@retro junkie --> You have no issues from your Mac texting to the group messages where there are Android users?  The laptops don't have WWAN chips (cellular chips with an esim or sim).  My iPhone does just fine... but MacBook... no go since the connection goes over WiFi.

Hm... you know what... I think text message forwarding got turned off... confirmed.  ???

@retro junkie  --> BTW.. you don't have to wait!  It's on the Nintendo EShop for Nintendo Switch!

I didn't notice that I missed the achievement "Metal Slug Attack" in Metal Slug on Steam.  As of writing this message, it is a 6.9% of players completed achievement.  I just got the achievement.

Essentially, you just need to defeat a boss with the Metal Slug Attack.  This is the attack where you send the metal slug flying in front of you and explodes on whatever it hits.  You can do this attack with your Fire and Jump button, hitting them at the same time.   It's a pretty easy attack, timing it to kill a boss is not always the easiest.

The easiest way is to do the 1st stage on easy.   Your mileage may vary... but get the metal slug, keep it and ensure you pick up the extra bombs on the way hidden in crates and with POWs that you rescue.   When you get to the boss, hit the boss with about 8-10 Cannon shots (bomb button).  For the 1st boss on easy, I used 10 shots.   I dodged the next 2 attacks (ducked and jumped)... and then performed the Metal Slug attack slamming the metal slug into the boss.

It worked, achievement received... and this is a pretty easy way to do it.

Here is a good guide and video to show how it's done as well.

Quote from: retro junkie on August 11, 2025, 10:24:24 AMPersonally I love the ability to instantly merge my iPhone "Messages" with "Messages" on my Mac Mini. I do group texts a lot. While sitting at my Mac Mini I can type something up and send without my phone and my big fingers issue.
If someone is using an Android or other ecosystem phone, the Apple ecosystem doesn't keep up well (meaning all messages on your MAC).  IE those texts will eventually sync and show in the list, but forget sending to their non-Apple phone (at least it hasn't worked for me). It works extraordinarily well when your friends / family are on the Apple ecosystem.  Boom... you can work from your laptop and not even have to pick up your phone if you do not want to.

Screen sharing.  Amazing.  At some point, I will post up a trick I learned to share from iPad to MacBook Pro via screen sharing where you can take notes (and create architecture diagrams on the fly, for example) on the iPad during presenting on your MacBook Pro via QuickTime.   I cursed QuickTime for years... YEARS.  And ... I have found something now that's insanely awesome.

Necro-bumping a post!!  @retro junkie see... this is why I am thinking of selling mine because at some point it will fail.  However, it's one of those things I'd had to part with anymore.  There's a lot of nostalgia behind it.  That's the same as my Neo Geo AES.

It's been awhile now since I have played my Neo Geo CD... a long while.  Is yours still out?

Is anyone else still rocking your Neo Geo CD?  If you're reading this and not a member - Join up, get in here on this and all discussions!

Retro Gaming and Hardware / Your Favorite Neo Geo CD game?
September 24, 2025, 10:51:47 AM
If you had to pick 1 game, just 1 game, the most re-playable game that is your favorite for the Neo Geo CD... what would that game be and why is it your favorite?

Post it up!

Quote from: retro junkie on November 19, 2023, 08:09:44 PM@BLUEVOODU to be honest, I have forgotten about this game. It is still a bit pricey even for the Japanese version, which is the best option. Not sure when, but maybe it will be in my sights some day.
(right now I am playing a bullet hell shooter on the NES)  :happydance:
@retro junkie You cannot forget about this game like @targetrasp  lol... Did you ever get it?

@targetrasp  --> please tell me you have played it by now.  You started this topic man!

Alright... it's time to Vote it up!  What is your favorite Counter-Strike version?

I've been playing Counter-Strike since it was a half-life mod in 1999... and have been back into Counter-Strike 2.  There's a ton to love and hate about this game! lol  :great: If you've played it, you know what I mean.  It's also the king of "Just One More."  ???

PC Gaming and Platform / Metal Slug Steam Achievements
September 24, 2025, 10:30:27 AM
Ok - I have Metal Slug on many platforms.   Steam offers achievements, of course.  Due to this, plus playing on Steam Deck and other resources, I also bought Metal Slug for a great deal on Steam.

With that, There is 1 achievement I'm having a hard time obtaining.  @SpartanEvolved knows what I'm talking about LOL  :great:   That is, beat the game without using a continue.  ???   There is a 2.1% all inclusive achievement rate for this achievement.  That means... 2.1% of players have achieved this.  I have not.  :'(

Have you ever completed Metal Slug without using a continue?

If you had a Steam Deck and you were thinking of upgrading to the Steam Deck OLED... would you buy the Steam Deck OLED OR would you wait at this period in time?  Why?

PC Gaming and Platform / Hallow Knight Silksong Released
September 24, 2025, 10:09:01 AM
Hallow Knight Silksong has been released!  This was a highly anticipated game!  The release was so highly anticipated, it ended up causing crashes to several gaming stores.

I don't have a ton of time into the original Hallow Knight.  It was definitely fun... and challenging. It appears many others agree as the new release crashed stores LOL  :great:   I don't see this happening very often for a digital distribution game these days.

Here's a wired article on those crashes.

Arcade / What was your 1st Arcade Experience?
September 24, 2025, 09:41:17 AM
Thinking back... a long time ago or even more recent times... what was your 1st arcade Experience?

For me... it was awhile ago.  I cannot say it was my 1st experience, but it was the 1st and most profound experience.  I was on a trip with my parents and happened across a new Super Mario Bros arcade machine.  I was hooked.  From this point on, I was hooked to arcades.  I had played other games on older home consoles, and enjoyed them.  There was something about Super Mario Bros that just resonated and clicked well.

What about you?  Thoughts ... comments... Post it up!

Arcade / Is Golden Tee still a thing?
September 24, 2025, 09:28:14 AM
It's been a long time since I've been to a Buffalo Wild Wings and ate inside the restaurant... pre-covid was the time frame.  However, a long time ago, my buddy and I would go there, get wings and beer and play Golden Tee.

Golden Tee was was never my favorite game... but it was fun at the time.  We would smash the stupid trackball (or roller ball) to drive and chip a like.  The thing that perplexed me - how the trackball never was greasy and slimy with wing and beer residue... LOL OR maybe I just didn't notice it  ;D

Did you play Golden Tee?  Is it still a thing?  What are your thoughts and comments?  Post it up!

ok - Social logins are back on this current (new) theme.  They are there again!

You can use Steam, Discord and Battle.net to login to the forums

That's correct, it was the small PS button.  It glows blue... and orange in some cases.  The orange is mostly for power related events.  LOL ... yes, this was mostly a blue light topic. However, you did bring up awesome points.

Your co-workers used it as a phone?!  That's a new one for me!

The PS Vita was one of my favorite handhelds.  It just didn't get support... and you're right, they couldn't figure out what to do with it.  I liked the PS Vita 10 times more than the PSP.  The PSP was cool, but just hard to get into for most ... anything.  This is another topic for another time, but I used to rock SOCOM Fireteam Bravo (and newer versions) on the PSP... and online.  What a fun game that was back in (starting in) 2005.

I'm not sure there will be a handheld like it unless the Switch starts going down that route.  Honestly, it's one of those times in gaming history that was awesome and probably won't be repeated. That's also ok, and gives great memories.

Right now, I am thinking of breaking down the forum into digestible Chunks.  What do I mean?  currently, we have the gaming forums where retro is it's own entire board with everything slammed in there.  This includes the Descriptions.  Another example is the Nintendo section.  It has the Switch, Switch 2 and many others crammed in there ... including the board descriptions.

I'm thinking of sub-boarding all the systems each in their own board in Nintendo (for example) to try to make things a bit cleaner for descriptions and in terms of URLs.  I've established "pretty URLs" not that long ago to try to do better on the search engine ranks.  This is also how we used to have things divided up, and I get the concern that many boards would look a bit under utilized due to activity.

Here's what the "pretty link" looks like for the Nintendo section:
https://www.chickendinnergaming.com/forum/nintendo-switch-2-switch-3ds-and-wii-u/

Instead, examples could be (removed https://www.chickendinnergaming.com/ from URLS as links are not real):
/forum/nintendo/
/forum/nintendo/switch-2
/forum/nintendo/swith
/forum/nintendo/3ds

In terms of retro... I don't know yet, I don't think we are ready to break everything out there either.  Trying to come up with a plan.

I would like to get fresh thoughts on this.  This is open to everyone... and I am tagging a several people here to try to ping them for opinions.  I appreciate your help, time and participation.  What I don't want to do is make the experience worse.  This is to try to balance certain objects and try to gain more participation

Quote from: retro junkie on September 21, 2025, 11:27:33 PM@BLUEVOODU i looked this up on Amazon and did not recognize the shmups. So instead I went for the Toaplan Arcade collections for the Evercade console. There are four volumes. I know most of the games on them. Familiar territory won me over. But I do have this on my bucket list.

That's pretty cool and I get that.   What won me over was something new lol... kind of funny it's the opposite.  I wanted to support something new too IN HOPES for more to be released  :happydance:   Pretty please release more  :great:

I ended up picking this game up as well.  Some of the Shmups I've kept my eye on disappeared lately.  I haven't seen restocks.  The price was not bad... and my experience is not super extensive yet with the game.  I did play it for about 30 minutes and it was fun.

It's a decently designed Shmup and plays pretty well.

I bought Ghost of Tsushima for the Playstation 5 and I have never played it.  It's still sealed.  The reason I got it is because the PS5 was extremely hard to get and the game was part of a bundle.  Bundles were a way stores used to help stop some of the scalpers... or at least move more product lol  :))  By the way, I used to call Ghost of Tsushima... Ghost of Sashimi  ;D

Ghost of Yōtei is now coming out October 2nd, 2025... and it looks interesting.  Ghost of Tsushima also looked interesting, I just never played it.  It sounds like the story has progressed and you are now 300 years after Ghost of Tsushima took place.

Amazon affliate link to game - https://amzn.to/3VMLy0R

I'm looking for opinions of both games and a reason to crack the game with my currently limited time.  Did you play Ghost of Tsushima?  Did you enjoy it?  Are you looking forward to Ghost of Yōtei?  Thoughts, comments... post it up!

I ended up pulling the trigger on this game... I'll create a topic on it at some point.  It's fun... it's a shmup lol  :great:

The price came down to $33-35... and it's been awhile since that happened.  I wanted to pick it up before it was not available anymore.

@retro junkie  Just a heads up, not sure if you're still interested.  I know it's not as low as I wanted, but some of these games just aren't dropping anymore like they used to drop.

The PlayStation Vita had a "blue light," Just like the Wii, that would go off during certain events.  You used to be able to message friends on your friend's list.  This would cause the blue light to go off, game updates, news, and other events such as successful game save uploads that would happen when the system saved to the PSN.

Most of those features are now done... closed down due to the support for the console ending.  However, you can still get the light to activate by turning on the game data upload to PSN.  The data uploads every morning (early) and kicks the blue light lol.

The interesting part, and what I really dug about the Vita, is that it made it so much easier to message friends.  It was much harder and disruptive to message on screen with the PS3, PS4 and PS5.   I would offload that to the Vita and it was also touch screen... so much easier to get a message out.   This feature is now gone with most other features as well when the console was shut down.  When you would get messages, this would also kick the blue light into gear.

Here is a way to get that old light kicking up again.  Do you remember this blue light?  Does it kick memories for you?  Thoughts... comments... Post it up!

Here are a couple topics on the Nintendo Wii Blue Light... and a little bit of nostalgia:

3 peat... I've been making progress on Angry Birds Star Wars on the Vita.  I plan to play play the PS4 version as well lol.  It might be a double platinum trophy situation.   I haven't looked at all the trophies yet to make sure it's still possible.  Hopefully that's the case!  :happydance:  :great:

General Discussion / Re: Superman 2025
September 17, 2025, 01:39:31 PM
I see what you're saying @CreepinDeth - I wondered that about the humor as well.  At the very least, it is noticeable.  How could they not after Guardians of the Galaxy... That movie and reactions to that movie changed a lot moving forward. I will say... some movies after Guardians didn't take the humor though I'll say thing, Age of Ultron does not feel like the same director / humor as Avengers.

It would be very hard for me to pick which director of the Marvel movies I like better/best as I like most for many different reasons... except the Eternals lol.  ;D

General Discussion / Re: Game Subscriptions
September 17, 2025, 01:02:05 PM
@CreepinDeth the MS Rewards thing is still going?  Feeling De Ja Vu here...  This used to be the program where you could use Bing search and earn real rewards such as Xbox Live (back in the day) ...etc?

I have drastically reduced subscriptions.   Outside prime, Nintendo and PSN... I believe I have cancelled all other subscription services.  Long story as to what caused the final cuts... but it's done. lol

I was curious though if other programs are worth it. The PSN (IMO) isn't really worth it anymore except for online play... Especially as they restructured the program.

Nice - I haven't had a chance to check out MX Linux yet.  Not sure I will for a bit.  I'm definitely interested in checking it out.

Interesting... it looks like there are about 5-7 potential Block Buster releases and Stunt Racer 64 was initially one of them.  It also looks like it was then saw a release.

I probably knew this forever ago... lol... I just don't remember these days.

@retro junkie That's awesome. R-Type is definitely worthy.  So the tariffs are impacting these games and the ability to bring the into the US?  Is this a reality right now or a "maybe not going to accept" orders from the US?

General Discussion / Re: CDG Weekly Meet Up - Thoughts?
September 17, 2025, 12:30:18 PM
Hey @retro junkie - we have not put this into action yet.  I was hoping at least a couple people would chime in that the time specified would work.

@Jack @Mai Valentine @targetrasp @CreepinDeth @mastermario @Grindspine  --> Would this time work for you?

Also, What did you do Retro?! LOL... it looks like you spammed someone or did something nefarious  ;D   You could always recreate an account.  I need to re-implement the login integrations mod to include this new theme.

Thank you @retro junkie - I appreciate it.  That's very insightful.

My experience with clone consoles ... is little to none especially in the last many years.  The ones that I've seen (that had something like Janky Mario on it)... never really fit the bill.  Those were all hook-up-to-TV type consoles though.
