A day late, however, Happy 4th of July to everyone.  I hope it was an awesome day.

Did you get any gaming in or celebrate in other ways?

A group of friends were off on Friday so we got together Thursday night and played Abyssus and Tape to Tape. A few days later I got to play Brotato with BV, Bomberman and my son. Nice little holiday overall.

Abyssus is a co-op roguelike FPS, that structures its runs kinda like Hades. In theory it seemed awesome but the game was really stingy with rewards. Because of such we didn't get very far compared to the amount of time we've spent playing. It really made the levels and enemies too similar. You've gotta unlock guns as well, and you really only start with one. The two guns we managed to unlock weren't as fun to play with as the starting weapon, and the shotgun in particular felt worthless against half the foes. The game was more stick than carrot.

Tape to Tape has been in our rotation since its release. It's one of those that's been in beta since I can remember but the devs have kept tweaking the game. It's a roguelike arcade hockey game with tons of abilities, players, and upgrades. The path branches, the teams you play aren't always the same, and the difficulty scales well. This one will likely stay in the rotation for a long time.

Played some cornhole and watched fireworks and soccer with friends in a small town an hour outside of Houston. Good times!
