PC Rigs, Builds, and Peripheral Devices / Re: The Linux Topic

I don't really use the CLI unless I absolutely have to. I have no qualms with CLI. I just prefer installing stuff from the app store (preferably FlatPacks.) I think if Linux is going to be a true alternative to Windows, then it needs to be able to handle apps and general functionality with the desktop environment. That's just my personal opinion.

As for GNOME, I don't like that the app launcher has this icon on the top left of the screen to bring up the apps. It's clear that they want you to use the Super Key on your keyboard. I also don't like that it's not a traditional desktop. Feels more like a plain Window Manager instead. It's too simple of a desktop for me I guess. It also seems like they're trying to have a MacOS aesthetic. Which is cool I guess but since the functionality differs quite a bit, feels off.

I also already like KDE. It's the default DE for Steam Deck and I liked it out of the box. KDE seems to be making their own distro which I'm kind of interested in. I'll give Fedora with KDE a proper try and I'll let you know what I think.

Arcade / Re: Do you still Arcade?

@BLUEVOODU tempest 2000 is best played on the Atari Jaguar. Love playing it on that console. It never felt quite right on any of the other consoles that it was ported to. Don't know if it was ever an arcade game.

Quote from: targetrasp on July 20, 2025, 10:03:52 AMI wish. My one slotter got gone years ago. I miss it but it didn't get used much what seems like a week after I got it. I likely only miss it because it and all the MVS carts I had are worth 10x what I paid for it / sold it for.
LOL... so you only like it now for the potential value it could've been now?

I just haven't played mine for years.  I am potentially looking to sell it. However, that's also hard due to nostalgic value.  Would I miss it?  Maybe... it just takes up room right now.

At this one laser tag place, they have a cool Minecraft Dungeons Arcade machine.  It's pretty cool... obviously if you like Minecraft Dungeons.  That's the Diablo 2 style Minecraft game.  They did a good job with it.

Quote from: mastermario on July 17, 2025, 08:49:20 PMI love barcades. Always a great time! Indy has a couple of good ones and there are a few here in DFW as well as the Cidercade in Houston which is the best (they specialize in cider beers).

Nice!  Fort Wayne has Crazy Pins and a few, Ultrazone, Putt Putt (not sure how good it is anymore) and a few others. There's definitely room for a barcade.

Quote from: retro junkie on July 18, 2025, 10:47:10 AMThere are no arcades where I live. If there was I would visit them occasionally, especially if they had some old friends, like centipede, tempest, etc. And those old shoot'em ups.......Defender................yeah.......nice.................
What about Tempest 2000??

Quote from: targetrasp on July 26, 2025, 03:15:06 PMWe've got a barcade and pinball museum in Asheville that's fairly decent but I usually steer clear of downtown so I'm not there much.

When I go visit my brother in Myrtle Beach I usually take the kids to a few of the arcades scattered out there. The four player beat-em-ups, the racing ones, and the light gun games were always favorites.

I can only imagine why you don't want to go down town, @targetrasp lol.  Whatever could it be?
Just think, we could've be beachin it up right now.  Arcadin on the beach?

@CreepinDeth - if you try KDE, let me know your thoughts.   I was fine with Gnome and what not.  KDE is fine, just not a favorite.  It looks alright though.  Mate is an older desktop that has a decent amount of capability.  Many others like Gnome and KDE better though.

For Gnome, what got in the way?  There really are nuances that take a bit to get used to with all of them.

Did you use the CLI at all?

I've seen several others, but they seem to get a large amount of backlash if they do state it.

In this case, I'm not sure... other than, it's extremely odd for a company to increase the cost of the outgoing product.   Again, it could be something I've not seen before AND happened... I just don't remember it happening.   If this is the case, it very well could be due to Tariffs and that's it.

I will have to look at it, but it seems that Xbox might have blamed price increases on tariffs... but I believe that's for games.

General Discussion / Fantastic Four: First Steps
Last post by BLUEVOODU - August 18, 2025, 01:34:54 PM
I missed this topic 2-3 couple weeks back.  We ended up watching Fantastic Four: first Steps, Marvel's newest edition to the line-up.  There was 2 after credit scenes as well that were worth watching.  Personally, we all loved the movie and thought it was great.   We didn't watch many of the reviews ahead of time as we wanted to stay as neutral as possible.

Who has seen this movie? What are your thoughts?  Are you excited to see this movie if you haven't already?

Post it up!

I hear you.. nothing does last forever.  It's a good case for archiving and backing up.  Most companies and others don't care about this... in-so-much that they could profit from it.  Otherwise, they got their monies... so ... why would they care outside those that still have true care in them about consumers?
