Having Metal Slug on the Sega Genesis would be awesome. This is really a sort-of tech demo. I don't think that this project has advanced any further than a survival mode in gameplay. You can go to the site and download the demo for a "what-ever-you want-to-pay" type fee. My copy has only two stages. The updated version has three.

Gameplay is a run and gun from right to left over several screens. At the end on either side is a hostage, when released, gives you a weapon. You are prompted by an arrow on which direction to run. When you reach a certain rank you can advance to the next stage. You have a life bar that is reduced as you are hit, once down, game over.

The graphics are spot on Metal Slug. And the animation is superb and smooth for a genesis game. Looks just like the real thing, a Neo Geo thing that is.
My hard copy came from AliExpress, of course it did. When you turn on the game it has flashing "Not for Sale" in the title screen. I originally purchased this out of curiosity. Then I discovered the project. And I don't think it will be much more than what it is now. The game is a challenge, but has no real replay value other than just blasting the enemy as a few minute time waster. You can download it from the net and put it on an everdrive for your Genesis.

I have seen one other project where they are attempting to create a full new Metal Slug game for the Genesis console. It can be downloaded in the same way, for a fee. But that one is so brutally hard, unbalanced, and needs a lot of work before it becomes enjoyable.
