1280x1024 is pretty old school lol.   I thought the 970 handled a lot more than that.  I'm probably wrong.  I get the using what you got thing though.  I've been doing that...  because I've built so many computers in a short time frame... I thought it was time to get more life out of everything.

970 can't keep up with high res textures since it only has 4GB of memory and even then, it's split up as 3.5GB and .5GB. If memory usage goes beyond 3.5GB then it has to access the rest, which is slower than the bigger memory pool. I don't know why Nvidia thought that was a good idea but it hurt them for sure once people found out.

My wife and I are still discussing whether we're going to have kids or not. We do love the thought of having one or two but we also really enjoy the freedom we have so we're not 100% sure yet.

We'll probably end up having one, lol.

Yep, I just searched the store for Korra and it's not there. I have that one as well. I think all I've done is put 5 minutes on it, lol.

General Discussion / Re: Ads and Affiliates

I want to say that I got an ad every time I visit the home page but now it's intermittent. But not sure if that's how it's supposed to be or if it's a bug.
#605
Yep, I would chalk that up to nostalgia. A lot of the games don't hold up well in my opinion but the novelty is strong. Most wouldn't care to get a full CRT set up to play these games or know where to start with PC emulation.
#606
Maybe eventually. The developers did a great job squeezing this game down for the Switch. Not sure if I'd be willing to sacrifice all of the fidelity that comes with the PC version.

I don't seem to get any ads now. Not sure about anyone else.

Nevermind, just got a playasia one.

1280x1024

That's right, I've gone old school, lol. Actually, the reality is my GTX 970 struggles with games like Rise of the Tomb Raider and other graphic intensive games. This allows me to keep playing games at ultra settings/60FPS. I don't mind it at the moment.

LOL... do it now, Creepin.

Nah, lol.

I think some of the recent Transfomer games from Activision have been taken down. Legend of Korra and Deadpool might've been taken down as well.

So moral of the story is don't have kids? lol, just kidding.  :P

Ocarina was okay in my opinion. It wasn't a true remaster. They mainly just bumped up the polygons and textures on Link and a few other characters. Besides that, it was the same, which is fine because it's Ocarina but I expected a little more.

Even Nintendo doesn't really get it right. Controllers have short cords, the aspect ratio and colors can be off, short supply, etc.

The thing that helps Nintendo the most is nostalgia, presentation and their strong 1st party games. A lot of the other companies that have tried don't own as many properties, so they get the games that don't have high royalties. Also, emulation software isn't as strong because they're not as popular. Besides that, most of these retro knockoffs are pretty much the same as the NES/SNES Classic.

It's my only current gen console. I haven't actually played much on it and PS+ turns me off. Don't feel like paying for multiplayer anymore and the free games aren't really free like they are on Xbox. But I don't own an XB1, so I guess it is, lol.

General Discussion / Re: Black Panther Movie

My fear was the movie would be over hyped because of it being a black super hero OR completely criticized because Black Panther was created by two white guys. It's pretty commonplace for comics and Sci Fi to tackle social issues - Captain America curb-stomping Nazis , Kirk and Ohura kissing, so I personally have difficulty finding the movie ground-breaking. Comics have been speaking out for the disenfranchised since well before I was born, and I've been a fan since I could read, this just doesn't seem new to me.

I do appreciate the fact that the movie is bringing more attention to the genre and hope that it serves as a vehicle to bring a wider audience to a genre that has championed tough subject matter and spoke out against oppressive norms for decades.

For sure, but the difference is that Hollywood hasn't caught up to the diversity in comics until now, hence the huge excitement. Even then, there's still a lot more left to explore. It's one thing to see these heroes on paper, but seeing them in live action brings a whole new dimension to them. You get to hear them speak and move. It becomes a little more realistic and that's why super heroes are great. They embody what we wish was real. Except for the evil stuff, lol.

Wonder Woman and Black Panther would not have been successful in an earlier time. They would have probably been made in a stereotypical fashion.

Thank you for the heads up on this Movie... I haven't seen it yet, BUT I plan on going maybe 2 weekends from now.    I've been wondering how good the movie is / would be.  Was a little hesitant to go due to the Hype.

Going to see it now :D

Nice!  :)

Anyone watch this yet? Saw it opening weekend and thought it was a really solid movie with very few flaws. Not sure if it matches the hype but it gets close. Michael B. Jordan really drives this movie to greatness.

I seriously hope there's a sequel.

Smart Phone advancement was so fast that there's not much to add at this point. Not until something outside of the smartphone arena becomes a necessity. Not surprised that dumb phones are sort of making a come back. It's retro, lol.

So would everyone suggest creating a new category called "The Market" and have 3 boards:
1.) Console / handheld Deals
2.)  PC Hardware and Games Deals
3.)  Movie / Media Deals

Is that what you are thinking?   I'm sort of leaning to merging Movie / Media deals in with Console / handheld ... What media exactly?   Hm... might need to brain storm a bit more on this.  Good suggestions... thinking of how to implement right.

That list is how I was imagining it in my head. You could move Movie/Media deals in with Console since most people probably view their Blu-rays/digital movies on a console anyways.

Quotespeaking of mods... There is a mod I'm looking into right now.  It would be the 2nd mod installed on this forum if installed... but it allows embedding like this.

do you see embedding super useful?  This mod would make embedding possible for a TON of different services.

I like it because then I wouldn't have to open a new tab to view the video posted. I'm a big fan of not having to leave the page you're on if it isn't necessary.

It did not, fortunately. It was fairly clean when I got it. No muck or anything. I still wiped it down with a clorox wipe as I do with any used things I receive though.  :)

I got really lucky when I got mine. I paid about $60 with around 10 games.

Yeah, a lot of these games don't hold up well but they were technological marvels at the time. That's what makes this series so fascinating. My favorite is the episode.

lol, actually, rechargeable batteries are much better now so I might give it a go. But that AC adapter is a game changer.  :D

Is it possible to embed youtube videos? I know you can link to them but some forums allow you to actually watch the video in the thread. Not a big deal but a feature I think is really cool.

Anybody else familiar with this series? It's a sub-series of Digital Foundry (who have some great technical videos.) What's great is that it's not just a nostalgia video, it actually goes back and dissects the technological techniques used to make these older games. I love it and I recommend any other retro fans check it out.

The latest episode is on Panzer Dragoon for the Sega Saturn.

That's why I mentioned PG13 type language and definitely not directed towards people. I'm in the camp that people can have intelligent conversations and still use curse words to convey the message well. But if people start getting nasty just for nastiness sake, then it would be time to crack down.

Video games range from E for Everyone to Mature so there might be some topics that will be difficult to discuss without side stepping some of the material. It would sound like people are walking on egg shells.

However, like I mentioned in the retro thread, this is your board BV. I'll be fine with whatever the general rules are.  We'll make it work. :)
#625
Is this trying to be a family friendly board like EGA? Not that I mind but I feel other forums thrive a little more when there's less restriction on cursing and whatnot. PG13 type stuff though, not overboard nastiness.

Search the store. If there's no store page then it got taken down. Sometimes the store page will be up but the option to buy is gone.

But, that means I would have to search over 700 times for my list.  :'(

I bought one at launch and it's alright. Bought it because I was hyped for the Ocarina remaster. Besides that, the games were more of the same that don't really interest me. So I haven't really touched it for a long time.

I tried the 3D at first and learned real quick it wasn't for me, so I've never really used it.

I really want to build a new machine with the Intel i5-8400 chip. However, my system that turned 7 years old last month is still doing decent.

I might go laptop though for general PC use in the meantime though. For the price of a graphics card, I can get a great laptop.

I don't know if there is a right answer to this question though haha.

Agreed. Ultimately it's BV's decision. I'd be fine with whatever it ends up being.  :)
