General Discussion / Re: Thinking of breaking board...

If we're going to have individual console forums, like in the Nintendo example, then we probably don't need a "Retro" forum. Having a Retro forum seems like it would also add work because if a console becomes retro then the site has to be adjusted to reflect that. Seems a little unnecessary.

Any one-off consoles can go in a miscellaneous section.

General Discussion / Re: Nintendo's New Patients?
Last post by CreepinDeth - September 24, 2025, 11:08:21 PM
Quote from: retro junkie on September 20, 2025, 10:51:33 AMI also feel that Nintendo has lost their way, not the same company that they used to be.

Honestly, the more I think about it, the more I feel they've always been this way. The reason it's finally being shown who they are is because they have huge success with Switch and now Switch 2.

Over the decades Nintendo has been humbled just as often as they have been successful.

  • The Virtual Boy
  • the PlayStation debuting and outselling them after they decided to go with Philips for a CD attachment (Nintendo thought Sony was getting too much money from each CD sold)
  • the GameCube sales (even though it's a great system)
  • the Wii U

These are many different times where Nintendo had to take a step back and rethink their strategy (there are also more controversies that I can't remember.) Now that the Switch and Switch 2 are back-to-back successes, they are showing their over-protectiveness that they've always had. They just couldn't enforce it like they wanted to because a flop would disrupt them and take up their attention. When Nintendo is at the top, this is who I believe they are.

It appears they are launching Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2 single pack for Nintendo Switch.  Both games are included.   This is a pretty cool package, however, the price is going to be $70.

If you already have the Super Mario 3D All-Stars for the Nintendo Switch, then you already have Super Mario Galaxy on the Switch. The Super Mario 3D All-Stars is going to run you a lot of money these days, so if you do not have it, the Super Mario Galaxy 1 an 2 collection will be the best way to go.

It's cool they're releasing this... and they know people are going to pay.  I'm going to hold off, but I'm sure enough people are going to tell Nintendo to shut up and take their money lol  ???   ;D   I'm also wondering if this will become a rare gem... somewhat like Super Mario 3D All-Stars at this time.

This game comes out on October 2nd... here is our Amazon affiliate link:

Necro bumping this topic.  Has anyone checked this out or played it?  It's been a very fun card game... or at least one that I have thoroughly enjoyed.

@retro junkie --> You have no issues from your Mac texting to the group messages where there are Android users?  The laptops don't have WWAN chips (cellular chips with an esim or sim).  My iPhone does just fine... but MacBook... no go since the connection goes over WiFi.

Hm... you know what... I think text message forwarding got turned off... confirmed.  ???

@BLUEVOODU
I have not encountered an issue between the two phone ecosystems. I am part of an Senior Adult Sunday School class. I keep everybody in a community chat through my iPhone messages. iphones show up in that as blue, android shows up as green. I have no trouble with sending and receiving. And my iPhone messages connects seamlessly with my Mac mini. Twenty seems to be the limit of phone numbers that can connect with a mass texting on messages.

Retro Gaming and Hardware / Re: Neo Geo CD - do you still ...
Last post by retro junkie - September 24, 2025, 02:42:04 PM
@BLUEVOODU mine is still hooked and ready. Haven't played it much this year. This is one gaming system that is full of fighting games and that is the main reason anyone would want one. The big issue with a Neo Geo arcade game, walk away from it for a while then come back to play. You easily forget that you had to work your way up to winning those fights. You get plummeted with your tail handed to you in a ziplock baggy.

As with any of these old CD based gaming systems, if it fails, I will dump the games on eBay. At least with the older cart base gaming systems there are those cheap Chinese clone systems to lean on. But with something like the Evercade there is hope. It might cost me an arm and a leg before it is over with but there is a good decent load of Neo Geo games coming to that console.

This is not a fair question.

Believe it or not my most played game has been Bust-A-Move arcade edition.  :happydance:

Honorable mentions would go to, Last Blade 2, Fatal Fury Special, and Samurai Shodown 2. I would not be able to decide between those three, tied.  :-\

PC Gaming and Platform / Metal Slug Steam Achievement -...
Last post by BLUEVOODU - September 24, 2025, 12:08:22 PM
I didn't notice that I missed the achievement "Metal Slug Attack" in Metal Slug on Steam.  As of writing this message, it is a 6.9% of players completed achievement.  I just got the achievement.

Essentially, you just need to defeat a boss with the Metal Slug Attack.  This is the attack where you send the metal slug flying in front of you and explodes on whatever it hits.  You can do this attack with your Fire and Jump button, hitting them at the same time.   It's a pretty easy attack, timing it to kill a boss is not always the easiest.

The easiest way is to do the 1st stage on easy.   Your mileage may vary... but get the metal slug, keep it and ensure you pick up the extra bombs on the way hidden in crates and with POWs that you rescue.   When you get to the boss, hit the boss with about 8-10 Cannon shots (bomb button).  For the 1st boss on easy, I used 10 shots.   I dodged the next 2 attacks (ducked and jumped)... and then performed the Metal Slug attack slamming the metal slug into the boss.

It worked, achievement received... and this is a pretty easy way to do it.

Here is a good guide and video to show how it's done as well.
