I can solder pretty well but this guy puts the kids in a Foxconn sweatshop to shame. what he does in about 30 seconds would have taken me at least 5 minutes.

My assumption is that when your business model relies heavily on trading physical copies of games, they've had to branch out since digital. There's a lot of figures, shirts, board games, etc. but I'd say the store is still 60- 75% games. They've had to adapt so they can remain relevant. At least now they've realized that putting the collectables in the front of the store allows for easy theft, so the stuff has been all pushed to the back. Now when you go in you don't have to wade through it.

I'm thinking that I'll find a used one somewhere... the nes and snes classics are easy to get now, maybe the mini will flounder after the holidays or everyone who gets one for christmas opens it and realizes its not awesome and pawn it off

Ahhh MVS. I had a one slotter that the kid's mother made me get rid of. I gave it to my little brother for safe keeping and he sold it off. now I wish I just pulled the board out of the machine and stuck it in a closet somewhere till the succubus was gone.

I'm sure turning an mvs into a console is cake now, but when i had my cabinet it was a messy DIY project.

I just did an ebay search, one slot boards are sub $50 but consolized stuff can get over 700 bucks. an aes and sticks can be had for 400 and that mvs to aes convertor is 300 ish... it almost seems like buying an aes, getting a convertor, and loading up on mvs games (when they should up at the right prices) is the way to go. it's nuts how a 25 year old console is still pulling half it's retail used. boxed stuff (still used) is double retail, i could only imagine what a sealed one goes for.

you can not trust gamestop to do anything at the store level.

@retro junkie started talking about that weird 3ds game project x zone, and I decided to get 1 and 2. Somehow my closest GS had them both so I did the pick up in store option. I got the email that says we're searching for your item, and then hours later I got the email that says we've got your item ready for pick up. I get to the store, and the guy pulls one off the shelf and says he doesn't have the second one. I go back next day to talk to the manager and she's able to find the game, which was also on the shelf. I'd imagine theres some sort of push notification, email, smoke signal, something that alerts these stores to pull an item and ship or hold it... I'm imagining line level "clicks through" or whatever it takes to stop the reminders without actually performing the action.

the cd part made for better music and some actual voice work.

the only other thing I remember was you could play with all three characters on the sega cd version. Maybe the stages were a little better...

cd did a lot of trickery to make games look a lot better... remember Silpheed? The Polygon shooter that looked awesome until you figured out the backgrounds were just streamed from the cd. it was essentially cheap green screen trickery. The level was moving in the background while your ship stayed in the same square.

was actually considering buying the switch version since it had an exclusive cd soundtrack on top of everything else, however it seems likely vita was less mass produced

@retro junkie I just walked out of Walmart's gifty section and they had a Reubicks Cube w/ only 4 panels per side...

I never could finish a real size one. Our kindergarten teacher had one that she'd send home with a different kid every night promising us something like $5 if we brought it back solved. As far as I know no one every did it. I think towards the end of the year I threatened moving the stickers.

For those keeping a count .. We've got 6 (5 of which are completely off unrelated) viable topics we can make of this thread.

Wii discontinuing online functionality
Metal Topic
Difference in original and remastered (fighting urge to mention star wars...)
box sets
Lars ruined Metallica (attempting to incite a riot)

lawsuit (topic adjacent)

I mention this because I tend to jump off topic rather suddenly with the loosest of segues and am banking this example including two of our charter members so when we do get busy and I get called out for it, eh screw it I'm already somewhere else!

If there was a US release at 100 - 150 I think it'd look at it pretty hard.

@CreepinDeth - I've been thinking over how to start the Metal thread for the last 20 minutes, during which time YouTube slowly progressed from Mega Deth to Primus... it's a big jump for 20 minutes but it was a nice little trip over songs I'd completely forgotten about. Jesus Built My Hotrod will now be in heavy rotation in my garage play list... It also brought up some crazy questions like does dire straits use the f word for gay in their money for nothing video??? and why does almost no one use a talk box?

And just like that we're back off topic, much like my post. It just goes to illustrate my attempt at a point that maybe someone else should start said topic COUGH COUGH @BLUEVOODU @CreepinDeth @Grindspine My youtube and my mind is meandering

I just realized I hadn't listen to Countdown to Extinction or Rust in Peace in a good 20 years, so I started digging through my old CDs. Rust in Peace was no where to be found and Countdown was trashed, so YouTube!

This created a trip down the metal rabbit hole, Megadeth, Pantera, Judas Priest, Death, King Diamond, and Iron Maiden, to name a few. I got back and revisit the 80's and 90's often but the 80's is always the awesome pop music (yeah I can't believe I just said awesome and pop music together either) and the 90s for the grungy Seattle sounding stuff. Classic Metal just doesn't get the recognition it deserves. Except for the overrated crap known as Metallica...

Don't crucify me... Metallica was good but Lars ruined it for me when he led the charge against Napster. Now it seems Nintendo is pulling a Lars (haha steered it back on topic) and as much as I love Nintendo I hate what they're trying to do. I've seriously hated Metallica since their part in the downfall of Napster, similar could happen with Nintendo.

I wonder what happens to the physical copies of fortnite when the servers go offline? will it still be insanely expensive due to rarity alone or once there's nothing to play does it lose appeal
#688
The AES stuff I can see.

I'm still attempting to talk myself into getting another AES. The argument I keep tripping over goes something like this "an AES and 5 games I want or a PS2 and 500?" Granted, that's a lot of shovel ware but the 5 games I'd buy and the AES would cost about what the 500 ish ps2 games I don't have and want would cost.

I downloaded it, forgot about it, then played a game waiting for someone. The first part that downloaded was the fortnite rip-off. I ran around trying to figure out the controls and got wasted by the first person I didn't see.

I absolutely hate the choice not to have some sort of campaign if for no other reason than to get a firm grasp on the controls and an idea of what each gun does without dealing with the annoyance that is getting your head shot off.

I haven't played it since, only for that one game. At some point I'll get back to it, there's just more for me at the moment.

I really liked the local coffee shops until the clientele became so obnoxious and politically charged that I couldn't stand to go in anymore... and I went to a liberal arts college...

Now it's the Superior brand crap that supplies the hotel or I'll order some Raven's Brew stuff from Amazon every once in a while. I may just like it because of their crazy names.. so far my favorite is
