I do get why they're doing it this way but it still doesn't seem to be conducive to a great multiplayer experience.

For those who don't know, you need to communicate through a smart phone app. You can't do it directly through the Switch.

They aren't free like on Xbox?  What do you mean?

Nope, there are strings attached.

  • They are free as long as you're still subscribed to PS+. If you stop subscribing you no longer have access to them.
  • If you no longer are subscribed to PS+ and decide you want to buy the game that you already received for "free" you're out of luck. You can no longer buy it because it will show up as purchased already

Nice!!

Let's try it out -

Woooo!!

I would say for me, it really depends on the game. Games with a bit more serious tone have more impact if they're depicted more realistically. Games where just the gameplay is the focal point, graphics are not that important to me.

Realistic graphics don't influence what I play. If something looks interesting then I will play it regardless of what platform or game type it is.

I've looked into Moviepass and it sounds enticing but I hear so many horror stories with how they are constantly changing terms of service and their customer support being non-existent. Basically, when it works, it's cool but if you have issues then you might have a terrible time.

It doesn't help that it's still a "concept".
#597
So there's two ways this could probably go down.

  • A general gaming section. Includes all console, handheld and PC discussion. Doesn't matter if it's retro or current
  • Dedicated Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo, Sega, PC & Misc. boards. Everything that is made by these 1st parties will fall in to their respective boards and platforms that were never popular can go under Misc.

I think trying to get granular is what's causing the over-analyzing.
#598
lol, just people on the internet. If I remember correctly, they like how smooth and accurate the shooting is.

Here's a review from Digital Foundry for the latest patch. They personally don't feel the motion controls are great but that's just one site.

#599
People are raving about the motion controls that were just recently implemented. I'll probably pick it up if it ever drops below $10.

General probably works. It'll probably get more traffic that way.
