I have played a TON of Doom and Doom II over the years. It really was my game of choice back in the 90s. Around 1995, there was this service called Dwango. It was like a BBS service, you paid for Long Distance phone charges (yes, before high speed Internet), and you played Death matches over this service! Doom II was designed for 4 player LAN play and you could play 4 player matches over this service.
The computers back then were Pentium 90s, 16MB ram and at that time, I had a 14.4 modem. Honestly... unless someone had a super nerfed computer, the game ran extremely smooth and consistent that way. There were hiccups here and there, especially if someone picked up the phone and disrupted the modem LOL :))
Either way, this was a very awesome time indeed. Dwango also created their own maps you could download. The best one was Dwango5 ... and there was map18 where it played a midi 2unlimited no limits song, was an arena... and it was an intense battle. For me, this is probably in my top 3 gaming moments in my life. If you gib someone with the rocket, there are 2 sounds. 1 of them is Jim Carey saying "alllllrrriiigghtty then." LOL... :great:
In this same Dwango5.wad, there are other awesome midi songs from groups such as Nine Inch Nails and more on different levels.
