General Discussion / Re: Lost in Space on Netflix
April 18, 2018, 11:14:04 PM
I thought the first season of Dark Matter was the best of the show. I personally did not like the direction it took. At one point I was so hoping that Netflix would pick it up and do something with it.

But I  do like this take on Lost in Space. I have one more episode of this season which I will watch tomorrow night.

Yes and I am going to be right on top of the Spyro collection. Graphics are going to be updated.

Been into Project X Zone today on the 3DS, advancing. Also DragonBall Advance Adventure on the GB SP.

I was around when the original aired. Loved the campy goofiness of that one. But when I heard about this one I was hoping for something fresh and more serious. Not disappointed. I'm hooked too. Watching the third one right now.

I agree. Even though I will play Raiden on any system, the TG16 is the best version of that era. The best in the gameplay. Audio on the system itself was best on the Duo with CD games.

If you are asking about the music score, oriental type feel. Voice sound bites are raspy, grainy.

Spent the afternoon playing Spyro the eternal night for the GB SP. Very good game.
@retro junkie I've always wondered how that Spyro games played... I think I tried one for the PSX a long time ago... but didn't do much with it.

This particular game for the GB SP plays totally different from the others on the system. Eternal Night is a 2D side scroller. All of the others on the system are 3/4 overhead view. This game is excellent. Highly recommended if you are into side scrollers. You gain special moves when you find them in the levels. Your Spyro develops as you gain those moves.

Did it come out on any other console?

This game alone has brought me back to the Wii

I also enjoy the recent Star Trek movies, but I'm super pissed off that the new Star Trek show is only available on CBS's shitty streaming service. There's no chance in hell I'd ever pay for that.

I know what you mean. I am not going to pay either. Even though I would love to watch, I'll wait for the DVD set.

So far it has a story line that is developing. The encounters are mission based with a back to back feel. The reason for that feel is in between there is the dialogue between the characters. But I am still in what is called the Prologue stages. You start with two characters ( Jin Kazama and Asuka) then I meet Ken and Ryu. Plus I have already ran across Dante, Valkyrie, Demitri Maximoff, Jedah Dohma, ....... Using Dante at the moment. Battles, I have been using one button mash, plus a menu for items, special moves with an extra character, etc. There are moves with different button combinations. I am being shown those as this seems to be the tutorial portions of the game. Haven't tried any of those yet.

CAPCOM, SEGA, NAMCO, contributed to this game. I am now needing to pick up the second one.

I don't like strategy RPGs. But I saw this game in a local media store called Odd Ball. They sell used games, CDs, DVDs, etc. I saw it for $8. I thought I would give it a go. I was attracted to it due to the characters Tekken, Street Fighter, Megaman, etc.

I have only had it a few days and I am really getting into it. Anyone else try this game? I see that there is a 2nd one out too. I am going to need to pick that one up too.

I watched that first season when they reprised their roles, but took no interest afterward.
My first impressions? The cinematography here is lacking in comparison with the original series. It is almost reduced to home movie type cheapness. Something significant has been lost. That "X File" styling, or feel, is off, misses the mark, or seems broken.

Scully and Moulder come across as stiff flat tired cardboard cutouts of the original characters. Even the chemistry between them is missing, leaving you unsatisfied. The energy and drive of the original characters is gone and has left the building. Maybe my expectations are too high considering that they are much older now, I am thinking that they are in their fifties? I'm old too but I haven't lost my personally. Where are the sunflower seeds? Where are the walkers, the wheel chairs? They seem like they need them. What, is the smoking man a million years old now?

It is very difficult to recreate something that was original. There are too many variables. Back during the shows run all of the elements were in place which culminated into the weekly montage of the X Files. (Those credits at the end mean something. They are all of the elements that make a movie, or series, what it is.) The mixture was right and it was on fire. Everyone was into their role as they developed the character in which they were portraying while the series progressed. And maybe that was one of the keys. We enjoyed the dark grotesque science fiction sprinkled with humor with the teasing interaction between the agents.
This comeback after all these years, to me, is an abomination of the original series.

Me? Watch this? Nope, an't doin it.

Your right I stand corrected, 9 seasons and one movie. I forgot about the one movie that was good.

Sorry about that little bit of passion that leaked out.

I really don't know how to put into words what I am trying to convey. But.....

Is there that one game that resurfaces from the back of your memory? When it comes to mind it still causes you to have feelings? Or the word "awesome game" comes to mind. You went into the game and it had an unexpected impact on you. You were unprepared. You were pleasingly surprised. Pushed your mind to its limits? Wrecked you life because you became obsessed with it? You use this game to measure other games against? You find yourself looking for another game which gives you the same type of experience.

Ico for PS2 comes to my mind, as that game moved me. I found it very enjoyable and found that it became ingrained into my mind and emotions. It became the most pleasurable experience in gaming. Journey for the PS3 is another such game. Both of those games made me want more. Both games made me look at gaming from a different perspective. Especially Journey. When you are into shmups, platfomers and RPGs you really don't envision going into a game like Journey and finding an unexpected gameplay that suddenly you find that you enjoy.  Love the puzzle elements in Ico, but also loved the exploratory environment of Journey. Rarely do I run across a game that impact me the way those games did. The way those games weaved those elements into a game and pulled me into it, equal amazing.

Been my dream to own one with the games I would like to have. I had to settle for the  Neo Geo CD.

All of their internet sites closed down on Friday. Stores are the only thing left, liquidating.

Enjoying the forum? After the silence of EGA? It is great being around something that is alive. I am sorry that I cannot be more active at the moment. Work and life in general has been hogging time. I do spend spare time thinking out what to post next. I am going through some old material. Working on updating for new posts.

Went back this morning to the beginning by pulling out Streets of Rage, the first one. I was in level eight when I lost it right at those double doors.  :o  :'(

Fought my way all the way and I was unable to deliver the goods.

Retro Gaming and Hardware / Samurai-Ghost TG16

Worth Playing

Samurai-Ghost: How a pity you are, yak yak yak.
My thoughts have always been, "Is there some kind of power up system that I am missing here?" It doesn't seem like those sphere power up things do anything for me. They just don't come around often enough either. And I still feel that way. Game is still loads of fun though. There is some very good music in some levels, odd, but good. The "Laughing Place" is really weird! There is a snow level that has flying eyeballs coming from a flower. And the butterfly that turns into a lady is my favorite boss character in this game. It took me two days to defeat her according to the rising and setting of the sun, moon in the game. Love the giant worm in that one level. And those blasted monkeys and Samurai!!!!! It took me several days to reach that door!!! Some serious gaming has went into this Hucard! Be Caution! Hate the spiked balls! This game gets really weird in some places. But I love it! The final boss, just how many times can he change?!! Still not sure. I  have never had what it takes to defeat this thing. How a pity you are, yak yak yak. This is one great game!!

Too bad it received such bad reviews back in the Turbo Grafx 16 era. I purchased it anyway and I have always been glad that I did. At first I was almost not receptive to the animation of the character, very stiff. The only seemingly joints he has is shoulders and hip. And I almost did not venture into playing the game, but was going to toss it aside. That would have been a huge mistake. It has been one of those favorite games on the system for me. Lot of parallax scrolling with some platforming. A forward scrolling hack and slash classic for the TG 16.

I ordered a CD add on from a place in the back of a game magazine for $150.00. Total cost. There was no internet at that point in time. The place was either confused or offered it as a substitute. For the first few minutes after I opened it up, I couldn't breathe. It was a brand new Turbo Duo. They were just released that year. The rest is history.  8)

Wow! I never could score a CD add on. I did end up with the Turbo Duo.

The After Burner game is very good. It is not the like the Sega 32X version, but the game is intact.

As I took the Turbo Grafx 16 off the shelf at a Toys-R-Us many many years ago, I never imagined that I held in my hands what would become my favorite gaming system of all time. As a game console, it quickly made its way to the top of the heap in my game time.

The console is about the size of an NES cart, so tiny and powerful for its time.

It continues to hold that place even today in the presence of excessively more powerful systems. I find that there is some type of magic in its gaming library encased in those little flat credit card size carts called HuCARDs, or dubbed in the US as Turbochips. Anyone presently getting into the console, it is essential that they first acquire a PC Engine, preferably the Core version of the console. This is the Japanese version and you will find the games much cheaper than the Turbo Grafx 16 counterpart.

The Japanese PC Engine huCARDs are more colorful with pictures, where as,  the Turbo Grafx 16 mostly has nothing more than lettering, or the title of the game.

Collectors have driven the prices into the excessive insane range. If you later desire to expand that gaming into the CD games then a Duo-R would be the best choice. I am so happy to have started playing in its infancy because there would be so many games I would not been able to afford. The gaming library is overflowing with arcade shooters but not entirely dominated by them. It has a great selection of action adventure platforming, and as in the shooters, many unique to the system.

The console has its own feel, sort of, a Japanese flavor to its games. To some it may be an acquired taste. I like it and find that aspect is in no way different than other systems having their own uniqueness. It is basically an 8bit gaming machine on steroids.  Or an 8bit 16bit hybrid. Some games shows the power of the architecture  while there are those that feel very 8bit. It is an 8bit machine with a 16bit graphics chip that creates an environment  for arcade shooters apparently. That is where it excelled during its heyday of popularity which quickly fizzled when the 16bit era emerged. It just could not compete against the SNES and the Genesis once that generation got to rolling. Even though it was the first console to launch CD gaming, and did it right, that was still not enough. It had a longer, more successful, run in Japan where in the US it was late to the party. 8bit was at an end, 16bit was the excitement. It was at that moment that the Turbo Grafx 16 hit the US market. And so it was just pushed from the limited shelf space as the 16bit machines took over.

People often talk of nostalgia concerning retro gaming systems. I personally really don't know what they are talking about. I focus on what is fun and satisfying when it comes to gaming. With the PC Engine it is wonderful fun and escapism at the end of a hard day, or week, just to blow up a few of those pesky aliens from another galaxy who think they can blow up ours. Honestly, why do they always seek out our solar system to blow up when they have the whole galaxy before them? Who do they think they are?

I am speechless over that ebay posting. That really blows my mind.  :o

I find some of the good UFO stories interesting. Sometimes many of these things get freaky.

I liked the original X-Files. It is one of those series I watch from beginning to end occasionally.
