General Discussion / Re: 40 years of Super Mario Bros
October 18, 2025, 09:47:47 AM
I remember playing Mario Bros 2 .... and there was this one scene where the waterfall takes up the entire screen.  I was sick LOL... and ended up throwing up.  Not sure if it was the motion on the screen... which I normally do not get motion sick.

That was a lasting memory

What in the world @retro junkie ... I don't remember this one at all. That's awesome.  :great:

Tell me you have one lol

General Discussion / Happy Birthday Bomberman!
October 18, 2025, 07:03:59 AM
Bomberman is One of the most fun games!  Especially Super Nintendo Super Bomberman!

Happy birthday @Bomberman !   We hope it is a fun and awesome birthday!  Enjoy your digital cake.

And as always, if you get the gift of gaming, post up your spoils!

They must've changed it ... I don't see anything else that would potentially enable that again.

I'm wondering if part of that was GDPR based... however, if you wanted to enable alerts to get all alerts for any new message, you should be able to do that.

I guess you could just subscribe to all the boards and you're good to go lol  :great:

Every new message is posted to discord as well in the CDG posting channel. There is that as well.

Hopefully that's workable. Thank you for verifying and following up. I want to make this as fast and user friendly as possible.

General Discussion / Re: CDG Weekly Meet Up - Thoughts?
October 17, 2025, 03:58:21 PM
That's a good question. I meant for this to be a time to get on board and post up.  However, I don't see why it couldn't be both

Ie we technically did both on the old boards. I'd be up with filling both!  Thoughts?

Not sure how many will remember, but I had flashchat on the old board.  We would post up and be in flashchat.  That was a decent system... and flash isn't really a thing anymore. Looking it up, it looks like it died hard in 2020... which, I thought it was well before that.

If we could get people active in both... that would be awesome.

It would also be cool if people could invite others to join up.

lol @CreepinDeth and @retro junkie  that's hilarious.  ;D  Yes - That's the game's name.  I'm have not dug into the title and looked into why yet... but for better or for worse, it's Rick Henderson.

I agree it's super interesting and looks cool.

Also - it IS a physical release.

I don't remember that one at all... lol

I really dug the Gears of War 3 and Halo Reach Branded Xbox's.  The Halo branded Xbox Series X was pretty cool as well
#9
@retro junkie  -- What was your favorite Xbox 360 Console design?  IE stock system, halo designed...etc.
#10
What is your favorite Xbox Console and console design?   For example, it could be the Xbox 360 Halo 3 edition... or the Halo Reach Xbox 360, or any of the other released Xbox Consoles.  There have been many console editions released over the years (though it seems all companies are not releasing the custom designed consoles).

There was this Xbox One Crazy Tomb Raider one of a kind console I posted awhile ago that was really cool:
https://www.chickendinnergaming.com/forum/microsoft-xbox-series-x-xbox-one-and-xbox-360/rare-one-of-a-kind-xbox-one-for-auction-charity/

What is your favorite and why? Thoughts...  Comments?  Post it up!

@mastermario @targetrasp @retro junkie @Grindspine @Mai Valentine @Jack @Kinikko @CreepinDeth

@Boomsickle  --> Many improvements have been made to the forum, you shouldn't have the issues you had when I was 1st getting everything set up.

Arcade / Re: What was your 1st Arcade Experience?
October 14, 2025, 08:53:00 PM
@retro junkie --> I have some of those same experiences for sure.  I remember Pinball Machines lined up as well. I have had a lot of fun with Pinball over my lifetime.  I've had a couple real deal pinball machines as well.  They are not always the most fun to keep operational, but are very cool (another story, another time).  Now, the driving game... I swear I remember something like this at a bowling alley... but could be wrong.

@targetrasp Dude... I remember Chucky Cheese as well. That one game, packrat... I really enjoyed that as a kid. I'd love to see that Pinball that dispensed baseball cards!  That would have been a trip... I never saw that.

In the 80's... there were so many arcades tucked away in hotels, in every nook and cranny at restaurants... it was a wonderful time.  I remember Ms Pac-man sit down arcade machines at Chi-Chi's.  I would play those as a kid while we waited to get seated.  At one of the Holiday Inn's that we use to stay at, they had Golden Axe and RC Pro Am... plus many other games.

The Mario + Rabbids Dual Pack is an Amazon Exclusive for the Nintendo Switch that contains both released Mario + Rabbids games.  I thought we had topics on both of those games on the forum, but we do not!

The games included are Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle and Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope.  These are pretty fun games in an XCOM style... which is a turn based tactical style game.  I am a sucker for these type of games.

This pack is a great deal.  However, my only annoyance (and it's a big one for me) is that the games are a Code in the box.  :o  Other than that, this is a great collection.  Right now, it is $29... it was on sale just recently for about $25.  See the discount post in the deals section:

This is a great collection and is a great package of games for a great price.  I wish it was a physical release, but if you don't care, pick this up.  You might be able to find more deals coming up for the holidays.

If you have these games, post up what you like about them.  Thoughts, comments... post it up!

Rick Henderson... yes, another Shmup!   :happydance:  Am I on a Shmup kick?  perhaps!  :great:

This is a 16-bit styled shooter ... in your typical Shmup format.  You can get it for the Nintendo Switch or Playstation 5 in standard edition or Nintendo Switch in the Extra edition.  This game apparently was released in the digital platforms on the Nintendo store (and potentially others).  This is a physical edition and will be released November 7, 2025.

Below is a screenshot of the contents of the Nintendo Switch Special edition.  There's even a floppy with a USB key in the floppy lol.

I'm a bit excited for another Shmup... I like Shmups, shmups are my favorite. I am going to wait though to see if I can get it at a bit of a discount.  The Extra Edition looks really cool... though I probably won't bite at that version.

Thoughts, comments, post it up!

yeah... I'm with you there.  However, I don't think this one will be available for a lower price.  I could be wrong... and maybe used in the near future it will be more available.  Hopefully that is the case.  I am a bit tempted to get it though as I think it'll keep its value well.

Quote from: Kinikko on October 08, 2025, 03:42:21 PMKinda why I'm in the boat where I don't particularly care if I join in on the next gen of gaming.  I have so much (sooooo much omg) to play as it is I don't really need new things.

I'm in the same boat... as well as a lot of the members here LOL.  So many...  ??? I probably have 10 sealed switch games alone.  That's not mentioning all of my Steam catalog... or all other systems as well.

@retro junkie - I heavily watch diet these days as well.  We eat pretty clean and avoid corn, wheat, and many different oils ... plus eat a fairly low sugar diet.  This is definitely a more expensive way to eat... I feel tons better though.  The only issue is... if I ever get into something that's "not good," man does it hurt.

The prices of all these items are up.  Cars and houses = way up.  Games = up. Food = Up.  Gas... Is about the same... which is a bit interesting... but it's still up here.  Restaurants = up a good portion.  Education = up.  I couldn't believe how expensive shipping is.  We had to ship out a laptop for repair... cheapest option was $55-60

Waved to ya lol!    Yeah... as I mentioned there... with he error you were getting, I'm surprised that worked.

Welcome to the Discord lol

@retro junkie - It very well could be... I checked that video out but didn't see the ship "jump."  I thought I specifically remembered that on the spider web.  It could have been gameplay, but a memory was triggered.

Hopefully not a false memory as I cannot seem to find it.  ???

Overall... this game looked pretty cool, too bad it wasn't officially released.  The rails on some of the levels looked extremely tight though... IE you they could move, but it looked like the game REALLY wanted to force the ship back to center.

Arcade / Re: Is Golden Tee still a thing?
October 13, 2025, 09:50:20 AM
@targetrasp LOL  ;D  That's hilarious... remembering time frames from beer prices.  I can't imagine how much a tall is these days at Buffalo Wild Wings.  I think the last time we actually ate at a Bdubs was a decent bit before Covid.

$500 is pretty low for a full arcade game these days.  Does that include the gooey beer and wing taste left on the trackball?  ;D  IT's interesting Golden Tee is still going strong.  I never really got into it that much, but others seemed to be regulars.

@CreepinDeth I think I want to add this to my collection at some point.  I tell you, I had the same thought.  In the Super Mario 3D All-Stars topic... I covered some of that.  It sucks they didn't have it on that collection.  Once they didn't include it, and it wasn't discovered as a secret on the cart, it was most certainly going to be released later on for more money.   Crazy part is... they put it with Galaxy 1.  It makes sense... and it's now accessible again as the Super Mario 3D All-Stars is very expensive now.

I sort of wonder if this is going to massively jump in price in the future as well.  Time will tell.

Quote from: Kinikko on October 09, 2025, 05:25:36 PMOh that's also a reason why I'm not interested at all.  I am blind in one eye so I can't even see 3D effects when it relies on stereoscopic vision.
Well... that would do it!  I wonder if it's possible.  I will need to try that with my virtual boy at some point to see if closing 1 eye would still be playable.  I'm sure I did that as a kid forever ago, just don't remember.

Quote from: retro junkie on October 10, 2025, 09:56:29 PMIf you didn't get the headache the first time around, you can with the second??  :happydance:
LOL... there is some truth to that.  Somewhere, I documented my experience where the constant red for 20-30 minutes (when I was younger) had me seeing a lot of green at night when I stopped looking at the virtual boy.  It was bizarre.

Quote from: CreepinDeth on October 12, 2025, 10:25:51 PMTaking a look again, they do have different lenses in those pictures. Doesn't make any sense to me though. The games have to be displayed a certain way so having both behave slightly different just seems wrong.

100% on with you there.  It is bizarre.  I'm hoping it pans out well... I'm still excited!  I also agree with you on cost.

Quote from: CreepinDeth on October 09, 2025, 02:40:16 AMAs far as I'm aware, they both do the same thing. Neither product contains any electronics and both depend on the lenses that are attached to simulate the 3D effect. Both require the Switch screen to produce the image. It would be weird to manufacture two different types of lenses. Although I will agree that the full plastic kit will be a better experience because of the visor to block out light.

Sure thing... and great points.  It will block out the light, be of the same ergonomic form... etc.   However, looking at the images, unless there's something going on with their marketing, the lenses seem to be different.  If not, then... I might disappointed.  BV's hopes crushed lol  :'(

Quote from: Kinikko on October 07, 2025, 03:13:00 PMI respect anyone that actually wants this and thinks it's cool, but as soon as I saw the announcement the first thing that I thought to myself was "why?  who asked for this?"  :P
LOL I'm not sure if I should be offended... or proud.  ;D   I'm torn... but I am still excited for the Virtual Boy accessory.

@CreepinDeth --> I think that's a big leap.  Massive leap.   My guess is that the cardboard replicates an effect.  It's going to be highly simulated and workable... whereas the full accessory is going to work and view like the original Virtual Boy.   I think the experience is going to be way better with the full unit... and it better be for $100

I won't exactly diss Nintendo as they have been pretty creative in the past, but the cardboard is probably going to be a subpar experience for $20... outside the cardboard aesthetic lol

@retro junkie bumping this up ^^  Please see my question above... I'm curious if that's the game I'm thinking of.  Maybe I saw a video of it a long time ago... but I could almost swear that I played this (could almost... questioning myself because it doesn't seem feasible now).

Terminal Velocity: Boosted Edition
Earthion

This also came with Terminal Velocity original edition as well!  I haven't tried Terminal Velocity on the Steam Deck yet, but getting ready to do that

lol... dangit @Kinikko you might have sold me on this game as I was on the fence.  It's been awhile since I played a mech style game.  I've played several in the past... and even the way past in the 90s.  It might be time again  ???
