I was curious what Anthropic Claude Sonnet 4 had to say in regards to Super Mario Sunshine for the Gamecube... and here is the review:

QuoteSuper Mario Sunshine stands as one of the most divisive entries in the Mario catalog, and for good reason. Set on the tropical Isle Delfino, Mario's beach vacation quickly turns into a cleaning mission as he's framed for vandalizing the island with graffiti. Armed with F.L.U.D.D., a water-spraying backpack device, players must restore the island's shine sprites and clear Mario's name.

The game's tropical aesthetic is undeniably gorgeous, with vibrant colors and creative level designs that make Isle Delfino feel like a genuine vacation destination. F.L.U.D.D. introduces genuinely fun mechanics—hovering, rocket-boosting, and pressure-washing enemies creates a fresh Mario experience that feels distinct from its predecessors.

However, Sunshine's ambition often exceeds its execution. The notorious blue coin collection becomes tedious, voice acting feels stilted, and the camera system fights you at crucial moments. Most frustratingly, the F.L.U.D.D.-less platforming sections expose imprecise controls that make challenging sequences feel unfair rather than rewarding.

It also gave the game 3 out of 5 stars!  What are your thoughts?  Do you feel the review is accurate? Do you think it's flawed?  Do you agree?

This game never felt like a "Mario" game if you know what I mean. The idea of Mario is connected to platform gaming. It would have been better if some other character, maybe, was used and Mario left out of it, maybe shy guy or a mushroom guy. Not sure if it would have fared any better or not. Without Mario it would probably have been lost in the pool of mediocre games in the Gamecube library and forgotten. But I sort-of enjoyed it at the time, still have it in my cube collection.

I guess I consider this Mario's black-eye.  :))
