I think I've suffered from assuming bloggers talking about what type of monitor they prefer knew what they were talking about when it came to resolution and aspect ration. I also think marketing makes the pure technical definition muddy...

I grabbed this off of some wiki site:

720p = 1280 x 720 - is usually known as HD or "HD Ready" resolution
1080p = 1920 x 1080 - is usually known as FHD or "Full HD" resolution
1440p = 2560 x 1440 - commonly known as QHD or Quad HD resolution, and typically seen on gaming monitors and on high-end smartphones. 1440p is four times the resolution of 720p HD or "HD ready".
2160p = 3840 x 2160 - commonly known as 4K, UHD or Ultra HD resolution. It's a very large display resolution and it's found on high-end TVs and monitors. 2160p is called 4K because it offers four times the pixels of 1080p FHD or "Full HD".
4320p = 7680 x 4320 - is known as 8K and it offers 16 times more pixels than the regular 1080p FHD or "Full HD" resolution.

The above is only in 16x9 aspect ration correct? 4k isn't the vertical pixels (not even sure how i'd got that notion in my head), its 4 times the total pixels of full HD (8 million ish).. So theoretically 4k can be offered in any aspect ratio including whatever aspect ration people are calling ultrawide.

3840 x 1600 is an ultrawide aspect ration but resolution wise is a little more than 6 million pixels, i've seen LG call this UHD, but not slap the 4k sticker on it...

I think the nomenclature gets muddy here, at least for me.

I've heard people talk about 4k, ultrawide, and 4k ultrawide... and I don't know how you get 4k ultrawide

To me :

4k = 4096 x 2160
ultrawide 3440 x 1440

4k ultrawide = ?

So for the purpose of this discussion I'm going to assume the first two resolutions..

I'd assume 4k would dominate gaming, even moving forward. With 4K blueray and consoles and television manufacturers going that route now, why would devs deviate? More and more gaming PCs are being played on the living room television (thanks vr), I don't imagine computer games rushing off to a different resolution.

ultrawide has a great advantage in business computing. More screen realestate for multiple apps up and less demand on graphics card, not to mention no pesky beezle when computer to a multiple monitor scenerio. I use two monitors at work and three monitors at home and it limits me to how i can size the applications i have open. I can't span something inbetween two monitors.

Logitech M317 (or any of those cheap Logitech series) for everything but gaming. It's ambidexderous, wireless and doesn't take up much real estate. Razer death adder makes a nice left handed mouse, that I'll plug in for anything that requires precision.

That may be useful... I've not been able to break t4-t6 with my leveled characters

I took the switch out when I knew I was going to be sitting in an office waiting and the stupid thing seemed too big for mobile gaming but too small to play Zelda Breath of the Wild... I don't know about this thing being the next evolution in handheld gaming

Its been a while since I've really worried about leveling... How does one power level a season character

Nice to have you back

I caught a killer sale before Christmas and got an Omen with a HP Mixed Reality Headset. While the Vive and the Rift have more game options and a little better tracking, this thing makes a great entry level set. Its easy to connect, it works well with steam, and doesn't require a ton of usb connections. 1 hdmi and 1 usb connection and you're good to go. There's also no need to put sensors all over the play area, like with the other guys.

I am currently sending this back to HP to have fixed, my kid used it so much he wore out the connector coming from the headset. It's nice that it unplugs for storage but it seems like since the headset is essentially tethered by this cord it would have been more prudent to have it built into the headset with tons of stress relief. Instead, there's a short cord coming from the headset with a female end. The male end that plugs here is pretty secure but from just 5 months of use you can see a fair amount of wear. Finally, and the reason I'm having it sent back, the female end is a little bigger, causing movement and a disconnect from the computer. In my case, the wear was so great the movement actually bent two of the pins on the inside of the female connector. I had a heckuva time explaining this to the HP guy on the phone, but finally convinced him it wasn't the cord from the computer that was the problem.

We'll see if they fix it, or try to screw me on warranty (there's a 1 year warranty on the headset, that doesn't cover "abuse"). Hopefully, all will go well. if not, I'll have an excuse to go VIVE, although since this is used in the living room i'd hate to add a bunch of sensors all over the place.

The S7's and back have a different cable than the 8's forward.
#1005
not to mention the charging cable is different on the 8's and 9's... I really wasn't thrilled having to have a special cable that almost looks like the other 40939530409320 i have laying around but is just a hair different...

Playing through the campaign is pretty fun. Halo CE came out when I only had a ps2, so it got skipped. There's a decent story behind the campaign if you don't skip through it.

I just picked up both the MC Collection and Halo 5. I'm installing everything on the XBONE and will be messing around with it tonight if anyone wants to join me.

My son loves this. He was showing it to my via YouTube.

I'd assumed Mario 64 was already remade in HD, but alas, all there is is Super Mario 64 DS from 14 years ago
#1010
looks like there's a planned update that'll bring the master chief collection to utilize xboxonex's 4k and hdr capabilities as well as upgrade matchmaking.

i'll likely pick up this collection now, as well as halo 5, if for nothing else just to get caught up.

I loved the early blackberries. If you ever got in trouble you could bash someone's head in, use it as a wheel chock for a semi, prop open security doors, anchor a boat, and level a wobbley table.

I've had several - they were the first phone aimed at business after all, but I found them to be clunky and just a poor experience overall. Either the first or the second generation one I actually managed to let slip out of my pocket as I was driving a fork lift, run it over, and it still worked. That thing looked like I used it as a hammer more than a phone by the time I retired it. The next version I had was smaller and had a really cool track-ball, that only worked for about 3 months. I sent it off, had it fixed, but the track ball skipped a lot. The packed in alleyway clone wasn't playable afterwards.

I'd much rather have a business centric phone, so I really tried to love blackberry. Can they come back from their previous goofs? Who knows, I think it's 50/50 between the blackberry being a success or the Fire Phone 2 coming out!

I've got at S8 as well. I'm not in love with it by any means. I think Samsung adds too much of an overlay to android to even call it android.

Apples are too finicky for me. At least once a month a coworker or family member is coming up to me with a "my speaker doesn't work" or "the phone repeats every word" or "my battery isn't charging like it used to" or "I can't get on your guest network"

They're all simple fixes and ios is probably one of the easier user interfaces out there, I just can't pay $1,000 for a new phone... although brand new the s8 wasn't much cheaper...

34 years ago there was a dojo on every corner, in every strip mall... today there's 1 / 100,000 people (not including ymca)!

This could rejuvenate karate, someone could finally develop Kung Fu 2, AND give us another Jackie Chan movie....

Nah it's on YouTube Red... BUT it looks dang cool!

pick a handful of rare titles, add a handful of Mario titles, add three more games and BAM n64 classic...

I most defiantly have all the Mario cartoons on dvd!

I've had that same thought. Is it really fun? I don't know that I've really given a pokemon game a fair chance.
