Title: Pokémon Pokopia
Post by: BLUEVOODU on March 10, 2026, 12:53:51 PM
Has anyone checked out Pokémon Pokopia for the Nintendo Switch 2?  This is a new installation that is something like Animal Crossing (not exactly... but like it).  It looks interesting and different than other Pokémon games.  So far, reviews seems to be good except there are mixed reviews on Amazon.

Features Per Amazon and Nintendo's site:

@Mai Valentine @targetrasp @Kinikko  --> Maybe you have some thoughts on this game.

Outside of expense (though that does factor into a decision), does this game interest you?  Thoughts, comments?  Post it up!

I'll buy a pokemon game when they try something new or if its a really well loved version, and usually I'm not a fan. I've yet to pick up a switch 2 and may not, or at least for a while. I've not seen a lot I really care to play.

you know, there are decent titles launched for the Nintendo Switch 2 @targetrasp.  I find myself not wanting to buy them right now and technically only have 2 Nintendo Switch 2 games so far. The vast Majority are Nintendo Switch 1 games.  Part of that is due to backlog.  For example, Donkey Kong Bonanza (https://www.chickendinnergaming.com/forum/nintendo-switch-2-switch-3ds-and-wii-u/donkey-kong-bananza-first-impressions/) is a pretty fun game... I've played it.  However, do I want to buy it right now?  No because of backlog and also price.

Pokémon Pokopia --> seems like a pretty great game.  It's a cool concept, but for $70?  I don't know at this time.

@Kinikko @Mai Valentine  --> do you have any thoughts?  Maybe @retro junkie has a few thoughts as well since he is a fan of Animal Crossing!

My Daughter and I looked into the Pokopia game, but it is not available for the Switch. It is a Switch 2 exclusive. They are making it that way on purpose because they are wanting to motivate you to get a Switch 2. I think they are going out on a limb making some drastic changes to a franchise that has been their bread and butter. It is also a Key-Card download. Or it was when we were interested. That alone killed any interest we had. (cough)I am retired, fixed income.(cough) $70 for a game? The cost of admission alone just to play that one game? Or any other $70 Switch game? I don't see myself with a Switch 2 anytime in the near future. I'd rather focus on my Evercade vs-r.

With that being said. The game looks interesting to me. It would be interesting to see the response from the pokemon fan community. My Daughter did not like the abandonment of the 3/4 view of a standard pokemon game.

The game seems to be digging a little deeper into RPG elements mixed with Animal Crossing and a few other games. I would like to see how they make all of this work together.

I desperately want this game but I do not have a Switch 2. I plan on getting both the system and Pokopia once I finish paying off a medical bill.

For now I am living vicariously by watching my favorite streamers play it. The gameplay loop looks like a lot of fun, and it has a surprising amount of Pokemon.

If you want to see how it plays, I have two main recommendations; if you want to watch someone who has never liked "cozy" games and is newish to Pokemon, check out Jahara Jayde. If you want to watch a long time Pokemon fan, Shenpai or Vulpixie have fun videos.
