Wut wuut... I was pretty surprised that this was announced!  Animal Crossing: New Horizons – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition and Free Update.  The Switch 2 version shows graphical updates, Switch 2 mouse features, additional online people and new items.  The free update to Version 3.0 is pretty cool and there are a bunch of changes!  There's also a new resort being added.

Both are coming out January 15th, 2026.  This was announced today:

LOL @Kinikko this is temporarily on hold.  I'm going to work with @mastermario to check out the current page and see where we need to take it (design, naming, etc).   

From there... Would you be able to help out with the Facebook page? 

Ideas:
I have to see what we can do... but events, people, and help out spread the word?  Maybe we can get @Jack to help as well.   The idea would be consistency.   Events like the CDG Meet-ups onsite and Discord, ensure event / Discord links are posted. Ensure the Steam Group is linked properly (I believe you are on the Steam Group)...etc.  Also... making sure if additional activity occurs, it is appropriately moderated

@SpartanEvolved @mastermario @Grindspine and I are getting together on Discord and playing some games... maybe Left 4 Dead 2, Maybe Starcraft 2... it'll be something lol.  I ended up streaming our game play for a short time last Thursday.  This will probably happen sometime 7-8pm EST.

I think I remember Jewel Master - Cradle of Athena... I think.  I took a look in my collection but do not see it right now.  I swear I had that game.

Speaking of your working that sphere to the edge of the board... that makes me think of Tetrisphere (though I get it's not the same).  There's 1 game that I wish they would release to the Virtual console on switch --> Tetrisphere

OK... I thought I already posted this, but that's not the case.   This is the 1st game that caused a major "what the heck is going on" moment.  Gears of War: Reloaded has been released for a non-Xbox system.  Gears of War is now on the PlayStation 5.   Mind is blown. 

This is a weird time in gaming for me.  On 1 hand, this is an awesome event.  On the other hand, you know there's something just not right about Gears of War being on something else other than an Xbox.

@Kinikko  --> I agree 100%.  It seems that everything is somewhat "baked in" now and everything seems 100% decided and status quo unlike any other time in gaming history.  Maybe I'm wrong on that.... It just seems like in many innovations, the last 15 years have been more and more baked in... or predictable small iterations.  Maybe that's just the current market ... everyone gets predictable... it's the new monopoly.  Large Corporations have taken over, need consistent returns for the stock market.  Rinse and repeat.

I personally played a decent amount of Xbox 360 and had both the Halo 3 and Halo Reach consoles.  I DID NOT like the system when the Halo 3 console was released... just hated the interface. However, it felt so much better by Halo Reach time.

I wonder where my vita is.  It's been a couple moves since I've played it last.  It really was my favorite handheld, I'm sad to have seen it fail like it did. 

@Kinikko - Did you start looking for it? lol.  It is a great handheld for sure.  I started picking it back up over the last couple months to continue to get a few more achievements.  Some of those are in the happenings thread:

That's how I noticed the blue light on the Vita after activating cloud saves.

The Terminal List: Dark Wolf is on Amazon Prime and it has been pretty good.  We watched the original Terminal List and liked it.  Both series are pretty dark... so if you're in the mood for a comedy, this isn't your show lol 

Without spoilers - It's about special forces guys caught in the middle of duty, orders and protecting each other.  After they are discharged, they go into covert ops and aren't really sure who they are working for during their missions... which leads to twists and turns in the story.

Has anyone watched Terminal List: Dark Wolf?  Overall, it's pretty good!

We actually played some Left 4 Dead 2 the other day.

Something really crazy has been happening. In fact, even @MegaDrive20XX mentioned hell froze over when telling me of this story.

Halo: Campaign Evolved launches on PS5 in 2026. There are new campaigns, new graphical engines and more.  There's a lot to be excited about in this release!

So... I have to agree. Hell has frozen over.  The apocalypse is ready to begin.  Who ever would've thought Halo would've been launched on another console.  Let alone, active proper cross play is also a thing!  I never thought I'd see this day in gaming history.

This also begs the question... will the Zbox hardware continue?  It sounded like they were going to release more hardware at some point... but... these events keep happening.

My first time playing Super Mario Bros was on the SNES. It was the "Super Mario All-Stars." It would be a ton of years later with the Advent of the abundant availability of clone consoles before I actually acquired the original games. At that point I started getting into 8bit gaming.

You get to play Super Mario Bros back in the arcade at all?

I got super Mario Bros with the NES in 1986 or 87, for a birthday or Christmas. I was 5 or 6 years old. I've played every main line SMB game as they've come out and a ton of the offshoots; always favorites at time of release. Top 10 franchise in my opinion. Very likely my gateway drug into video games, and why I'm still a junkie.

Man... this sounds about right LOL.  I think Nintendo knew what kind of gateway drug they were peddling as well.  These kids... are going to be hooked!!

Really... Steam OS just uses the KDE Plasma desktop on top of Linux. KDE Plasma is decent.  I think it is fairly slick looking though.

The Deck 2 seems to be fairly far out at this time.  And you're right about the compromise... There seems to be a lot of that these days.

I've been hearing and reading that some people prefer Linux over Windows for gaming... and others prefer Windows over Linux. 

More and more, Linux and even Mac has become more and more suitable for gaming.  This is great for more choices to game with... and choices / competition are always great to have when it comes to products.

so what are your thoughts?  Why do you like Linux or Windows over one another?  If you like them both equally, why?

Enhancements:

I remember playing Mario Bros 2 .... and there was this one scene where the waterfall takes up the entire screen.  I was sick LOL... and ended up throwing up.  Not sure if it was the motion on the screen... which I normally do not get motion sick.

They must've changed it ... I don't see anything else that would potentially enable that again. 

I'm wondering if part of that was GDPR based... however, if you wanted to enable alerts to get all alerts for any new message, you should be able to do that.

I guess you could just subscribe to all the boards and you're good to go lol     

Every new message is posted to discord as well in the CDG posting channel. There is that as well.
