Ok. So we are saying Xbox 360 and PS3 stays in current.... wii,ds  falls off to retro. Wii U, 3ds and switch  are current.  Except... 3ds still plays da...  :-\

Well, what I'm saying is the following go to retro -

  • PS3
  • 360
  • DS
  • Wii

As for the 3DS playing DS games, I personally wouldn't count backwards compatibility. All of the current gen systems have some form of BC but they wouldn't be considered retro.

I don't consider these three systems retro. Anything before that, I would. I mean, hell, the Xbox 360 game servers are still running.

What if the servers are still running in 20 years? I don't think this would be a good metric to consider something retro or not but that's just me. PS3 servers are being shut down more quickly than 360. Hell, there are some current gen servers that are being shut down now and people are pretty pissed about that.

When the PS5 comes out, the PS4 won't be a decade old. Maybe 6 or 7, so I wouldn't consider it retro until the PS6. Normally, I would agree with the 2+ generation argument, but the jump from SD to HD makes it a good cut off point in my opinion.

I guess you've got to ask yourself...

do you consider the song "My Humps" by the black eyed peas retro?

That's... an oddly specific example to use in your analogy.  :)

These consoles are over a decade old. In technology years, that's a long time. I would consider them retro. Especially since they're the last to support the old 4:3 aspect ratio format.

For now, GPU and memory manufactures NEED to increase production capacity. That's currently the only fix for this in the short term and I feel that it's only a matter of time before it starts to effect the sales of other components.

Unfortunately, that's not going to help even in the short term. Mining is dependent on GPUs and the more you have, the faster you can mine coins. So just ramping up will not stop miners from buying the entire supply. They will just build more mining rigs.

Plus, it's not that simple to ramp up manufacturing. The components needed to make a GPU are not abundant.

Gaming Deals could have sub categories for PC and Console? Might help the section stay neat and help people know whether the deal is for them or not.

HM... good idea - let me think on that one... what do you think of creating a new category called "The Gaming Market"... and move the gaming deals, pcdeals... and maybe creating a buy, sell, and trade boards on our boards.  The buy/sell/trade portion are thoughts at this time... not sure I want to invite that here yet or not.  There's some ugly stuff that can come from it.  There's a pretty cool upside to it as well.  Thoughts?

A buy/sell forum probably wouldn't be something that would be utilized these days. Games are mainly digital now so I don't know if it would be a popular board. Plus, all the other responsibilities that come with it. I would say that one can be skipped.

But you could probably break up the deals section with console, PC and movie/media deals.

I still have mine. Picked it up on ebay with the AC adapter. There's no way in hell I was going to be changing batteries out of that thing. Mostly to play in bed anyways.

Bought one randomly when I saw it at my local Target a while back. Still sealed, not because I think it'll be worth something in the future but because I just prefer not to open it. Plus PC emulation is ahead of Nintendo's own emulation software so I rather play these games there.

Can't totally blame publishers for the prices. Cartridge prices are significantly higher than blu-rays. However, digital only games should be priced accordingly.

I have a Switch. Before it was even announced, I kept thinking to myself how I would just love to play a high budget game in my bed. The only thing is that it's just a regular Tegra X1, so ports of games are a downgrade overall. I actually haven't played it at all since I got it. My wife has been playing Zelda mainly.

I'm hanging on to my GTX 970 as much as I could. I even downgraded my monitor in order to keep up with newer games.

However, I think this is a great time for AMD and nVidia to innovate. Looks like AMD is cranking out some interesting APUs that are around $100 and can do gaming decently. No way would one replace my GTX 970 but the future looks bright in my opinion.
