A Winner Is You / Astro's Playroom Platinum Trophy - PS5
December 19, 2021, 09:26:38 PM
This game wasn't too hard to platinum.  I had to look up some of the hidden trophies... others I found on accident by screwing around for fun.

If you play this game, here are a couple good sites for the trophies:
https://www.eurogamer.net/articles/astros-playroom-trophy-list-how-unlock-hidden-dlc-trophies-7058
https://psnprofiles.com/guide/11237-astros-playroom-trophy-guide
https://www.pushsquare.com/guides/astros-playroom-all-trophies-and-how-to-unlock-the-platinum

If you have a PlayStation 5, this game comes free and is worth a play through.  It's decently fun.  I also created a topic for the game here:

General Discussion / Re: Hawkeye!

Hawkeye really has taken some interesting turns.  The thought that Clint did some not-so-savory things is pretty clear.  I dig this series... the LARP scene is pretty funny.  SHHHHHnnnnnnngggggg

One of my favorite parts so far are:
Spoiler: ShowHide
When she asks Clint why he has the hearing aid in so many words... and then there's a montage of his battles and explosions.  lol  ;D

The other part I don't understand is ... In Avengers and other movies, Hawkeye melts through enemies like butter.  He had a more rough time in Age of Ultron... resting at the end.  As Ronin, he was doing the same thing.  Maybe he lost some of his care... but he seems to be having more of a rough time fighting in Hawkeye.

I have an older LG Plasma TV (maybe 12 -13 years old) that I am SUPER reluctant to give up.  The colors are awesome... the screen, though 1080p, still looks awesome in my opinion.  It has actually stopped me from buying LED tv's in the past... as well as stopped me from upgrading recently.  Side note, there are a couple tv's I'm looking to maybe move to in the future though.

With that... has anyone ever noticed a quality different in HDMI cables?    I'm sure my LG has a very old HDMI version "compatibility," though I'm not sure this actually makes a difference.  The 1st time I  noticed a difference was with a Rocketfish cable @SpartanEvolved brought over many years back when we were playing Mortal Kombat on the Playstation 3 in 2011(ish).  The screen looked pretty harsh  and there were weird solid shadowing effects to white text.   I haven't really tried other cables except my old monster m1000 hdmi and a couple BlueJeans hdmi cables.  They all worked well and I didn't see this ever again... UNTIL... I recently bought a Monster M-Series 3000 HDMI cable for my Playstation 5.  The cable states it's HDMI 2.1 compatible... but I thought most HDMI (if not all) are backward compatible.  Needless to say, I'm returning the cable.  I need to find something these days that will work with the TV as my old Monster M1000 cable is now breaking.  I might try to invoke the lifetime warranty and just get it fixed.

Has anyone else ran into these issues?  In the past, it was thought Digital cables either work or they don't.  I've now ran into 2 different brands (at least) and different technologies... that have somewhat shown a counter to this thought.    The Rocketfish cable could have been a newer version of HDMI as well.... though I also downplayed it to a Rocketfish issue.

I was really happy with this movie.

You know... I would love to give the creators a remake of Avatar the Last Airbender live action movies.   This movie showed what they really could've done with Avatar (not blue people).

Yo! @Grindspine - let me see if I can get away for a tad bit of gaming.  Not sure at this time.

What are you looking to play?  Man.. I haven't played of games in awhile.  Those aren't up to date... but switch and other stuff should be ready.   I'll let you know.
#758
We just watched it on Disney+.  I thought this was really well done.   I'll reserve more comments for after you watch it, @CreepinDeth  since @targetrasp is waiting to buy his awesome steel book.

I just received the following email for the Steam Deck ... it looks like it's delayed:

QuoteThe launch of Steam Deck will be delayed by two months. We're sorry about this—we did our best to work around the global supply chain issues, but due to material shortages, components aren't reaching our manufacturing facilities in time for us to meet our initial launch dates.

Based on our updated build estimates, Steam Deck will start shipping February 2022. This will be the new start date of the reservation queue—you will keep your place in line but dates will shift back accordingly. Reservation date estimates will be updated shortly after this announcement.

Again, we're sorry we won't be able to make our original ship date. We'll continue working to improve reservation dates based on the new timeline, and will keep you updated as we go.

To view your updated expected order availability and FAQ, please visit the Steam Deck store page.

Cheers,
The Steam Team

I saw that coming.  Looks like those ahead of me in the queue will get theirs late... which means I will get mine later.  My order was already slated for q2 2022.

It's almost out of theaters now... I was hoping to see it in theaters... but looks like we won't make it.  Unless it stays in theaters a bit longer.  The movie looks really cool.  The trailer is pretty awesome as well.

#761
@CreepinDeth you know...  I never really got into this game.  I am probably one of the only ones.... But It just doesn't float my boat.   I know it's a widely popular game.

Did anyone see Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings??  I totally missed this movie.  I don't see anything on Disney+ yet for a release to the platform.  They also did not do a digital launch release while it was in the theaters.

I heard this movie was pretty good... pumped to check it out in the near future... whenever it hits Disney+

It looks like a few Marvel movies have been pushed back (again):

General Discussion / Re: Loki - The Television Series
October 18, 2021, 04:53:57 PM
@retro junkie - it really looks like it's shaping up to be that way.   The latest Marvel series are starting to provide an unlimited amount of possibilities to the courses the next Marvel movies can go.   I'm hoping they pull it together well like the Avengers series.  Their directions could easily become too wide and too odd.

The next Spiderman trailer is out.  I also missed a one of the releases - Shang Chi and the Lengend of the 10 rings.

@retro junkie - man... I really thought they did an amazing job with it.  I thought the animation was top notch as well.

The Thor episode... LOL.... where is mom is coming to kick some butt... we couldn't stop laughing at that.

what a crazy ending!  I cannot wait for more.   I'm so glad they made these.

yeah... they really need to make more like this.  Plus there were covid release issues... then once it was released, there were stupid theater ticket versus streaming drama.  I hope this movie continues to make more.  It's telling that it's the highest grossing moving in 2021... even with all the drama.  They were fighting many headwinds as well.

The ending is interesting... and all the multi-verse directions they are going... unlimited possibilities now.

@SpartanEvolved @mastermario  --> you guys need to jump in here .

yeah... ever since the PlayStation3, I used the PS3 and PS4 as my blu-ray player.   I still buy Blu-Ray discs here and there... but ... I've also somewhat fallen into the crowd that streams.

There have been (and are) many times where I've been glad I had the disc on hand though.

PC Gaming and Platform / Re: Starcraft 2: Nova Expansions
September 23, 2021, 12:37:22 PM
I'm not sure anyone is playing anymore.  RTS style games really dropped off.   I'm definitely down to try to play against some AI comps here soon.  We should play.  I need to find a bit of time... but we should do some vs AI matches.  I definitely need to warm up... I haven't played Starcraft 2 in a long time... really since Legacy of the Void came out and they drastically changed up gameplay.

LOL. Booo @Grindspine  That's pretty funny...

Her story of being attacked by the chickens was pretty funny as well.  Good stuff!   I miss playing this game. It's been awhile... but it was one of my favorites.  It really was overshadowed by Ocarina of Time and Majoras Mask once they came out.  The game still holds up well today.

Hey @AngelBob Glad to see you back!

Yeah... I finally upgraded to an iPhone.  I've ran BlackBerry (no joke) since 2007 I think...?  I even had a BlackBerry Motion as my last phone.   I have to say, I really liked it.  It was android... and they finally had the screen RIGHT for a touch screen BlackBerry.  It had low adoption numbers though... sucks... but it is what it is.  So... AT&T was shutting down 3G.  My BlackBerry Motion was a 4G LTE device.

AT&T screwed me over... They Shutdown my device multiples times stating there was some 3G component to it.  I'm like... it's a 4G phone.    Fought and Fought... finally bought an iPhone directly from Apple. I wasn't going to buy through AT&T after that mess.  So frustrating, it was.  The Motion still had a decent amount of life left.  I was going to try to get a gaming phone or something (why not)... but I everything was out of stock... and I went with the iPhone.   I've used one for work for the last 11 years... and they're not bad.  I do miss BlackBerry a bit... I'm sure I'm the only one these days.  ;D

General Discussion / Re: What is new with gaming?
September 22, 2021, 06:34:28 PM
You know... this is a good question, @Grindspine

I've been working on certifications over the last couple years and in a post grad program right now... I'm a bit out of the loop.  really, the PlayStation 5 and newest Xbox were supposed to be decent jumps in technology... at least storage for PS5.   However, even those systems don't see like a major jump.

The latest Nvidia cards (3080....etc) were supposed to be decent jumps.  However, the inability to acquire ANY of the above (or at least the difficulty of acquiring) very well could hamper adoption of said technologies.  Obviously, it will happen.  But we are in a weird limbo state it seems.

for example... when the i7 came out with triple channel ram... that was amazing.  When the 4870x2 came out many years back... that was amazing.   Crisis... nothing (in my opinion) really pushes the envelope like that.  I'm not sure it should.... What's next?  Super real life?  then again... I'm not sure it shouldn't either.

one thing I will say is that your average general PC performs very well these days.  I'm not talking Chrome book... but on $1000 hardware, TONS can be done.  That's a major shift from years past.  It's also cool to see games being developed for all classes of systems.   You no longer HAVE to have ugly graphics with lower to mid tier systems.  They've really optimized visuals for what I would consider "standard stock" equipment.  Sure, you don't get all the bells and whistles... but you're normally not suffering either.

No kidding... did you see the Zombie Episode?  The Ant-Man scene where he was infecting someone LOL  ;D That's too funny...

Absolutely love this series.  Great stuff

Anyone else checking it out?

Very cool!  So.... Are you going to buy this?   I think you have a ridiculous amount of time in Skyrim if I remember right.    You only had it on PC / Steam, right?

We went back and watched Black Widow again. It still held up and was really good. I don't know or understand what the complaints are against this movie.

It sucks that it hasn't performed as well in the box office. In my opinion, they did a great job.  It's definitely better than many others in the series.
#777
The theatre is definitely still good for that.  A night to get out and away from the norm if you need it or just want it.

As far as black widow, it seems that it made $353million world wide so far.

Has anyone checked out this animated series?  It's pretty good and the animation is well done.

The 1st episode is what if Captain America was captain Carter.  The 2nd so far  is what if t'challa was actually the kid that became star Lord.

If you haven't checked it out, they are worth a watch.

Thoughts, comments?  Post it up

@CreepinDeth  - Interesting... I have not heard of this one.  So this is more on the bleeding edge that has more up-to-date drivers that you need?  If I am understanding this right... it would be more on the Fedora side of the Red Hat equation?

I will check this one out.
#780
@CreepinDeth  - yes - KDE, Gnome, Mate...etc.  You're right on target.  Steam really seems to have supported Linux for a long time.  I don't know how many of the game requirements worked or went... but they were pretty early to the support scene.  At least regarding their app and platform.

We started using Mate desktop a bit more with Centos7.  I have not play tested it with 8 as much, but it offered a pretty good and clean experience.  If you have a chance, give it a try on a vm or separate machine.

@retro junkie --> I think I tinkered in 1999 and then started using Linux a little in 2000 or 2001... I believe it was.  It wasn't until recently that I really started to deep dive.  I've always been on the Windows side but have had to adapt for more microservices and devops styled automation.

@Polygon  --> I hear you.  I think I need to make a topic for the crowd on the other side  ;D  Microsoft is sure playing around.  The last few years have been a bit odd.  Especially on the privacy front.
