Title: Holiday Marathon!!! TG16 & PCE
Post by: retro junkie on December 23, 2025, 02:35:35 PM
I did a mini gaming marathon this morning. Using the Turbo Grafx 16 mini and the Retron GX. Started with Lords of Thunder. The rule for the marathon is....don't let them see you cry...

Then jumped into Darius.....

finally Down Load.....and got burned.....

it has been a day of humiliation. But it has been a while so I did deserve everything I got. It was still fun. I did play Victory Run in there somewhere too. But I have realized that I am going to need to get back into some of these Shmups before a marathon feels more like a victory. It is interesting that the day I was testing games on the Retron GX that I really had my game on. Everything was hitting just right and I didn't want to stop and go to the next game.

Nice!!  How was Super Darius?

Lords of Thunder and Super Star Soldier are awesome!  Great games.  I really dig Gates of Thunder... that was one of my favorites.  As far as Paranoia and Son Son... I've never heard of those games.  How are they?

Super Darius is the arcade game. I like the Darius series. If you have played one then you understand. To me this one is arcade hard.

Paranoia is an acid trip. It is a really freaky odd distorted bug type enemies, sort-of flying eyeball stuff, shmup. Different weapons pick-up. I want to say that there are some influences of Gradius but that does not even fully explain.....Salamander maybe..... It is hard to explain. I love it. I used to play it all the time years ago. But when you put something like this aside, you lose that edge of experience. Back to square one.

Gate of Thunder is my favorite on the TG16 CD games. I was greatly disappointed that it was not included on the TG16 mini. I was expecting that more than Lords of Thunder.

Son Son is a platform game. Your character has a weapon, like a stick. I guess it is a rod or martial arts pole. You can be hit several times then you dead and game over. Hit by one too many drops of water, you're dead. You pick up fruit and stuff hidden on objects that you smash, adds to your score. It is a fun little platform.

The one thing I love about the retron GX is I can mix and match the TG16 and PCE games using one system.
