Well I decided today was the day. I have been meaning to convert my main N64 into being region Free. I have had the plastic piece to do the trick since last year sometime.

On with the new region Free.......

The nubs above those holes matched the game cart that they wanted you to use with this console.

Works great!!

I wasn't thinking when I ordered the part. I should have ordered the milky clear-ish part, but, it really looks okay. A non issue with me now that it is done. The new part does not have any nubs to restrict what carts you can use with the console. It gives me the freedom to use only one console and not have to switch back and forth.

Great post @retro junkie!  This might be one of the easiest mods I've seen for making something region free  :great:  ... outside of something already being region free.

It has been about 20 years since I've messed with any of this.  I have a converter cart of some sort that I used to play the Japanese version Bangai-O for the Nintendo 64.  By the way... Bangai-O is an amazing game... might need a topic on this.

At the end of the day... it's just the "nubs" that keep the region from working right?  I couldn't remember.  The silly things companies did.  I never totally understood why they locked regions - outside some of the technical issues that could happen between some of the regions.  But US / Japan, AT THE LEAST, doesn't make sense.
