@Grindspine I added more items to my wishlist.  Specifically on sale right now, I'm looking at:

Whisker Squadron: Survivor
Terminal Velocity: Boosted Edition
Earthion

Too many games in my backlog to list LOL.   All 3 of those are Steam Deck Playable.  Whisker and Earthion are Verified and Terminal is playable.  I like the idea of being able to play Terminal Velocity on the Steam Deck LOL  :great:   Pretty pumped for that  :happydance:

Which games are you going for?

I don't recall enjoying this game.

I found it at a time where I'd just trudged through Shining Force 3, Dragon Force, Disgaea 2, and tactics ogre so in fairness I may have just been burned out on the genre.

People who enjoy tactics games have raved about it and IGN usually has it at the top of its lists so it's probably a great game and I'm sure I'll get around to playing it one day, although now I really want to break out Shinning Force.

I've really dialed back the spending on game nostalgia, but this is a must have for me. It'll likely get encased in acrylic and never be used but it'll look pretty on a shelf.

I'm passing. Seems like people were correct in predicting that Galaxy 2 would be sold later when Nintendo didn't include it in the 3D All-Stars package.

And I believe that 3D All-Stars will have the inferior version of Galaxy 1. Nintendo won't upgrade it to the new version.

If I do change my mind to get it, I'll probably get a used copy for cheaper.

$100 and you don't even get the controller? How can Nintendo make bluetooth replicas of previous gen consoles but not for the Virtual Boy?

It's super neat, and I do agree it's cool, but I'm going to have to pass unless I can get one for a cheaper price. I'm also not paying $20 for cardboard.

Any games have you all excited this season? I have few games on my wish list and many on my backlog at the moment.

I already have the Final Fantasy VII / VIII Switch version that I need to beat, although the FFVII remake looks pretty inviting.

I have played that first Mario game maybe once or twice and it wasn't at an arcade. I had a family before I got into my first Mario game which was Super Mario World. That was the good ole days when they gave a pack-in. My first game console was the Sega Genesis. The Commodore 64 don't count.

I have a slightly different experience at the arcades than, I think, everybody on this forum.  :))

I remember pinball machines lined up. There was the pitch the ball into the basket, pitch the ball into the hole sort of stuff.

And I remember the driving game. It seems that it was sort-of like pole position. The screen was lit up by a light bulb in the back. You had a steering wheel to control your car, which you could see the shadow of the stick that the car was attached to. You had a pedal for the speed. You simply had the movement of left to right. Cars would pass by in a definite pattern. When you hit a car, there was this violent heavy bump, intense vibration, you could feel in the steering wheel. Something actually hit something inside that stand-up. Enough to make it feel like you actually hit something. It was all mechanical. On screen you could see the projection of ground, road, and other cars moving that gave you a "feel" that you were going forward.

I remember the time it got a video game, it was pong. You could not play it by yourself, you needed someone like a friend or some stranger that was there in the arcade.

Pinball dominated before the era of the video game cabinets. I saw the change. By the time that video game cabinets became the dominating force, I had a job and was living in my apartment, still single. Shmups was first before the fighters in my local arcade.

General Discussion / 40 years of Super Mario Bros
Last post by BLUEVOODU - October 01, 2025, 08:29:11 AM
2025 marks 40 years of Super Mario Bros.   Holy crap. Where did the time go?

I don't know about many others, but I had the pleasure of playing Super Mario Bros for the 1st time in the arcade. I post up on this in the What was your 1st Arcade Experience? topic in Arcade

The following Mario website is really hammering into the 40 years of SMB:
https://mario.nintendo.com/

There also a Super Mario Galaxy movie coming April 2026 - this is in collaboration with Illumination. Im a fan of several Illumination movies.

What are your best Super Mario Bros memories and stories?

Post it up!

Personally, if I were to get an alternative, I would still want it to run SteamOS and not Windows. I'm glad there are more of them coming to market and Valve working to make it compatible with other handhelds.

It's all a compromise though. Those alternatives might have better specs, but battery might be worse, or they run Windows, or they're so big they probably shouldn't be described as a handheld. It's nice that there's more choice though.
