This is pretty cool!  I wondered if this was going to happen.

The Virtual Boy is being added to Nintendo Online for Nintendo Switch and Switch 2!  This is coming February 17, 2026.

This will be cool and will be an accessible way to enjoy Virtual Boy ... although, if you haven't tried the Virtual Boy on an actual system, you are missing a bit lol.  It was a unique experience.

However, you CAN add a Virtual Buy Accessory for $100 - yes...  a Virtual Boy Accessory which is a replica of the old Hardware!

Or you can do cardboard mode which is literal cardboard accessory that fits over your console and you view through it to your screen:

Personally, I'd want to skip cardboard mode and do the full accessory. Maybe the cardboard accessory would work well... I just don't see it translating well...?

What would be cool is if they added new games!  I'm not holding my breath for that... but how cool would that be?

I'm pumped for this.  What about you?  Thought, comments... post it up!

$100 and you don't even get the controller? How can Nintendo make bluetooth replicas of previous gen consoles but not for the Virtual Boy?

It's super neat, and I do agree it's cool, but I'm going to have to pass unless I can get one for a cheaper price. I'm also not paying $20 for cardboard.

I've really dialed back the spending on game nostalgia, but this is a must have for me. It'll likely get encased in acrylic and never be used but it'll look pretty on a shelf.

Come on @CreepinDeth, you need to buy the $20 cardboard LOL.  ;D  For me in my current household state, I'm 100% ok not having another controller.  Just adapt the Wii controller or pro controller to this process and done.  I'd be happy with that.

$100 is salty... for sure... but I'm going to get this.  For me, this is a shut up, Nintendo and take my money.

I'm sure it's a long shot and doubt it will happen.   However, I'm really hoping they make new games for the Virtual Boy.  Nintendo COULD do this... how awesome would it be if they brought out new games for it?

I respect anyone that actually wants this and thinks it's cool, but as soon as I saw the announcement the first thing that I thought to myself was "why?  who asked for this?"  :P

Sure, that's fine and reasonable. However, my main point is that for $100, I'm expecting the controller as well. Otherwise, I think it's too expensive for what it is. Especially if a piece of cardboard can create the same effect.

The good news for you all, I'm one less person you don't have to fight for online.  :)

LOL I'm not sure if I should be offended... or proud.  ;D   I'm torn... but I am still excited for the Virtual Boy accessory.

@CreepinDeth --> I think that's a big leap.  Massive leap.   My guess is that the cardboard replicates an effect.  It's going to be highly simulated and workable... whereas the full accessory is going to work and view like the original Virtual Boy.   I think the experience is going to be way better with the full unit... and it better be for $100

I won't exactly diss Nintendo as they have been pretty creative in the past, but the cardboard is probably going to be a subpar experience for $20... outside the cardboard aesthetic lol

As far as I'm aware, they both do the same thing. Neither product contains any electronics and both depend on the lenses that are attached to simulate the 3D effect. Both require the Switch screen to produce the image. It would be weird to manufacture two different types of lenses. Although I will agree that the full plastic kit will be a better experience because of the visor to block out light.

Sure thing... and great points.  It will block out the light, be of the same ergonomic form... etc.   However, looking at the images, unless there's something going on with their marketing, the lenses seem to be different.  If not, then... I might disappointed.  BV's hopes crushed lol  :'(

Oh that's also a reason why I'm not interested at all.  I am blind in one eye so I can't even see 3D effects when it relies on stereoscopic vision.
