Jim Power: The Lost Dimension in 3-D is a platform game that was released for the SNES. A Sega Genesis version was created, but its release was cancelled despite being completed. In 2021, Piko Interactive recovered this version and crowdfunded a release. I did not find out about this in time so I went after and purchased this bootleg version from AliExpress. I really didn't remember this being on the Genesis console, so I started investigating at the time this took place. Evidently someone dumped this game on the net. I try to stay informed about these things but somehow missed this during the hype.

I still have my SNES game with the glasses. A clever use of in-game colors, parallax scrolling, combined with the glasses creates a sort-of 3-D....ish effect. It works, but I, personally, never tried to use it for a long play of the game. Headache inducing with the colors, motion, and the glasses. Plus I wear glasses and the combination of the two just doesn't work out anyway. The game must stand on its own without the added peripheral. Because, let's face it, who besides me is going to still have those glasses.

The graphics are weird and adding the wild odd use of colors for the 3D effect reminds me of the blacklight posters of the early 70s. The gameplay is a run and gun platform. To me, the game has its own unique feel. And the one hit death demands perfection in playing this game. I don't necessarily like games that have that feature. Give me a life bar! Please! I do enjoy the game, it is just that feature which holds me back a bit. I got all the way to the end of a stage, got hit, it was my last life, it asked me," want to continue," put me back to the beginning of the stage. Aaagh!! This game takes a lot of practice and memorization to excel and make your way through. There are no easy, normal, or hard choices.

I wished they had released this when the Sega Genesis was a hot item. I would have purchased an official release, out of the bargain bin. I do like the game, but I think it is because of the weirdness and shooting element. The background music is nothing to write home about. As a whole, there is really nothing else that compares. This game is so.............unique.
