Age Verification??????

I have not seen any discussion on this subject matter around here. Maybe everyone is just waiting to see if?? Maybe it is too early to care at this point? I don't know, but I have been concerned since I started seeing this raising its ugly head around the net. This is something that will affect everything we use that has any connection to the internet. On Linux forums that I am a part of they will not even discuss, people get banned.

How will this impact your gaming? Your computer use? Your phone?

My concern is putting my data out there in places that I have tried to protect, and keep it from that type of exposure. I do not trust any place out there with that type of private information. Since I retired I have used my computer to do a lot of online transactions, like banking, purchases, etc. It is very convenient to do a lot of stuff like that at home when you get up in age.

My impression is that they are creating a data base of our profile.

This will determine when I will have to purchase a new phone, computer, etc. When your operating system becomes outdated you will not be able to access the internet to verify your age. Unless you are using Linux. Right now there is a struggle in the Linux community over this whole issue.

I know that individual States are pushing legislation on this whole issue. Laws that are being written by unqualified people that have no clue as to what the consequences will be. And there are those who are pushing the same type of legislation in the federal government.

It is only a matter of time before this rolls out and creates total chaos................ I am so glad that I will never have to get a facial scan to play on my SNES, N64, Genesis, Gameboy, etc....retro has its advantages..............

@retro junkie   - on the Linux forums, what exactly won't they discuss?  Is it something they're looking to implement and that's why they are not discussing?

This topic is long outside of the "they're creating a profile of you."  This has been happening increasingly more since 2006 (honestly, well before then... but I think that was the point of no return for the current trend and data mining)... I could be wrong. For facial recognition... probably 2012-2015 was the point of no return. I'm sure they've been gathering and training data from all the social media sites.  I wouldn't doubt that was happening somewhat back in the bbs to aol days as well.

The interesting part I've witnessed lately - if you want to have a YouTube creator account, you have to upload your ID. This is pretty crazy in my opinion.

Ever check out Flock cameras?  That's a Google search that may take you down another rabbit hole.   

As far as scanning face to play, I would probably be done with gaming at that point.

On the Linux forums users are asking questions concerning how Linux would implement the age verification. The Age Verification requirements are connected to the user's account with the OS provider, like Microsoft does. Linux has no accounts of any individual that uses the OS. They have no idea how many people are actually using their Linux distribution. Some Linux distros have banned the use of their Linux flavor from the states that are requiring the AV just to escape the responsibility of the heavy fines that would be laid on them. Some are asking if their distribution will actually abide by the laws. They are legitimate questions with some deep concern. The AV would require your ID and facial scan entered into your computer and whatever sites that is used by the OS provider. Linux has always been about freedom and security. The forums are not wanting to address any of the concerns which is not good.
There are some of the more widely used Linux distros that are making preparations to confirm to the laws.

Placing my info on a particular site that I am dealing with is totally different than the things that are connected to the Age Verification pit.

AI will need to be added to any OS that you are using, be it phone, computer, game console, etc. The whole plan is to put AI in charge. I am not comfortable with that.

I have been following this train for a while, like you said. I just feel the noose is getting tighter. The "profile" concern is just how will these sites, or database, handle my info. What risks are we facing. I use Aura presently to keep track of my info.

What I understand so far..........

Let's say I wanted to logon to the "Chicken Dinner Gaming Community." My computer's OS with the AI would detect a "Chat, social media, forum" site platform. There would be the requirement for me to do a facial scan. The AI would contact the OS profile somewhere out there. The AI would then determine if it was me according to the ID that they had on file comparing the picture in the ID with my facial scan. If there is a match, I would then be allowed to logon. Right now my ID has me without a beard. I presently have a beard. Not sure if the AI could get a match. This would be the same for Facebook, etc.
