It's an early arpg a little like Zelda, but not nearly as good, maybe more battle of Olympus - faded memories here too...

I need to pick this title back up, it'd probably sat since I posted last. I will say the Ikari games haven't aged well at all.

that's going to be a jerky mess. I'm going to put all these retro consoles into archival cases and not bother. the nes and snes are the only ones that people have spoke highly of.

I was such a great game. I'm ashamed I didn't finish it (and I may still go back to it). There's a mixture of stealth and finesse that most games fail at (in my humble opinion) that this one really gets right. I'm horrible at both, and prefer to jump into the thick of things but the lack of skill that play style demonstrates is punished harshly by this game. I rage quit often (because I do like to just jump into a fight) but I still had a ton of fun with this game. I can't imagine anyone not getting $10 worth of fun out of it.

ha, i'm always looking for ways to keep organized and prioritize information. I get so focused on one thing for a while other's areas suffer. As I write this I realize the phone messages at my extension haven't been answered in over a week.

Slipknot and Five Finger Death Punch are probably the most successful metal bands in the last two decades, make a great starting point.

bromance... maybe a mild adoration for some serious skill...

@BLUEVOODU I'm going to have to PM you a cellphone number to text when you're firing something up. My push notifications have gone out of control so I've had to whittle them down to this app for work and text, otherwise my phone buzzes constantly. I always see these things too late!

I grabbed their buy 2 get one free on last gen stuff, and God of War.

Metal is a lot like pizza for me. It's all good, or at least tolerable (looking at you Little Ceasears) but few really stand out. Austrian Death Machine isn't something i'd rattle off as a stand-out but I wouldn't turn it off.

If my virtual console games would move from console to console i'd be interested.

General Discussion / Re: Attack on Titan

Titles like AOT are gateway animes. I used to make fun of my friends that watched animes until I was made to sit down and watch Cowboy Bebop. Before that I'd seen some of the Ghibili stuff and Akira but wasn't interested. After I started liking Bebop, I started seeking out other titles. Dragon Ball Z, Naruto, One Piece, were next, followed by stuff like Inuyasha, Full Metal Alchemist, and then some of the older stuff Ghost in the Shell, Akira (rewatched and enjoyed), and then whatever was on Netflix. After I started subscribing to Crunchyroll.

If you start with one of the big animes that translates well and is popular in the US and slowly branch out into the more obscure it's easier to digest and you actually learn a little bit. Anime has a lot of really solid writing. Heavy themes like love, friendship, honor, duty, and perseverance can really tug on the heart strings. Japanese folklore is pretty awesome too and finds its way into many of the animes.

There is some odd crap that doesn't translate well at all but the bigger titles help ease you into some of the colloquial stuff, slang, puns, double meanings, etc. that you'll eventually start to pick up on. To me its kinda like trying to jump into Monty Python. If you started with the Meaning of Life you'd never watch another one.

Drive capacity is the only limitation. You MIGHT get 20 games per TB on current gen if you buy a lot of the big titles (COD, Red Dead, GTA, etc.). I cant say I've ever purchased more than 100 games during the time a system is on the market, but I continue to purchase afterward.

Digital content relies on online services. After those services go down what do you do? How would a collector continue to add to the system after the life span? How would I get my collection back in 5 - 10 years when the majority of hard drives start failing?

I can't help but laugh!

I never have this kind of problem until Christmas... I'm sure it's all the temp work going on in the shipping sector...

Last year, my kid's vanity came from amazon with the top piece cracked down the middle. The box looked perfect but it had to have hit the ground from a really high position to make a 2 inch piece of wood (well wood chips wrapped in laminate) crack clean through about 18" long.

I know people are pretty down on Gamestop. They take advantage on trades, they treat their employees pretty crappy, they make it difficult for the smaller boutique stores, etc. I will give them credit for trying to stay relevant in the retail space. Their online presence has been getting progressively better, they've tinkered with expanding their inventory to gaming related items (and in some cases still trying to see what fits), and they've included a retro offering online. A few years ago i gave them a second chance and have been mostly glad I did.

They are being competitive when sales at the moment. At times Best Buy eats their lunch, but at least for thanksgiving and black Friday there's some reasons to check GameStop out.

199 1tb ps4 / Spiderman or 199 Xbox one s 1tb w/ Minecraft
$50 gift card with the purchase of any new console (outside of the above mentioned)
299 switch w/ Mario kart preinstalled
$38 bops 4 @SpartanEvolved (really just riding BVs joke till it's dead)
$17 god of war
25 farcry 5 (bestbuy is cheaper right now)
20 diablo 3 (only xbox one and ps4)
10 horizon zero dawn complete (if anyone in the world doesn't already have it do yourself a favor and snatch it up)
several headsets 1/2 off
crash trilogy 29.99
29.99 sea of thieves (should be awesome with a group of friends)
99.99 preowned 32gb wiiu (although i feel whoever wants one has one - cheaper than replacing controller though)
free with rebate 4gb slim 360 pre-owned (69.99 visa prepaid card)

the store credit on systems and 199 bundles seem to be all over, and there's a game or two bestbuy is doing better on, but there are some deals to be had. The biggest test will be if the online portion works for the black friday sale. I remember a year or two ago i had a heckuva time getting best buy and gamestop and toys r us to work right. Most have some issues, with my highest rate of success still being amazon.

Could licensing be the hold up?
I was thinking about that, everything i bought on VC has a specific system attached. the 3ds stuff only works on the 3ds, wii on the wii. I can't pull my wii games over to my wii u but there's tons of emulators that can run all that crap on all those different consoles.

No it's not...

HA must be payback for woo!

if I had it to do over again i'd get it for the switch.

I've been so spread out I've not focused down on it anymore.

I'm picking up these games as I'm Christmas shopping. I'll get all this crap for the family, or kids, or whatever, and grab something for me on a whim. Its been a weekly thing for a while now that really needs to stop, but I've not been able to control it.

These artsy games seem like something I'm supposed to like because I'm grown up, and supposed to have refined tastes, and understand the emotion and all that other puke that the artist is trying to convey. When dissected, these artsy games it all boil down to mediocre game play wrapped up in a story or trippy visuals.

Games, beer, Movies, coffee, food; all have this artsy, indie side that I'm always shamed into trying. In Asheville I could hit a brewery a day and not go to the same on in a month. Out of all the crap they offer there may be one or two beers that I really enjoy, but the same thing can be said for bud light, corona, guiness, shocktop, blue moon, etc. etc.

I guess what i'm trying to say is these games (and beers, and foods) are neat distractions but its hard to beat PBR, Pizza, and Zelda.

There's some ok pre black Friday deals going on. I got this kids headsets for 25 each at bestbuy, got overwatch and farcry 5 for 19.99 each. 12 months of ps+ for 39.99...

Still nothing huge, even the pre-black Friday ads aren't insane, maybe amazon will blow us away...

I picked up the SNK 40th anniversary collection for the switch over the weekend. There's already a topic in the switch section if anyone wants to know how blah the game really is
#654
they all are 1080p and have been adapted to work with the pro controller. Guerilla Warfare is now a twin stick shooter... there's some good points, but it can't be a mistake that they didn't plaster the box with the games, it's just not a big selling point... kinda like the playstation classic... another topic, another rant
#655
Yesterday I impulse bought SNK 40th Anniversary Collection. I knew it was likely disappointing, but got it anyway.

The box cleverly hides what's included. The only identifiable character on the cover was the ship from Alpha Mission, the rest I couldn't make any sense out of. On the back all that is mention is Ikari Warriors and Crystalis a la "Enjoy some of SNK's finest classics in 1080p, from Crystalis to Ikari Warriors." Fans with a memory much better than mine can pick out most of the games from the box art and in game shots on the back but most gamers wouldn't be able to identify much, if any.

Included are Alpha Mission, Athena, Crystalis, Guerrilla War, Ikari Warriors, Ikari Warriors II: Victory Road, Ikari III: The Rescue, Iron Tank, P.O.W., Prehistoric Isle, Psycho Soldier, Street Smart, TNKIII, and Vanguard with claims that Chopper Fantasy, Munch Mobile, Sasuke vs Commander, Time Soldiers, Bermuda Triangle, Paddle Mania, Ozma Wars, Beast Busters, Search & Rescue, and World Wars will be added mid December.

Adding another lot of games will help to ease the sting of paying $40 for a 14 game compilation, but most of the add ons i've not heard of. This contents of this game seem to be SNKs B ranked arcade and NES / Famicon game list. I'm sure theres some mix of liscensing costs and stepping on other recently released nostalgia based products but it makes for a dissapointing collection.

The upside is the rewind feature. The arcade ports make staying alive for long periods of time difficult. Even in early stages, games like POW can suck all your lives away in one section. Being able to rewind and rework is Game Genie level cheating BUT rewarding. It feels a little like getting payback for all those lost quarters so many years ago.

Unless I get sucked into Crystalis I wont play this for long. Crystalis was the tipping point in my decision to purchase. I dig the Zelda-esque adventure rpg games and don't remember playing Crystalis when it came out, and I really didn't miss a lot of NES stuff. I'm saving that after I get my fill of the other games in hopes of stretching out the experience a bit.

that'll be going into rotation!

yep but it looks like i'm hours too late!

I completely spaced, I can play tonight if anyone is up for it

I've not seen a lot of hype this year. I think that the economy could actually be too good, in that there's just not as much need to encourage spending. I think there'll be a lot of smoke and mirrors.

What does go on sale will be things like last quarters games, old or sub par tv models, holiday stuff,etc... While there's hardly a need to encourage spending, there is a need to clear out "dated" or slow moving product.

I'm praying i'm wrong
