I did a thing... I quickly created a U.N. Squadron / Area 88 Fan site lol.  You must hit the play music button:
https://www.unsquadron.com

This is by far one of my favorite Shmups ever made (probably favorite).  I don't know why... but the moment I played UN Squadron on the Super Nintendo, I was HOOKED.   Beyond Hooked... I couldn't put the game down.  I've not had that same hook with most other Shmups even though that is one of my favorite gaming genres.

The levels, the music, the gameplay... and even the aircraft were all awesome.  The level design was great, the challenge was fun... The end levels are just brutal but still are a draw.  The game seemed balanced.  It wasn't necessarily a bullet hell game.  One thing I don't understand is, why haven't they made a sequel?

Area 88 also known as U.N. Squadron - we really need a sequel.  I'd take a modern sequel as well!  :great:

If you have the chance, check out this full run of U.N. Squadron on Gamer Difficulty - it's pretty awesome:

What are your thoughts on this game?  Dig it?  I know @MegaDrive20XX @targetrasp and @retro junkie are game! lol  :))

Thoughts, comments... post it up!

I remember playing UN Squadron and I still have it. But there was several other games that I felt the same way about them as you do with UN. My time was spent on,
Gradius III
R-Type
Space Mega Force
Darius Twin
Axelay
I spent all my game time on these games. I am thinking that these games was the main reason I never finished Super Mario World. Gradius was the first one I got with the SNES, then R-Type followed. Other shooters came later including Star Fox, but these games hooked me. These games shaped my love for the genre.

@retro junkie - I hear you... there are many great games on your list as well.  Gradius III, R-Type and Darius Twin were all on my highly played list back in the day.  Those were superb games... and then Star Fox REALLY got my attention.

For some reason, U.N. Squadron just caught me the most.  And not the arcade version... I played the arcade version of U.N. Squadron and just couldn't get around it.  The feel, the graphics and other things just didn't feel right.  The Super Nintendo version of U.N. Squadron / Area 88 absolutely blew everything out of the water.

Did you have a chance to check out the site?  Curious what you think lol.  It was a quick thing.  It will also be updated with additional graphics in the near future and a few other updates.  I might do this single page or smaller site concept with a few other domains I have as well.
